Madison Cafe

I stopped in with my daughter at 12:00 Sunday afternoon. There were 3 empty tables that needed to be cleaned. We waited 20 minutes to be seated while the waitresses served other customers and took orders. We left without being seated.

The biggest problem with this restaurant is that they charge $ 10 for delivery but they dont even bring the food to your door. I had to go downstairs and my building has an elevator with a courtyard entrance so theres no safety excuse. There are plenty of places in the bronx that have free delivery and a $ 5 minimum that have delivered to my door. The menu was ok but there is no category for sides. If i order a cheese burger it comes with fries but i cant order a side of fries. As for the food its more authentic than some of the other mexican food that ive had but its not exactly to die for. Could be better.

Today I ordered a smoothie and it was busy so the manager rushed the order. When I got it I asked if it was made with water, milk or juice. No one could give me an answer so I ask for another one. (I’m lactose intolerant) The staff was making another 1 for me –no problem when I he was about to give it to me to exchange for the 1 I didn’t even touch. the manager yells «$ 5.80». I said excuse me… not being rude nor raising my voice. I would like to change it for the 1 he just made for me. NO! You have one another 1 it would be $ 5.80. I tried explaining he cut me off rude saying what you gonna do with that 1 I said exchange it for the 1 he just made. You can give that to someone, I’m like no sir who am I going to give it to. I paid for the smoothie and another item here is my ticket I paid with a CC. I left with NO REFUND AND NO SMOOTHIE. I tried to call the bank to cancel my order. It’s not about the $ 5.80 clearly… it’s about customer service and not speaking to your customers the way he did… «the customer is always right» clearly HE didn’t get that MEMO. It looked like the staff that did the smoothie was scared to give it to me saying «sorry miss he saying you have to pay». I hope he didn’t get in trouble but I thanked him for his service. I will no longer go to this place!!! Coworkers suggested I throw my smoothie on him or the counter but I am not that kind of person. GOOD RIDDANCE

Love Madison Café. The food is good but the menu could be expanded a little more. I usually order the chicken and broccoli quesadilla. You’ll occasionally find New York’s finest dining here on their lunch break. Which says enough, it’s good food that isn’t expensive and is served hot and fresh. Haven’t had any complaints. Maybe aside from the being placed on hold for 5 minutes each time I call. That can definitely use some improvement

My first time there for a quick bite on a lunch break. In assuming the waitress was new because I’ve been a waitress before and she was just ah-​fumbling, but I cut her a lot of slack and things went okay. The Cajun chicken quesadilla was good too, nice and flavorful, they could’ve diced up the green peppers a little smaller, that would’ve been great. The portion was also gracious for the price, and it’s wholesome food, not fast food, I liked that. Also, this is probably a stretch but if the coffee if going to be cheap tasting, do like IHOP and make it bottomless…

I have only positive things to say about this place not only is the food good but it’s affordable as well and the people there are so nice can’t get enough of this place!!!

I’ve eaten here numerous times and I thought everytime it was good. I’ve had salads from here with extra spice, French fries with eggs, burgers and fruit shakes and all were good. The staff is friendly and very welcoming. I do wish they had more of a selection with different types of chicken, and there mac and cheese tastes like boxed Mac and cheese so I wasn’t thrilled by it.

I used to love this place but little by little they disappointed me, their guacamole is tasteless and it tastes like it has some other mysterious ingredients than avocado or they use low grade avocados and a tiny cup is a $ 1.
I love tostadas but the chicken ones it has dry up breast meat and the beef one has chewy pieces of steak, I rather have the chicken ones with dark meat if they don’t know how to cook a juicy chicken breast or have ground beef if they are going to use the bad cuts of the beef to make the tostadas or all the other dishes they serve with beef or chicken.
What I love about their tostadas is that the crispy part is not mass produced, it seems homemade.
Yesterday my husband bought me two tostadas and when I went to eat my second one I food a hair mixed in with the lettuce and I will never eat there again. I hate giving bad reviews specially for places I love, my husband tells me they use hair nets so I can’t explain how that hair ended up in my tostada.

We order from Madison Café quite often at work. We always go for the quesadillas; which are always delicious with more than generous portions. We have also tried the salads, burgers, wraps and philly cheese steaks, which are all good as well. Delivery service is always fast. Definitely recommend them, they have never disappointed us!

Food is amazing! I always order some buttermilk pancakes for breakfast. I love thier burgers, salads and Mexican tacos. And you can’t go wrong with a tropical smoothie!

Ppl stop lyin no one eats from the same spot every day… i notice in this resto they feed and service the police before other customers thats sucks.

Always used to order from this place but they do some false advertising on the facility with free delivery which is not true they charge $ 3.00.

Delivery is prompt and always delish. So far, every time I’ve ordered, it has been good. Spinach quesadilla and steak burritos are very good and filling.

I used to order from Madison twice a day. Where I work in the Bronx it’s one of the few options. This is the same for many of my 30+ coworkers.
My experience in the last few weeks has caused me to drastically change my opinion and decide not order any longer. Here’s some of the surprises you too can expect from them.
1. Think that published price on the menu/​website is correct? WRONG!
2. Willing to pay a premium for fresh squeezed OJ or carrot juice? Big cup of ice with a spash of juice.
3. Nothing says we appreciate our repeats like a sudden $ 3 delivery fee.
4. Hope your not in a hurry. Call for breakfast and you will be on hold for 5 minutes.

Manhattan-​level prices for at what is at best, mediocre diner food. I stop by some mornings to get an iced coffee, but I have yet to eat something worth going back for. Their breakfast sandwiches are fine, but their Mexican menu and general sandwiches are nothing to write home about. There definitely are cheaper alternatives nearby, but they’re the only ones who have a liquor license, if that is something you are looking for.

