Good food, good price, good customer service and fast. They have a full menu and the food is authentic Latin food(Dominican) — check it out.

What I am about to describe is insane! I ordered a Cuban sandwich. Lady behind the counter grabs a hero bread, cuts it in half, places cheese, ham and pork bits into it and then proceeds to throw said sandwich into the MICROWAVE!!! Dios mio! That is not how you prepare a Cubano! Appalling to say the least. I walked out leaving that soggy nuked wanna be Cubano behind. Shame on you Economico. Get a sandwich press!

Their food is tasty depending what cook is on duty(I have a taste for good food that is seasoned well) overall customer service the ladies can be a little nicer when attending an actual live customer(not over phone) I have personally gone there and have ordered half chicken with rice and beans for 9.50 $(great price) and I have got a very decent piece of half chicken but today I ordered and I got a very small piece that my daughter can eat by herself went back to the place and showed it to them and ladies argued that it isn’t their fault that the chickens are small but from past times all the chicken are same sizes to me I felt as if I was getting run for my money. That being said PLEASECHECKTHEQUANTITYYOUAREBEINGGIVEN

‘El Economico’, translates to economical prices. The food is great! Rice is always cooked to perfection here; the beef and chicken stews are savory. In fact, their entire menu is delicious! This place also houses a loft where the restrooms are located. So don’t lose it if you have to walk up the steep stair case. Lol

EL Economico Spanish — American Restaurant is very good and very friendly. I went to Bronx today to meet a client(a business appt). After I finished with my client, I got kind of hungry so I stopped at the very first food place I could notice on Broadway. And… what a pleasant surprise! The beef I ordered was so juicy and the brown rice was just cooked perfect. The whole thing was delicious. I also found out on my way out that they have Karaōke nights there every Friday and Saturday night… till 4am ! WoW ! They also have a Free WiFi and a FULL open bar there which for a small restaurant in that area is a surprise. They are open 7 days a week and have flat screen TVs there. So if you’re a sports bar person, you will definitely fit in there. Very good experience! I will stop in again the next time I’m in Kingsbridge NY area.

Just left this restaurant with a take out order. The lady who took my order didn’t get to ask her, her name but she has black hair and had a green bangle on her wrist. She was nice and attentive towards me. Took the initiative to ask me if my order was taken already. We also had a clear understanding no miscommunication these days that’s so hard to come by. I’m very grateful for the hospitality I was given by her. :-) oh yeah I order baked chicken with rice and beans, stew chicken rice and beans, and sweet plantains. P. s instead of giving me the plantains that was already out she took the time to fry me a new batch.

Any time I’m in the Bronx I make sure to swing by this place for their pressed steak sandwiches($ 6.50) and beef stew over rice($ 7). If you plan on getting the sandwiches make sure to call ahead and pick up because it could take up to half an hour to make.

I get take out all the time from here and have never been disapointed. The Pernil is great. The pulpo salad is also very good. Place is small with a lunch counter an some tables in the back and upstairs.

It was close, on route and Unilocal rated it highly. Anyway, for 4 dishes, it was $ 28. Very cheap! We got the lunch special at 7:30pm. The portions were huge. Yellow rice and pinto beans were good but I would have preferred black beans. The oxtail was delicious, but the chicken and the beef were a bit dry. The sweet plantains were amazing! And the people working there were really nice and spoke English. Just note that it’s in the Bronx, under a bridge of sorts so go during daylight.

I get take out from here at least once per week. Love the food here, it’s authentic, flavorful, fresh and cheap. Would highly recommend the pernil, sancocho, pork and chicken mofongo, and stew beef. My friends like the oxtail but I think it’s a bit chewy. The ladies at the service counter are always friendly and helpful even though they don’t always speak English.

I only had the coffee. It was creamy, fresh, and delicious. Maybe one day I will try the food.

I’m wondering why so many people rave about this place? I personally have never eaten there but my mom went for take out once and she noticed in the back of the restaurant that they kept their pots and pans piled up and there were roaches all over the place. She told them she’d come back because she had to get money at the bank… They’re still waiting!

