Just discovered this place a week ago and I’ve already gone twice for AYCE. Probably not good for my health but so delicious… Protip: If you’re tryna do all you can eat, definitely come for lunch(weekday or weekend). At $ 18.99/person it’s an amazing deal, and unlike some of the other AYCE sushi places in Boston it includes sashimi and specialty rolls at no additional cost. For reference, dinner prices jump to about $ 31/person. There’s also tons of sides available(gyoza, udon/ramen, fried rice, tempura, etc) if you want to switch it up a bit, but don’t get too distracted! Gotta properly allocate that precious stomach space. All in all, high quality sushi and a great variety of specialty rolls for a great price. 5 stars.

After they did the reorganization — this place is AWESOME… The Oysters and Clams are very very fresh, sweet and clean. There’s now a roast carving station and a soup station — very nice. For $ 30.00 you can’t beat it — All you can eat sushi and seafood — yummy :) :)

I was so excited to learn that this kind of restaurant opened in the Boston area. I am used to be a fan of Minado. This one is a little different from Minado but very similar concept, except they’re serve different Japanese dishes. First of all, I like their decoration, cozy, elegant and relaxing. I also like the fact, there are partial serve yourself and partial foods for made to order. The made to order gives the customers enjoy the foods to eat freshness. However, I was disappointed even after when I have been said, the sashimi aren’t fresh and the oyster that been sitting on the buffet counter aren’t fresh. That kind of throwing off my appetite. The waitress who served us aren’t that friendly, no smile, quite rough on us. I’m not sure if I will coming back again. I might give this place another chance. The price is pretty reasonable for the area.

The all you can eat sushi is the biggest draw to the place and the presentation of the sushi is well done. Now you’re wondering why I only gave it 3 stars right? 1– they screwed up my reservation and we had to wait 30 minutes to get reseated. 2– everything else they served was atrocious, unsanitary and did not meet serving standards. I’m actually sick right now after eating an oyster they had out at the salad bar.

AYCE restaurants in the US usually disappoint me and the ones in fine hotels are always very expensive. I went to Takusan, a Japanese AYCE restaurant, with a group earlier this week. In short, I was pleasantly surprised by Takusan’s quality, variety and quantity. The food is actually quite gourmet for a AYCE place. I was told this place has been around for a while but it’s now run by new mgmt. Customers order off a menu that has both cold and hot selections. There is a raw bar with clams, oysters, shrimps, appetizers etc. A carving station serves steak, bbq, soups etc. It’s $ 31 pp. I saw most people there ordering over $ 100 worth of food each. Imported beers at $ 5 each are reasonably priced. This place either doesn’t have a time limit or it’s not enforcing it.

$ 27 all you can eat, can’t beat it. The only thing I didn’t like was the prime rib, almost taste like a gum. Service, food n the atmosphere was all good! Hopefully they can keep up with the quality.

This place is back to being a sushi favorite now that they’ve reorganized. Delicious, fresh, and visually appealing sushi; and it’s all you can eat. Can’t beat that! The only thing they didn’t have was green tea ice cream to finish off the meal, but that’s ok.

Under new ownership since December. I was a previous customer, so I returned to see how the new management was doing. In short, if I could give 6 stars I would. I am a Sushi addict, and have eaten it far and wide(spanning the likes of Nobu in NYC to the far reaches of Asia). All parts of my dining experience were excellent: — Service was attentive and friendly — The excellent raw bar included VERYFRESH Oysters, Clams, shrimp, and crab legs — The presentation/arrangement of our sushi order was professionally and artfully done, way beyond what I would have expected in a «buffet» restaurant. Actually, it was done better than many of the non-buffet restaurants that I’ve been to(I posted 2 pictures of our order). — Most importantly, the Sushi was fresh, tender, cut in generous proportions, and DELICIOUS. I can’t overstate how good it was. As good(and better) that many other Sushi Restaurants that I’ve been to over the years(and there have been MANY). — They even had a carving table with some VERYTASTY beef, hand carved to order. While I barely had room to try it, it looked(and tasted) so good I managed to eat 1 slice. — The atmosphere is a comfortable combination of casual with a «dressy» atmosphere. You will feel comfortable coming casual/neat, but the atmosphere is also upscale enough that you won’t feel out of place dressing up and coming for an important date. In short, if you hunger for tasty, fresh Sushi and Seafood, you can’t go wrong here. The fixed dinner price of about $ 30 is a tremendous bargain for food of this quality. Lunch has a more limited selection without raw bar, but is still a bargain at about $ 18. They also have a good selection of Sake and imported beers. Again, 6 Stars(if I could give that many) for very high quality Sushi, friendly/attentive staff, all at a bargain price.

Almost didn’t go after reading some of the review but decided to give it a try. So glad we did. The quality was so fresh. Oysters shucked right in front of us, sushi and sashimi made to order, unlimited shrimp cocktail, crab legs etc. Pleasant attentive wait staff, Hostess very pleasant and all and all a great evening. We could order as much as we want and hot food came out hot and fresh sushi and sashimi ultra fresh. We probably tried some of every section on the menu and everything was really good. New ownership has been there for about 2 months and from what I’ve heard it is better then ever. Can’t wait to go back.

