Don’t know what’s happening here, but many of the stylists of leaving. Mary who had been here a number of years has moved to another salon down the road. Jen had returned from Australia, stayed about a month and left for a salon in Queens. And now Cathy is moving to a salon in Tuckahoe, Rua. I’m wondering if perhaps the new owners aren’t treating their staff very well, and that’s going to lead the ruination of Seera’s.

I went for my first cut at Seera’s tonight. I moved to the neighborhood 6 months ago and want to be part of the community. But tonight I learned that I won’t become part of the community through Seera’s. I have long hair that is all one length and I was only looking for a trim, so that seemed pretty safe to try out someplace new. But have you ever had a haircut so bad that you get home, look in the mirror, and immediately burst into tears? That’s how bad this is. I actually had to make an appointment for tomorrow to go see my old stylist in Manhattan and have her fix this mess. The main problem is that my hair is completely uneven from one side to the other. The secondary problem is that she cut all of my very thick hair with one big hack, rather than going in layers like every other stylist I’ve ever seen. The result is that my hair is not only uneven, it’s also got this weird look to it like I just had a haircut where someone was trying very hard to make all the hairs line up exactly. It looks so bad… I have never had such a bad haircut in my life. One other complaint that has less to do with the skills of my particular stylist and more to do with the salon in general… their chairs don’t elevate. So I had to have half of my haircut standing up. This made me feel like I was a horse or a dog, not a person, and it made me feel like everyone was staring at me since I was the only person in the place who was standing. It was so unpleasant that I was already planning on not going back before I really got a good look at how uneven the cut was. My stylist’s name was Marie. Maybe you can get a better haircut with a different stylist, but if you don’t like the idea of having your hair cut while standing up then this probably isn’t the right salon for you either.

I gave it 4 stars because I always liked the way my hair turned out. But… Jennifer, the young woman who was doing my hair for several months decided to move to Australia., I found this out when I called to make an appointment just now. It seems she only saw fit to tell people who actually came in after she decided to leave instead of notifying all the people on her regular customer list. Not everyone comes in every 3 weeks or once a month. She did my color so I know I was in the book as being a customer because they keep record of the colors. Very unprofessional. And the person on the phone when I called seemed to have no problem with this. She seemed to think it was ok that only people who came in were told. That’s not the way it’s done. It makes no difference if it has been a while since I had been in, It should not be *assumed* that I was no longer a customer. It’s better to let people know who perhaps hadn’t planned on coming back than not let people know who wanted to come back. The PROFESSIONAL thing to do is make sure people know.

This is an update on this wonderful salon. I originally took my mom and went back to get my hair cut this time around. I called yesterday requesting a 2 o’clock appointment for today and was told Amanda had an opening. Amanda was awesome! I have been growing out my hair for some time but was getting frustrated and wanted to get a new style while still keeping enough of the length to put it up in a ponytail. I went in with my hair in its natural state(curly) and showed Amanda the styles I was considering. She recommended that those styles would not work well with my hair texture and might be too difficult for me to recreate at home. She gave me some alternate ideas for what would work best and I decided to go with the professionals opinion and boy am I pleased! She did a fabulous job shaping it, cutting out a lot of the excessive weight while keeping most of the length. I love that the stylists here take the time to have a consult with you before they start cutting(Patricia did the same with my mom.) I appreciate having a professional tell me whether what I’m thinking would work or not and then explain why clearly. Amanda took the time to listen to what I wanted and gave me one of the best haircuts I’ve ever had. I was so happy I was sure to schedule my next appointment before I left. BTW, please remember they don’t take credit cards here. It had slipped my mind so I had to stop by the ATM at the corner to take out some cash. They’re reasonably priced starting at $ 45 for a cut and style w/out tip, a bargain for a fabulous cut!

This place is amazing! I just got my haircut and I couldn’t be happier! The people are so nice and welcoming, I was nervous about the type of pixie cut I wanted, but my hairdresser Patricia said it’s perfect for my face and have nothing to worry about and she was right. The wash was amazing too the women took her time and it was relaxing. The total came out to $ 55.00(plus tips) I’ve found my new favorite place!

This is a great place– very unexpected as its tucked away on Katonah and easy to miss if you aren’t looking for it. I am very particular about my hair and actually have avoided getting a haircut for a few months due to having to find a new hairdresser and having previous hair traumas that I never want to relive… I called on Fri and was able to get in Sat with Ashley. She was fantastic! I have long hair & want to keep growing it while keeping a more polished/edgy layered look to it(easy to mess up– ppl tend to want to cut«cutesy» rounded layers which I hate in my hair). Ashley was able to give exactly what I asked for and gave good feedback. Her technique is excellent and well deserving of a tip. $ 50 total for the trim(tip not included) but honestly it’s worth it. I almost gave 4 stars bc the salon is a little cramped for room but thats also kind of a good sign when every chair is full, and I can’t really hold the size of the space against them. FYI– cash/check only, parking on the street but it’s pretty easy– usually spots available in front or on side streets no problem.

Love Seeras. When I go for a cut or color, I want someone to stop and talk to me first. Ask me what I’m looking for. Give me some ideas. Look at my hair and tell me what may or may not work. the staff at Seera’s spend the time with you before they start woking. I recommend Seera’s to everyone I know.

Amazing. Several years ago, after a disappointing $ 300 haircut and color at an overpriced salon in NYC, I desperately asked for a referral from a shop owner in Riverdale whose hair color I admired. She sent me to Kathleen at Seera’s and I’ve never turned back! She is a remarkable colorist. I’ve done all sorts of colors from crazy to muted and I’ve always loved the result. Kathleen is meticulous and always is sure to achieve a result her clients are comfortable with. I’ve referred many friends to Seera’s salon, and I sent my 90-year-old grandmother there to get her hair set before I take her out to lunch. It’s an unassuming place but everyone there works hard to make you comfortable. And, you can’t beat the low prices!
