I only get the veggie patties and they are delish!!! I buy, literally like 4 at a time. Just enough spice for me. Besides that, nothing special about this chain bakery. Employees aren’t all that welcoming but who cares? I just want my veggie patties. 2 stars because they often run out of/didn’t make enough veggie patties for the day.

OK the Golden Krust I am trying to review is actually at White Plains Rd and Holland st, closer to the E Gun Hill intersection, but for some reason I can’t find it anywhere, not even on their website. But there is one there I swear! Anyway, I went here 2 days ago. Now as a rule I am usually wary of a place with any variation of the word«crust» in its name, let alone a misspelling of it. It just conjures unappetizing images in my mind. However, there is really not much to choose from in this part of the Bronx. But someone told me to get a beef patty from this place. I went and got one on coca bread — bread I had never heard of until 2 days ago. As soon as I bit into it I chastised myself for waiting nearly 22 years to finally try a Jamaican beef patty. What took me so long? This I will never know, but I’m glad I finally got around to it. Yes, the best description of the crust if golden. And crunchy. And delicious. Now, the actual meat inside wasn’t too flavorful. But the star of this snack is the coca bread you put the patty in. It’s amazing — it tastes what I imagine a glazed donut without the glaze would taste like it. It’s not what you would expect to put a beef patty in, but the Jamaicans got it right on this one. It works perfectly. That’s all I got there, but I plan to go back and try the other things they have(oxtail!).

Golden Krust has Jamaican food, and most importantly Patties(a tasty meat pie), in several varieties, including Spicy Beef, Curry Chicken, Shrimp, and Vegetable(no meat). They used to have Soy and Calalloo(a green veggie, like spinach) but they appear to be no more. This location is my favorite Golden Krust, as it actually is in a neighborhood with many Jamaican stores where you can get drinks such as Horlicks(a malted milk drink you mix with milk), Milo(a chocolate Nestle milk add-in that is almost impossible to find in the made in Jamaica version, but NYC has versions from Ghana, Singapore, China, Columbia, Indonesia, and Malaysia available, all with slightly different tastes). At GK, there are also Jamaican sweet baked goods… As to drinks, I suggest the Grace brand Pineapple-Ginger juice drink… Also, Ting(grapefruit soda) or DG Pineapple soda are good choices.