Me and my family were out looking for a good place to eat that had a «A» health department rating. My mother recommended this place. It’s small, plays loud Latin music, has okay food and AMAZING low prices. The food was a little bland compared to other places I’ve eaten with similar food. I do have to say that their chicken pasteles were the WORST I’ve have ever SEEN or eaten. They were mushy and looked like baby vomit and they tasted pretty damn close to baby vomit or at least how I would imagine baby vomit to taste since I’ve never tasted it… or wait maybe it’s a memory I have when I was a baby and had vomited… not sure. But stay away from their Pasteles. My sisters weren’t thrilled with the pork ones either. My sister ordered carne guisada(Beef stew over white rice) and they completely left out the potatoes. When she asked where the potatoes were they told her they had no more potatoes, they didn’t even bother to tell her so she had the option to pick something else.

We came. We saw. We stuffed our faces. We paid $ 45 for the five of us(not including tip, which we gave generously for very friendly service). My Puerto Rican companions were way more critical of the Dominican style than I(I like all the variations), but everyone agreed Economico is GOODFOOD for CHEAP. Pernil, maduros, pasteles and malta: so satisfying. But if you get the pasteles, get the pork not the chicken. The pork was heaven but the chicken was tasteless.

Ok, I’ve got to update the last comment because I just saw that the questionable big orange«C» Dept of Health rating I noted below has been upgraded to an «A» — not sure what that«C» was about but it still sounds scary! I guess they’ve cleared whatever the heck was wrong up… I’m still debating whether I should go in…

I got hungry on my way back home so I hopped off the train one stop before my regular stop to find a bite to eat. I walked into El Economico on a whim. There was seating at the counter in the front of the restaurant and a few stray tables scatter in the back and the upstairs mezzanine. The ambiance was nothing to write home about but it was comfortable and down to earth. The woman sitting behind the register was sucking on a lollipop, chatting and laughing. Plates of food were carried to the table with cafeteria trays. The TV was flipped to Telemundo and the movie«Justo de la Mira» was playing(that would be «Vantage Point»). Not an ounce of doubt about why this place exists: to feed hungry people. I slid onto a stool at the counter and ordered a pernil sandwich. The pernil was plentifully scoped onto a hero, doused with chopped garlic, heated in a press and served in a matter of minutes. The world around me stopped for a second after my first bite. I was no longer wondering how the sandwich was prepared so fast. Was the pork just swimming in its own juices for a few hours waiting to be served? Did the chopped garlic get spooned from a Costco sized jar? Who cares. The sandwich was amazing. I didn’t even care that I was sitting next to a small, bearded homeless guy who was painting his fingernails with lip gloss(though it helped that he didn’t smell and had a friendly smile). He could have been painting MY fingernails for crying out loud. I would have continued savoring every bite. The pernil melted in my mouth, as it should, while the few pieces of crispy chicharon hiding in the sandwich made for a pleasant surprise. It was simply delicious. As I settled back down from my pork induced high, I started watching the work behind the counter. Oxtail stew was scoped onto plates by the ladleful, huge avocados were being sliced up for salads, fried pork chops appeared from the back kitchen, and batch after batch of plantains were being pulled out of the deep fryer. All I could keep thinking was that I had to go back.

If you like Dominican food, this is one of the best places around. The prices are very reasonable as well as the portions of food. One meal could honestly feed two. Well worth a visit.

Good food. Cheap prices. They deliver or you can pick up. Delicious. Update as per Chun’s request for elaboration: It’s a Dominican restaurant and the food is pretty typical to Dominican cuisine: lots o’ rice, lots o’ beans, lots o’ pork and baked chicken. You can get a full order that will probably feed 6 people who have normal appetites or 3 people who grew up eating this food. Or you can get«un lunche,» where they put your whole order in one container that’s enough to feed 2 people or just me.

Yes, I know, the restaurant is right under the el train. It’s loud, very. There is no ambiance. But the food is really good authentic Dominican stick to your ribs. The portions are massive. The coffee is rich and delicious, the kind that gives you super powers after a cup full. It’s always busy inside. The Sancocho soup on a torrentially rainy day really hits the spot. Entrée prices at under $ 10 each are, well, economico.
