Nice little park. Redwoods are not as spectacular as the California State Parks across the border, but a worthy way to spend a few hours should you have some time in Brookings. Bonus point for allowing dogs in the redwoods, unlike California!

Yet another gem in this beautiful area… From the crystal clear lake to the beautiful trails, it was love at first sight. Just an absolutely beautiful place to picnic, hike, raft, fish or camp. Jaw dropping gorgeous.

We stayed at the cabins at Alfred A. Loeb State Park for one night as part of our trip to the redwood forest. The cabins have three beds and a table, which makes it a good space for families. There are spaces throughout the park for tents and RVs, but the cabins in particular are right next to the beautiful Chetco River. The park hosts by the cabins were friendly and attentive. The park also includes a ¾ mile river trail that connects with a 1 mile loop throughout the redwood forest. The redwood hike can get a bit steep at times, but otherwise, the trails were relatively easy. We were able to complete both and make it back to the park in under 2 hours, and we were walking at a leisurely pace. We would definitely stay at this park again in the future!

If you could imagine the finest little hike, with lush forests, gentle slopes, the sound of a rushing river and happy birds, temperate climate, foot bridges, trickling waterfalls, giant redwoods, shade and dappled sun, then you would be imaging the river trail at Loeb State Park. We do a lot of hiking at home and are used to hot, dry, steep trails. Né’er a fern or moss in sight. This, to me, was the quintessential hike, just as you’d dream it to be. We only made it from the picnic area to the first foot bridge on the Redwood Nature Trail(we had a 12-year old standard poodle with us and not enough water, she drank it all). Between this trail and the Hungry Clam, I can’t wait to get back to Brookings!
