They do good work here, the staff are very knowledgeable and professional and although I didn’t get the cut that I requested I liked the look. Not sure if I will be returning but I would reccomend this salon to others.

Had a pretty good experience here. I went for a wash and blow out on my natural hair. Reasonably priced. Good customer service and knowledgeable staff. The salon is very pretty and we’ll maintained. I would definitely suggest someone try this place out!

Great costumer service. I just wish they will have more products to use on costumers. They primarily use Miss Jessie and Design Essentials. I hate Miss jessie products. It is packed with mineral oil and petroleum oil which is just grease that sits on your hair, clog your pores, cause itchiness and buildup. This is why I was hesitant to simply go for a trim and this is why I only wanted a trim. I did not want them to style me with any miss jessie product. I washed and got a moisture treatment, blowout and trim. It was $ 55. Remember to go for a consultation first because the prize is different for everybody according to your hair length and so forth. They serve tea, Fruits and other snacks. You will definitely feel comfortable. My hair felt good after my wash and trim. To moisture my hair they used Miss Jessie baby butter which I cringed inside as she applied it to my scalp and hair. I should have said something but I guess I did not because I was not suprise. O well I will wash it out ASAP. My 4c hair does not need that. Overall good trim. Took what needed to be taken off and good costumer service. I have been here 3 times and they are pricey. $ 55 is the lowest I have paid. Next time I will let them know that my hair does not like Miss Jessie.

New beginnings is decent with customer service but I was extremely disappointed with their choice of products and apparent knowledge of good hair care. I came here hoping it would be the good balance between styling and promoting healthy hair. I have a short, relaxed haircut and was happy with the cut and styling on both visits. But every time I left my hair felt dry as ever and each time I had to spend weeks nurturing my hair back to good health. On the first visit I filled out the consultation form and waited for about 2 hours. Had I not stepped out into the part where the stylists work, I probably would have waited longer. I’m not sure what the point of the form is because they didn’t really use it to advise how they treated my hair. I must say the deep conditioning treatment felt good while on my hair, but once it was washed out it was as if they never conditioned at all. When styling my hair, the stylist told me I had a few dry spots in the crown and recommended a product for itchy scalp. My first mistake was buying this product without reading the container. When I got home I realized it was full of mineral oils and petrolatum(which is not good for scalp because it clogs the follicles)!! My entire head was EXTREMELY dry after this visit and I suspected it was the product they used, so for the next visit I took my own conditioners(Naked honey and almond whip) which my hair loves and I have been using for quite a while. When I told the stylist my hair was very dry after my last visit she said«it can’t be our products» suggesting it was something I’m using. I explained to her that her products were the only new things introduced in my hair regimen so obviously those products are causing the problem and don’t work well for me. I asked to use my own conditioner and she insisted that they have a rule against that and since they use the«best products on the market» I have nothing to worry about. After this visit my hair was once again dry as ever and I decided not to go back. Most stylists there were nice, but when it comes to hair knowledge and haircare I was underwhelmed. Firstly, if a client tells you something is not working for their hair, don’t insist it’s something else, listen and accommodate their individual hair needs, rather than pushing the same products on every head of hair. Secondly, they constantly say they have the best products but not once were the benefits of the individual ingredients of each product explained to me. Perhaps they focus on good natural hair care but in my opinion if you want to represent yourself as a stylist who puts healthy hair first, you should be able to know the best products for any type of hair, natural or relaxed. Bottom line: I was unimpressed with their lack of knowledge of good hair care and definitely think there are better products than the ones they use and promote. Good stylists but not good hair care(at least not for relaxed hair). I won’t be going back.

I was a new client and went to the salon for a touch up. They did not carry my regular lye relaxer so I trusted them to use what they had which was a big mistake. I had an allergic reaction to the no-lye relaxer used and experienced scalp sensitivity and tenderness for months after it was applied. A neutralizing chelating shampoo was not used to remove the relaxer leaving my hair riddled with calcium salts and feeling like straw. I experienced extensive breakage thereafter. It took a few months for me to figure out why my hair felt the way it did and how to correct it but by then the damage had already been done. They specialize in natural hair so if your hair is not natural, go elsewhere and fast.

I returned to New Beginnings in late September in preparation for a for a brief trip out of town, 1 month after my first appointment, to have my hair color touched up and my hair ‘curly coiled’ again. I was so pleased to be told that my hair had significantly grew and it wouldn’t be long until I could try longer styles. I’m soooo excited about the length and health of my hair and the fact that I can purchase all the Miss Jessie products I need to maintain my hair until the next visit. I am a Happy Camper!

I do not know how this place ranks. I have only gone in for a consultation and that was short-lived because my hair was previously styled and the stylist needed to be able to actually see all of my hair and let me know her recommendations. There are a couple of things I CAN say about New Beginning. When I first walked in, I was greeted by someone which is something that I am not used to when visiting Bronx salons, A lot of the time, you walk into a neighborhood salon and you find yourself trying to make eye contact with someone, ANYONE, so that you might get some help. It almost feels as if you’re trying to get into an elite club for which you’re not good enough. I did not feel that here. There other thing that stuck out to me in a good way is the fact that they give you a questionnaire for you to fill out whil you wait, asking about your hair history, as well as the products that you use. This shows me that they are serious about treating hair as well as styling it. While I am not new to being natural, I am new to proper maintenance and care for natural hair. I have always relied on easy methods of constantly getting braided or weaved styles. I am ready for a ‘New Beginning’. I am scheduled for a proper appointment tomorrow and will make a more in-depth review of my experience.