Very delicious, me and my friends ordered the teriyaki steak, fried chicken wings, miso soup, absconding salad and the sushi sampler plate. It was good but be careful not to order too much !! You have to pay for each sushi roll you don’t eat.

They charge you for what you don’t eat. I came here with a massive group and we were being way too ambitious with what we ordered. Bad idea.(Sometimes better to come with not such a big group and not to come crazy hungry because otherwise you will have to be forced to eat it all!). Thankfully the waitress knew that we had ordered way more than we thought we could eat, so she stopped our orders. Sushi and sashimi aren’t bad, I haven’t been here for awhile though. I like the spicy bonchon wings! Those are pretty good.

Sadly, I’m growing out of the stuff-yourself-silly, all-you-can-eat stage of my life, but for Takusan’s dinner AYCE, I’ll make an exception. The current dinner AYCE price is $ 25.95(M-Th) and $ 28.95(F-Su, Holidays). Which is SO worthwhile because it includes a raw bar featuring oysters, clams, and crab legs, as well as a wide selection of sushi and sashimi, including my favorite: uni(sea urchin). *Happy sigh* I love that I don’t feel like I have to eat until it hurts to stand up in order to make it worthwhile. but sometimes I do anyway because it’s just so good. It’s definitely among the better options(and my current favorite) for AYCE sushi in the greater Boston area. A couple of notes and thoughts from my last few visits: * My top picks: the nigiri and the raw bar * Of the raw bar, my favorite are the crab legs, but they can be inconsistent – some are really salty but others are really great. My boyfriend’s favorite of the raw bar are the cherrystone clams. * The salmon sashimi and the specialty rolls were underwhelming.(The salmon nigiri was better) * The uni sushi(my favorite) has also been a little inconsistent – fresh and flavorful one time and another time just okay. But good enough(and unlimited enough!) to make me want to come back for more! * The«bon chon» style fried chicken was a surprising hit, even though it breaks all the rules of AYCE that my parents have ingrained in me(aka go for the seafood and no fried items) * Lunch is not as worth it, even though it’s about $ 10 less – no raw bar, no uni, no ikura, none of the good stuff that sets Takusan apart.

Came again tonight and it definitely went downhill. They have terrible communication. When we asked if our table was ready, the hostess just said, «No,» with no follow-up. During dinner, I asked if one of the plates was one or two servings, and she replied, «Yes.» We then went up to the raw bar station and asked the guy who was shucking clams if there were any more oysters left, and all he said was«Yes,» and continued shucking the clams without giving us any other update of when he was going to put them out. It ended up that we didn’t even get a single oyster, which is mainly what we came for. We kept looking over at the raw bar, and they never put any out! I feel like it was so deceiving because they don’t offer everything they list! As I said before, the service is slow, but tonight it was excruciatingly slow. We got in at 7 pm, and we didn’t finish our dinner until 9:45 pm! We also didn’t even order that much. They also did not bring out several of the dishes that we checked off. Lastly, they did not offer any real desserts, only strawberry or vanilla ice cream. They got rid of their green tea ice cream. Definitely cheapened out on this considering the other sushi buffet in Brighton offers fried ice cream/fried banana for dessert. P. S.THEIRCATERPILLARROLL100% HADSHRIMPTEMPURAINTHEMIDDLE(WITHAVOCADOANDEELONTHEOUTSIDE). I have never eaten a caterpillar roll with shrimp tempura in it, and they definitely do not list this ingredient on the menu! My friend who has never eaten shellfish before ate one without knowing. Luckily he was not allergic!

I absolutely love this place. I’ve been for lunch. I’ve been for dinner. I’ve taken great friends. I’ve scheduled dinner parties here. I’ve been alone. I’ve never once had a bad experience. It’s about $ 20 for lunch and $ 35 for dinner. Most of my favorites are on the dinner menu, but lunch is still amazing. Here’s how it works. You sit down, you order drinks, and they hand you an order sheet and the menu. You have two hours for ordering whatever you would like. If you’re in a large group, you order a little bit for everyone. If it’s a small group — pick carefully, because you’re charged for anything you don’t eat. That’s fair — would you want someone to order a pile of food and be too full to eat it? That being said, the sushi. I’m not picky. The quality experts will tell you that this place isn’t the best. And I say — who cares? More importantly, it’s really good for the price. Try the Takusan Dragon roll. And the Chicken Yakitori. And the sashimi. And just about everything. I’ve eaten well more here than it would cost me at a similar place charging by the roll. And my friends and I still talk about it fondly. We’ll go back again. Hopefully soon…

This review focuses on the all you can eat(AYCE) sushi for 25.99. I’m always looking for affordable grade B and above sushi and Takusan is a top contender in the boston area. The staff is friendly. They have a raw bar with grade B oysters, shrimp, and crawfish(crawdads are a nice touch but I don’t know how to eat them). Grade B is not a bad thing by the way — I wouldn’t expect grade A(fugakyu) sushi for $ 26AYCE. If like me, you’ve been eating sushi for 30 years and love it, grade B is still awesome, grade C is a bad experience, grade D is hospital or death. The inclusion of Uni on the AYCE menu was a nice surprise. The sizes were typically smaller as is the norm for AYCE. Definitely try the Takusan and Dynamite roll. Please eat here. I need at lest 10 normal sized adults or 15 children to eat here weekly to offset the loss I inflict on their bottom line.

