Boston Bhangra/South Asian Nation offers a nearly-weekly class at the Brookline Ballet School for around 10 bucks a pop. When they have it, it’s at 1:30 p.m. on Sundays.(Get on the mailing list to get notification of whether class is on or not each week, if you’re interested.) The class is about 90 minutes long and is a great workout taught by a male teacher whose name I’m forgetting. He’s a good teacher – fast, but easy to follow and very direct. The classes themselves are a great workout – I was a sweaty mess by the end of each one! – and are taught in a pretty, sunny front studio at the Ballet School. I went to three classes over the course of 3 – 4 months, and the routine taught in each of them was exactly the same with really no variations between classes. Hence, if you’re an experienced dancer looking to learn a broad repertoire of bhangra moves, this won’t meet your needs. But if you just want a great workout to that addictive bhangra beat, this is a good option. Be warned: the dance is done without shoes, so you may end up with slightly sore/blistered feets the first time or two you take this class. IT’S WORTHIT.
