Reviewing(finally) a well known and liked restaurant on City Island today! Arties Steak & Seafood is a landmark here in City Island with fond memories for many! Believe it or not, the Tasty Lady was never here! I was pleasantly surprised by the three spacious dining rooms decorated modestly. Our server Judith was borderline nice and seemed stressed. She eventually abandoned us to the bus boys. They may have been short handed in the other dining rooms, I’m not sure, so I will cut her some slack. We started with Pinot Grigio which was expensive at $ 8 a glass! Oh yes, I forgot, we are on City Island!(Comparable to Manhattan?!?) Our appetizer was the eggplant rollatini which we shared and it was presented nicely and was very good. Onto the lunch entrees!(Side note here, no bread was served with lunch.) My veal Parmiginia with side pasta had a good robust sauce atop tender veal with fresh mozzarella. My partners grilled chicken Caesar salad was good too, but not great. The salad looked a tad bit wilted and the dressing was a little bland. They had appropriate soft music playing, fresh linens on tables and a nice atmosphere! The menus were plastic and mine was stained, it’s not that much more to get leather bound menus! All in all it was a nice dining experience and parking lot is available for convenience.

Great fresh fish daily, the chefs special are always new and creative. I love the white clam and Arugula Pizza with mozzarella. Try the lamb sliders ! The cocktails are also very creative with great ingredients.

Good restaurant with nice people! No prices shown for drinks… But we had an excellent wine with a combo of a whole lobster, mussels, clams etc… Great! I’m told it s was one good place of city island and I will recommend it.

Delicious food. We had Caribbean jerked Mahi and Chicken Francais both great. Buffalo chicken won tons were good as was New England clam chowder even if a little too thick. Nice cool jazz classic R&B soundtrack. Specialty drinks are strong if a little too sweet. Friendly waitstaff. Will go back.

Though it doesn’t loo like much from the outside, this place is beautiful and warm. The service was great, and our meal was delicious. The waiter and busboy were very gracious. We had the pasta primavera, and were really impressed by the colors and flavors. Highly recommended.

I haven’t been to Artie’s in a long time but a friend picked the restaurant for a. lunch between some old friends. The drinks were a bit pricey but the seafood salad was worth every penny. The lobster rolls were a bit disappointing. To much filler and not enough lobster, but they were tasty. Worth another shot at some point in time.

Why is this restaurant still open? Worst restaurant I have ever ate at! I wouldn’t even give my dog the scraps from here. We visited the restaurant on Saturday, August 23, 2014. We waited to be seated for over 10 minutes because the host was nowhere to be found. The waiter gave us bread wrapped in a dirty cloth napkin. The sangria wasn’t even sangria. It had one piece of lemon in it and tasted like pure rum. My food was disgusting. I had the veal milanese. More than ¾ of the veal was fat. The tuna was way over cooked. We asked for medium rare and it came out almost well done. The clam chowder was thick like cement. Don’t waste your time at this restaurant, you can prepare a better meal at home!

Not coming back here! waited a long time to be seated, we were ignored by the bartender and i waiter, picked up the menu from the front desk and had enough time to look at the special at least 5 times before we got seated. There were four of us for dinner, i had what i would like to describe as the worst tuna ever! my drink was way to strong so i didn’t enjoy it, everyone else at the table had similar experience with their food. Do not recommend, don’t waste your time, try the Black Whale a few blocks away, the service is so much better and you’ll enjoy your food!

Dinner celebration for a good friend was absolutely perfect! Ribs were delicious, Fielet Mignon was small 8 oz but cooked perfectly! Clams cocktail fresh and the drinks were fabulous, Pina Coladas and Bloody Marys very filling and served in large glasses. The Hostess and server Judith was outgoing and funny, service was excellent! Till next time Arties…

There were 4 for dinner and we were served very nicely by the whole staff. I was nervous about being neglected based on other reviews but we had no such experience! They were very attentive and pleasant. As for the food– wonderfull ! We shared the seafood and pasta platter for 2 and the veal Marsala and it was more than enough and both dishes were excellent The entrees come with salad so we shared the 3 salads between the 4 of us We had the Tiramisu which had just the right touch of espresso — excellent end to a fine dinner

The exterior is very inviting, as is the interior and overall ambiance. It has a very homey feel, without it being in a cramped space with limited seating. It is a HUGE restaurant to host big family events and office dinners. But, they also have romantic booth seating arrangements, where I noticed a lot of couples toasting and clinking their wine glasses away! Considering that is in City Island, I was expecting loud and obnoxious décor, but I found its rusticity and simplicity to be soothing. A major plus, since I was there for a family get-together with a grandmother and grandpops. The food is mediocre, though. The bread was cold, which it sometimes is, but was a bit on the stale side. Horror! We ordered a fried calamari and baked clams for appetizer. The fried calamari was excellent, but it’s very difficult to mess it up, so they do not get brownie points for it. The baked clams were gritty! They obviously did not clean it enough. We continued onto our king crab, Maine lobster, and Zuppa di Pesce aka a 2 – 3 serving red sauce linguini topped with loads of seafood. The king crab had absolutely no meat in it, and virtually impossible to crack open even with the tools that they have provided us with. The Maine lobster was decent, but it wasn’t as juicy and tender as I remember Maine lobster to be, which leads me to think that their lobster isn’t from Maine. Maybe. The Zuppa di Pesce also had a few lobster pieces floating around, but it was mostly just cheap clams, mussels, scallops, and calamari. And the pasta sauce was just a generic red tomato meat sauce. We had to order more food, consequently. We ordered a chicken parm. Overfried batter with dry chicken. Gross. Oh, and when the check came-a-comin’, we noticed that they charged us for not 1, but 2 damn Zuppa di Pesce. We didn’t even want to pay for the one we had! I won’t be coming back.

I’ve been eating here for a decade. It’s easily the best joint on City Island. Great food, great service, great portions, great drinks. The specials are always delicious and everything is super fresh. This really is where the locals eat.

I have been going here for lunch, for years, and it has been consistently good. There are lots of great places on City Island. I was always«referred» to the places I went, or I personally knew the owners. I was proud that I «found» Artie’s by myself. Of course, it had already been there for about 40 years. ‘See, I was looking for someplace *different*, away from my usual City Island haunts. So Artie’s was always«my place,» and I actually kept it a *secret* from family and friends, for awhile. It is more expensive than a run-of-the-mill meal in the Bronx, but worth it. The service is usually good, but, remember, this is not a fast food restaurant. I love their linguine with lobster, shrimp and mushrooms in a red sauce($ 17.00). Over the years, I’ve sampled a lot of their other dishes and found them to be uniformly well cooked, creative, properly seasoned and fresh. They serve coffee($ 3.50) in HUGE cups, like the Central Perk Café in the TV show«Friends.» There is a row of outdoor tables on the sidewalk, but these are not the classic«City Island view» outdoor tables. The interior is also different. It’s like an old cozy steakhouse or smoking club: there’s a very small bar, moderate sized rooms, carefully laid out place settings, everything very clean and neat, with lots of dark wood, and muted colors.

For the same price range as you would pay for the fried food joints on city island, you can get a gourmet meal at Artie’s. The food was amazing, I had the best calamari of my life as an appetizer, the cherry pepper curry calamari. For my entrée I ordered the captain’s platter which had a variety of shell fish and a filet of sole all prepared in a scampi sauce. I left satisfied but a few friends who I was with ordered dishes that left them hungry. All in all I would recommend this place as a nice alternative to the rest of city island’s fare.
