We came here last weekend for some snacks and a drink and I was satisfied with the experience. There was one girl tending the bar, but when we came in, she came out to our table, took orders and gave menus. The bar manager is also the cook, so when we ordered our snacks, he disappeared to go make them. Beer list is OK, not massive, bar food is typical fare, but they did a good job making it. We got the mozz sticks and pretzel sticks with cheddar dipping sauce. The mozz sticks were piping hot through and through, but not over cooked. The pretzel sticks were also hot and fresh tasting. I see people like the other food available, so I’d want to try more of a meal next time! I ordered a vodka soda(with well vodka), and was charged $ 4.50 for that. My pint of summer shandy was $ 5. All in all, I was definitely impressed with the prices! The bar tender and manager checked on us an appropriate amount of times and we were able to get our check and leave when we were ready to do so. All in all, a good first experience. I want to reserve the 4 star for when I try a little more of the menu!

Disappointing. We ordered to go and will not be back. First, two of the three things we wanted to order off the menu posted on their website they don’t have anymore. Okay… we’re not off to a great start. Ordered two burgers, an order of chicken fingers, chili fries, and onion rings. Total come to $ 40+. Other restaurants in the area are priced around the same although it is a bit on the pricey side. We don’t mind paying more for quality but we got anything but that here. Chicken fingers were burnt, onion rings also burnt. The burgers were just ok, saved by the toppings(the grand slam). The one good thing was the chili fries but there are plenty of other options in the area that do them better. This was bad diner food with gourmet prices.

Great place to watch a game. I had a big table of guys for game 7 of the NHL western conference final and I cannot say enough about how awesome the service was. Our server kept the bucket ‘o beers filled and chilled. She took separate food orders at separate times. Food was delivered pretty quickly. And all during what I’m sure was one of the busiest nights of the year. I would come back in a heart beat… particularly for the game. And, oh by the way, the burgers are great!

Been here twice in the past 6 weeks, Grand Slam burger and a Killians Red. Man, that fried egg on a burger rocks! Deep fried pickles are perfect as well. Four stars because no ones perfect.

Grand Tavern is beginning to grow on me. Food is really good and the improved beer selection is really a plus. Great place to watch sports or throw back a couple cold ones with your friends. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice local hangout that serves up good food and service… Cheers!

Food was great but they need to train their bartenders better. My wife and I stopped in for a late night bite after visiting a relative in the hospital. We order some food, along with a beer and a Guinness. The bartender brings back the drinks with a huge foam head on the Guinness. She poured it wrong. I waited until the foam cleared and asked her if she could fill the glass. You would think I was asking to take money out of her purse! She gives a look like I was stealing from her. I said politely that Guinness was supposed to be poured in two steps. She then says«I know that sir »(So then, she was just lazy in our case???) Despite bartenders who don’t know how to pour the product, the food was absolutely great. My wife had a Hawaiian burger that was amazing. I had a chicken wrap. We would go back again for the food. The manager cooks the food himself and does a great job. I will go for a burger next time too. What’s more rare in the west suburbs? Pandas at the zoo or a bartender who doesn’t know how to pour beer?

Nice bartender and nice looking bar with plenty of gaming machines. The food looked good and just a nice general location for the folks in downtown Brookfield.

Great Place to watch a game, meet friends, or just plain relax. Laid back atmosphere, not too loud or crazy. The food is good, the burger stands up to most. They even have a burger challenge ala Man Vs. Food. Haven’t done it yet, but it is on my bucket list. Great Staff and friendly locals.

We went for Friday night all-you-can-eat fish fry. Service was very slow — our server told us he was the only one serving, and there was only one cook. When fish finally arrived, one of my friends asked if more could be started right away as we were sure to want more. That didn’t seem to matter. Once the server did return to our table, we were told all-you-can-eat fish is indeed just that — no refills on fries(which were cold and not very tasty, but just thought it would be nice to have something other than fish for our second serving). Fish was okay, nothing spectacular. Had to ask three times for sugar for my iced tea. Once I finally got it, it was undrinkable, even with the sugar. Too strong, likely from concentrate, since if it was brewed at that strength it would have been bitter as well. As it was, it was just tasteless. Hope this was just an off night compounded by server issues. Though I doubt we will be returning to check our theory.

Stopped by just to check it out, saw new sign and had heard it reopened. Previous incarnations of this location were atrocious. Attentive service, good burgers, limited draft selections, generic Miller/Coors products but nice bottle selection. Lots of Tvs but sound wasn’t great and bounced between tv, canned music and jukebox. A few bugs but familiar owners, who had owned another bar/grill in town several years ago will work the kinks out I’m certain.

Definitely will go back! We ordered the hot wings, which were pretty good. We also ordered the GT burger and Buffalo Chicken wrap w/fries and potato salad, which were both very good. Great portions! For only the first week, service was ok, could be better and I’m sure it will get there. This place has a lot of potential. Lots of TVs… nice inside!

A new entry into the Brookfield bar scene. After a great preview in the local paper, my wife and I were interested to give this place a shot. Now, know that the day we went was the first day of business for them. So, I promise to update my review in a few weeks. The place is fairly non-descript; a very large bar and lots of tables. TVs abound but there’s no real character to the place. That’s okay. They only have a few beers on tap but lots of bottles. The menu is the standard bar food but very extensive within the sandwich and burger field. The bartenders were friendly and apologetic because they were having computer problems. There were a lot of staff milling around behind the bar and you knew something was wrong. It was kind of comedic and yet one felt sorry for them because they knew they wanted to do well. Three negatives: one, I ordered a second draft beer and the bartender didn’t get me a fresh glass or even rinse out the one I had my first beer in. Second, the TVs must be a mix of cable and satellite because football games were not in sync. A couple of TVs were a few seconds behind the other TVs. This is a big deal to sports fans. Thank God it was the Packers/49ers games so no one really seemed to care but diehard sports people certainly would. Third, and I’ve never seen this before. My wife and I were sitting at the bar, eating wings. One of the guys behind the bar who seemed to be a manager was talking to some patrons to my left. The owner/manager spit into a sink that was under the bar and directly where I was sitting. I was so stunned that I couldn’t speak. Disgusting. After a few minutes I called another bartender over and told her what happened. She was grossed out as well. I will still give the place 3 out of 5 stars because the wings were good, the servers were nice enough, and the menu was extensive. Of the bars in downtown Brookfield, The Sanctuary has the nicest décor but Grand Avenue has the best food. I hope that guy stops spitting though.