Food: 3.5 Stars Service: 2.5 Stars After trying Yamato Sushi way too many times, we ventured out to Takusan Sushi for their dinner buffet. I thought that the focus on raw bar and having a variety of sashimi was a really unique touch. Unfortunately, given it was a buffet, I don’t think the fish quality was the highest. The rolls, especially the special maki, were decent but didn’t taste that fresh either for some reason. Rice was packed very tightly and flavors from the inside of rolls rarely came out unless there was a lot of sauce lathered on. My favorite of the rolls was either the Caterpillar or the Takusan Dragon roll. Those were the only special maki rolls that I thought were actually passible in terms of the quality I would expect if I went out to a regular sushi restaurant and ordered rolls. The other rolls in general lacked flavor, perhaps due to the overpowering taste of the rice or because the fillings within the rolls weren’t super fresh. I would say the rolls are basically comparable to what you would get at Yamato’s except presentation is a little bit better. Moving on to the raw bar and sashimi. As I mentioned before, it’s a great concept and for those who love raw fish, I think this is probably one of the best deals you can get for a sushi buffet. They had a raw bar with oysters, clams, crab legs, sashimi salads(salmon, tuna and mixed). The oysters were perpetually gone because they only put a few up and people would take them quickly. The sashimi salads were quite good because they had interesting sauces already mixed in. The crab legs were decent as well, but a little too salty(I question whether its fresh in this case) and were on the thinner side. With regard to other types of entrees you can order, I do think they have a pretty good variety. All kinds of terriyaki, korean side dishes, wings, tempura, soups, edamame, the whole gambit. The tempura was really quite decent, I was surprised how fresh and crispy they were. Service was a little bit off-putting(which may be expected since it is a buffet). Every time we were ordering or asking something from the server, it seemed like they were a little bit condescending and not really sure how to answer. Perhaps it was just the specific server we had, but it was not really neutral attitude. It’s ok, we’re not here for the service, we’re here for the buffet!

This is probably one of my favorites places to go when I am craving sushi. Here are my top 3 reasons 1. Raw bar — They have really good crab legs. They keep it very cold and fresh and they usually re-stock pretty fast. What I like the most about the crab legs though is the way they season them. I’m not sure how they cook it but their seasoning really brings out the crab flavor well. They do have oysters and clams as well. The only downside to this is that they have been really holding back on oysters. When they do re-stock, they are gone in seconds. 2. Sushi quality — They have really good sushi quality. You can tell fish is fresh, rice is recently made, and all the other ingredients taste good as well. Try a sashimi piece and you will know what im talking about. very fresh and delicious. 3. Hot food selections — On top of sushi, you have the option of ordering their hot food as well. I haven’t tried many so I can’t really say much but I do love their bonchon wings. No they don’t taste like bonchon but they tried to imitate it as much as they can haha. The only reason why im giving 3 instead of 4 stars is because it is so damn pricey. Before you go to to Yamato or Minado to get your sushi fix, give this place a try first. You are going to end up paying the same amount anyways so might as well go to a place that gives you more variety of options right?

Came here with some friends, there were six of us and we made reservations. We were told they could only hold reservation for 15 mins which seemed fair. There were only a few people in the restaurant, though, when we got there When were arrived we were told there was a two hour max limit. We were a little worried at first since we didn’t know if that would be enough time for us. We were six friends who had not seen each other in quite some time, so there was a lot of catching up to do. The service was good and the food was delicious. We actually ordered so much food that we needed a little break. The two hours came so quickly… the waiter came by and kindly reminded us of our two hour limit. so we hurried and finished everything we ordered. After we left the dining area, we decided to hang out at the bar for a little bit. The bartender was so friendly. We wanted sake and didn’t know which one to get, so she made some very good suggestions. I forget which sake we ended up getting but it was sweet and tasted good, and was a perfect way to finish off our night.

Takusan completely changed their whole menu. Things for lunch and dinner are totally different. It makes it not worth it to go during lunch hours. I came during the weekend for lunch and expected to eat a lot of sashimi and sushi, but they restricted the menu so that there are limited options for lunch. I don’t like it when restaurants become greedy. It is bad business. It affects the trust that they have built with customers initially. Especially, when they load a ton of rice to get you full, this makes me very upset. I don’t mind paying for a nice meal, but I don’t like it when I feel ripped off. They still have appetizers that was in the old menu, but for certain salads, sashimi, and certain rolls, they are only available during dinner. One thing that was very disappointing was that I ordered a crazy maki and it was loaded with rice. Parts of the roll only had shrimp tempura batter, no shrimp, couple strips of cucumber and a ton of rice. For $ 20-$ 25 for lunch, I could have dined at another restaurant and be satisfied and happy.