This place was recommended to me from a coworker so I thought it would have been better to try something different… I should have ordered from the place I always order from. Sorry but I will never order from here again. I had chorizo sausage with 2 eggs sunny side up platter and a berry smoothie… the chorizo sausage came whole. I always order this and have never had it whole. It’s always chopped up. The potatoes with the platter was dry and the toast was so cold the butter didn’t melt. The berry smooth was the joke of it all. It was blended fruit… that’s all no ice. Sorry $ 12.00 for breakfast that was horrible isn’t good at all.

I literally order breakfast from here every weekend and every chance that I get and weekdays when I have a chance I order lunch I am so involved with this place, the food is amazing the prices are amazing.
And just recently I happened to stroll into the restaurant because it’s rare for me to stumble into the restaurant and it is lovely. I love this place they never let me down when I order my food is always correct and I have an allergy so I inform them and they never get my orders wrong !!

Very upset with Madison. My company has been ordering from here on a daily business since they have opened. Today I was overcharged for a salad, when i called and asked why I was told it was because I went over the 5 allotted veggies, when I explained I only had 3 veggies, I was put on a long hold and the woman came back to the phone saying that I was charged and extra dollar for a small plastic condiment cup of dressing which had spilled in the bag. I am not big in sending food back instead I will just never order from there again. It sucks too because they are a great addition to this neighborhood which is a food dessert but customer service is key. Totally disappointed, the greens were wilted and the packaging was a mess.

Fast. Quick. Cheap.
Sign me up for one of the best lunch options in the area. Salad bar? Check. Diner food? Check. Hot table? Check.
I’m in here 3xs a week, so yea, its good.

3 stars as a first visit ONLY because of the chef and general décor… with that said…
I pass this place often. Finally one Wednesday night around 7 PM, it’s brightly lit sign finally seduced me after a long meeting and local shopping spree which had my stomach sounding like it was revving for tryouts at the Daytona nationals.
Struggling in with multiple shopping bags, I plopped wearily down at a table. I was shortly greeted by a very young studious looking waitress who almost comically looked as if she was playing dress up. I was handed a colorful brochure style menu from which I ordered a bacon burger deluxe (no cheese please). I also asked for a serving of iced tea.
I was given a glass of water with a straw and as I sipped it, I took a good look at the place. Brightly lit, clean looking, COLORFUL table setups… a little kiddie playland themed for my taste with all the primary colors at each table. Meh! It seemed to have a bar on the back left and centrally located in the back was a beautifully decorated wall that led as I found out later to stairs on the right (not sure where those went up to) and restrooms on the left.
The waitress stood near my table for a bit so I tried to talk with her to throw off the feel that she was hovering without cause. «Nice place, How long are you here?» I asked «I’m new!» she responded. Mentally shaking my head at her I tried again…(clears throat) «I mean this location.» Her response was «Oh…I came to work at 3 today and will probably be here til 10 or so» At that moment… she appeared in my mind as a bobble head that somehow had been brought to life by a modern Papa Geppetto and given a job so that she and Pinnochio could make ends meet in the real live world. (sigh)
She brought to my table a bacon CHEESEBURGER with a pickle wedge and small dipping container sized coleslaw. I blinked at it, too tired to complain about the cheese I had specifically not wanted. The iced tea was brought in a plastic 8 oz? take out cup complete with lid minus straw. (sigh) no problem. I just recycled the one from my water glass. It tasted like the powdered Western Beef Ice Tea Mix kind. Does that make it «home made?» HOWEVER… Where the &*%#* were my damn fries! Furthermore… was I supposed to throw back the little packaged cole slaw like a tequila shot? No silverware huh? That told me fries would not be joining my burger. I made a note to be sure they would not make my final bill.
I did enjoy the burger which was perfectly grilled, flavorful and juicy. (Chef shoutout!) It was the burger that made me more forgiving of the blundering waitress at this point. I decided to order something to take home for my hubby. I asked the waitress if the Monte Cristo Panini listed as turkey, ham, cheddar mayo could be made without the ham. She looked completely confused before chatting with the chef responding «the menu says it comes with the ham» As hubby does not eat pork, I instructed her to forget the Monte Cristo and I ordered a cheese steak wrap.
I asked for the restroom and was presented with a key attached to a hefty steel bar. (gas station status) I was directed to the left of the back central wall. On the door of the ladies room was a handwritten sign declaring the restroom off limits to those who were not customers. Entering the small restroom, I fell in love with the tiled cabinet and beautiful floating bowl sink. That was the end of my fascination as the bathroom smelled of urine and needed a cleanup of the tissue strewn floor.
I returned to find that my bill was almost $ 25! Say What???
Looking at it I discovered that although I had not been charged for the eloped fries, I had been overcharged for the bacon cheeseburger by 50 cents. The Monte Cristo panini I had not ordered due to its pork content had appeared. The cheese steak wrap was in its rightful place. I pointed out the errors of the bill becoming annoyed when I had to show her the menu to correct the burger price. The chef had already prepared both the cheese wrap and the Monte Cristo and shot her a blood freezing glare when she asked him to unpack the Monte Cristo. He looked over at me shaking his head in frustration but flashing me a smile nonetheless. Kudos to him for holding his cool!
The bill was retotaled and came down to about $ 17.00. I couldn’t resist informing her that her final error was not showing the customers the tax amount after the subtotals on their bills to avoid discrepancies. She thanked me and I offered the inexperienced soul encouraging words for her waitress career.
Because I enjoyed the food, I will return and hope that this particular waitress has improved or that she is not present at all when I arrive.
SUMMARY
Go for the food! Well done for sure! Avoid the waitress of small frame, dark hair, wearing glasses if you want to be serviced by an experienced server. I will update this review in the very near future
