My favorite pizza… Anywhere!!! I have been coming to Arthur Avenue for a number of years. I want to try Dominick’s, Roberto’s, etc. However, I love this pizza too much. It’s that good. It’s not sitting on the counter. Place your order… Wait ten minutes… Enjoy! It’s in Belmont, not Parkchester.

Review is for the Tough Guy hero($ 9.25), which has made my day both times I’ve had it. Delectable, wafer-thin slices of prosciutto and salami envelop fabulously oily sun-dried tomatoes, a sheet of silky fresh mozzarella and two planks of crispy fried eggplant. The bread is a crusty loaf of sesame semolina. 100% sandwich magic. In conclusion, it boggles the mind that there’s never a line here while Mike’s Deli just 50 feet away is perpetually swamped.

Café has been holding it down in Arthur Ave market for decades. Their espresso is so good that it gives me chills. Their sandwiches and meats are incredible. The pizza is, as advertised, some of the best I’ve had in my life. Perhaps best of all, their prices are totally reasonable(especially in comparison with other«Italian» delis in the area). I would hands down recommend this place over Mike’s and Tino’s. Don’t expect much in the way of customer service. But if you were looking for that, why are you in an Italian market in the Bronx? Bottom line; tremendous food and drink at a borderline cheap price, with good atmosphere to boot.

This is my favorite place on Arthur Avenue. I like to stop by for a slice of pizza and a cup of cappuccino. When I visit I always bring food home for family and friends. All of their food is delicious!

I must say that if you’re looking for something that is no-frills, truly authentic Italian food, this is your place. Located in the back of the market the small and unassuming café prepares the finest Veal Parmesan hero on the planet. It’s very simple, if you start off with a truly excellent veal, great sauce and, use fine cheese and wonderful Arthur Avenue bread, you will come up with excellence every time. I have been coming back to this café for over 20 years and the vast number of times that I have eaten here, the food has always been extraordinary. I would recommend something that is off the menu, it’s a double veal Parmesan hero, and it is a work of art. If you want to go for a little something extra out of the ordinary, ask for it to be served on garlic bread. This family run establishment also has wonderful pizza heroes and other amazing Italian dishes each one better than the next. You must try The café this takes me all the way back to Italy.

Best espresso on Arthur Avenue. Sicilian slices with gourmet toppings. Al fresco dining in the back of the market. Never disappointed after 20 years.

Had a late lunch there today, one of the combo sandwiches. I have to say that Gina Marie’s review takes the words out of my mouth. very good, but a bit skimpy considering that just the sandwich w/nothing to drink was almost $ 9.00w/tax and he forgot the little macaroni salad that came with it last time. I asked about it when I paid and the guy looked over at the big tray of macaroni and said he’d make up for it next time… he could’ve packed me up a little to go… that said, I ate the whole thing, and I’m sure I’ll be back next trip

Just want to reiterate my undying love for this place! I had their pizza at the Ferragosto for the first time. As far as grandma pizza, this was about as good as it gets. Thin crisp crust, a layer of molten cheese, and a pungent tomato sauce. It wasn’t anything fancy and it didn’t need to be. Perfectly balanced pizza. Also picked up some espresso beans from the old man, who was as grumpy as ever just as his espresso was as exceptional as ever. Fuck I miss being able to go here for lunch…

Tasty, authentic, and quick service. They have a bunch of different gourmet slices, like fig with goat cheese, or broccoli rabe with fennel sausage, that cost $ 4, but they are huge and are very filling. There’s also pasta, sandwiches, etc. also, if you want real cappuccino made by a real old, non-talkative Italian man that is beyond delicious this is the spot!

We wanted to go to a local place with a great deli and no futz. That is what we got! We were craving some fresh deli meet and cheese with an amazing hoagie. My boyfriend and I got combination sandwiches with all kinds of meats, cheese, extras, etc. Everything was just so darn fresh! The bread must have been bought from a bakery around the corner because it was perfection! I could not get over how nice the meats and cheeses were sliced… they were so fresh… they melted in your mouth! Only thing we were slightly disappointed about was the price and the amount of meat on the sand which. These were crazy city prices which we were not expected to get in this part of the Bronx. Two sandwiches and a water bottle was $ 20. We thought a local place like this was going to be way cheaper. The only other problem was the amount of meat. My boyfriend and I go to tons of italian deli places all around NYC… this place was a little skimpy with the meat and cheese. The sandwich was more bread then meat and the slices were few. That bother me a little bit. The meat was so fresh, so the flavors were still very pleasant. It is just, for that price I am used to a sandwich that is overflowing with meats.

Best. pizza. ever. Anytime I have guests coming to visit the NY area, I will take them to Arthur Avenue Marketplace… for pizza, I’ll take them into corner of the Marketplace to have their minds blown with the flaky deliciousness that is Café al Mercado. They’re very quick and have a great variety of slices. My friends from Texas had pizza in the city practically everyday but they couldn’t stop raving about Café Al Mercado. I love the lasagna and cheese slices! Delicious bread and fresh ingredients. A must if you’re in the Bronx area.

Of the many places we tried pizza while we were in NYC, this was our favorite hands down. So fresh and flavorful. They also had octopus and fresh mozarella which were fun to munch on.(See pictures!) If we ever go back to NYC, which we definitely plan on, this will be the first place we go to for a slice or four.

Hidden in the back corner of Arthur Avenue Marketplace is some of the best pizza you’ll ever have. The crust is incredible. They always have different types of slices when I go. They’ll make any of the pizzas you want or have seen in the past. So far slices I’ve had include lasagna, broccoli rabe, buffalo chicken, and plane old regular slice. All have been great. They also will make sandwiches but I usually just go for the pizza. Their coffee is great as well. Cappuccino and espressos are delicious.

I’ve lived in NY my entire life, from the burbs to the boroughs, and I can’t find a better slice of sicilian pizza than here. It’s so simple but so delicious: plum tomato pomodoro with a slice of fresh, creamy mozzarella. They should call it the heroin slice: One taste and you’re hooked. Don’t miss the slice with ricotta, sauteed spinach and roasted peppers. Equally fresh and so tasty. And if you want a truly creative journey for your tastebuds, try out the slice with prosciutto and green figs. Sounds strange but it’s amazing how the various flavors hit you one at a time. Needless to say, Ill die content knowing I didn’t miss out on this place.

There really should be more reviews of this place. Stopped in early afternoon one Friday looking for a good sandwich fix before hitting the shops. My friend and I shared the Italian Flag, with proscuitto, broccoli rabe, fresh mozzarella, and roasted red peppers on a sesame hero. It was blissful. It was heaven on a hero. I can’t even say it was any one ingredient that made the sandwich(although every element was fresh and excellent), it was the perfect way everything just melded together. One of the best Italian sandwiches I’ve ever had. I really must go back and try other things. Its located at the back of the Arthur Ave Belmont market, with some tables sectioned off for their use. They also sell a large assortment of antipasti, pizzas, pastas, and sandwiches. Ambience is marketplace, nothing special, but you really need nothing more.

This is a little café located in the Arthur Avenue Retail Market. My sister and I always make it a point of stopping for visit before our flight. They have excellent pasta — our favorite is the penne with prosciutto in vodka sauce, their pizzas are generous with toppings, I had their eggplant parmesan that was heaping with fillings… it was more fillings than bread. We love their salad and their broccoli rabe. They have excellent antipasta. Their food is fresh and tasty, and the guys behind the counter are very friendly and helpful. I love buying my goodies for my inflight menu. The other jetblue passengers generally look at my lunch/dinner with great longing… just a little foresight, I think… and they could have a yummy meal like this too!
