The best Italian Ice in the western suburbs! Also a fan of the grilled chicken sandwich and French fries.

This place is an old diner, family owned, serving Great burgers with all the fixings. Had the mushroom cheese burger and my son had a bacon cheese burger, both were better than anything from a fast food joint at par with some of the specially(and more expensive) burger joints. Only cost $ 4 each, $ 8 with fries and drinks.

Kombs is one of those places you can always rely on. They have a large menu of different kinds of items you can expect to find at any American fast food joint. Hot dogs, burgers, slices of pizza, and the like. Nothing here is going to blow your socks off, but that’s not why you come to a place like Kombs. I usually get the two hot dog deal that comes with fries. I’m never disappointed.

Typical place for a quick bite. The menu has a little bit of everything. I went with the Two Dog Special for $ 6.99, and they’re pretty solid dogs and come with a good amount of fries. I wouldn’t write about the food but its very good for a quick lunch. Cheers!

Drive-thru during lunch for a mediocre beef sandwich and beef barley soup. Not the same place I frequented 10 years ago. Disappointing.

This place used to be one my favorites back in the day. Early 2000’s. It’s just not the same anymore. The place is falling apart… the tables against the wall are basically at a 45 degree angle, prices seem much higher now as well. Bottom line, if I’m going out for a beef/dog type of meal I will probably head elsewhere.

… nice dog with a soft bun and well-dressed condiments — Fine service and I liked the décor — I also like that the fries are separate so you can have 2 dogs without having to eat 2 orders of potatoes —

Gyro platter with extra sauce and extra pita is the way to go, for two people of course. :) Italian ice is yummy too.

Food was good. Got the gyros and a dog and both were very good. I can’t knock the food, but the establishment is a dump. 1. The ceilings, especially at the vents were filthy, even the neon at the front counter was filthy. Ceiling in the prep area was also filthy. 2. The camera in back of the preparation area — coated with dust. 3. Duct tape on the menu board, clear tape on the laminate on the garbage cans. 4. Wallpaper falling off the walls. 5. Men’s urinal was broken, covered with a plastic bag — and the toilet tank was broken. 6. Water damage from a leak from the roof at the front counter. It sure does not look like anyone cares about how this place looks, and it looks like garbage. Pitiful. Go thru the drive thru if you dare. Obviously, the Village of Broadview has no idea what a business is supposed to look like, otherwise someone would make the owner fix this dumpy dump.

All I can say is. WOW! This place is really AMAZING. The italian beef is very good, It’s juicy but they use the good kind of bread that doesn’t fall apart. They are also very generous with the meat. Their fries are also very good, and again, they are very generous with the fries, fill up the whole bag… and then some. 5 Star hot-dog joint!

I like Kombs. Mainly I go here because its close to work. The food is good compared to what’s around, burgers are delicious and the chicken tenders are extra good. The owners run the joint and are very nice. Fast food that is way better than the McDonalds a block away.

OK, it’s a dive for local blue collars. Dogs, steak sandwiches, Italian beef; it’s all on the menu. Old 50’s style seating mixed with flat screen TV’s hanging in the corners. Serve yourself fountain drinks, plastic refillable ketchup bottles and napkin dispensers on the table. Kinda comfortable actually. Makes you feel like you’ve been there a million times. SUPER friendly staff and very fast. Order something from the handwritten special menu and you’re in and out before you can draw your soda. Great fries as mentioned. We had Italian beefs — not stringy, just the right juice. It’s one of the better neighborhood dog and beef locations in Chicago. Don’t be afraid to try it!

I miss this place. When I lived in Maywood and use to walk around Broadview down Cermak Street from 17th to 25th Avenues, I use to always stop at this place for some delicious food. An aunt that I stayed with at the time loved the food this place offers also. One time, I remember, while walking at nighttime in fall 2006 towards home, I decided to purchase a slice of cheese pizza. Okay, got one huge slice of cheese pizza, it’s price I can’t recall, but it was pretty cheap and well worth the price. That one big slice of pizza, oh my gosh, I wanted to save it until I returned home, but I just couldn’t help myself. I broke that long forbidden rule of eating while walking! LOL. It was that darn delicious, I just couldn’t help myself like I said! In 2007, I came to visit my aunt after I had moved to south suburban Lynwood. We went to Kombs together that day, and I was surprised to see that this place had TVs! On the screen was the pre-race coverage of that year’s Preakness Stakes horse race(won by Curlin and not poor KY Derby winner Street Sense, who I wanted to win so bad, oh poor baby) on NBC. Okay, now that I’ve been using 7-day CTA/Pace passes over the past few months will I return to this location? Oh you know I will, I just need to find the time and the day to do so. And the Pace 322 Cermak bus runs very, very often by this place and even has a stop not too far from it, so, if you’re in the Broadview/North Riverside area, you just may want to visit Kombs, and have a good time! Happy eating!

I use to work right down the block from this place and visited it several times a week. I disliked the fries but it seems they came with everything, they were generally greasy and overcooked. The hamburgers/cheeseburger is pretty good so is the«fried chicken sandwich». I would say avoid the philly steak sandwich its not even a close approximation of the real thing. And a word to the wise, they do not sell chicago style dogs here, its not even optional. Um, Italian ice is good and the staff is friendly… good eating.

I adore this place. And the other reviewer is correct in that they specialize in giving you a thick and(healthy?) helping of ‘oil soaked hand cut fries’. But they’re not greasy fries in a BAD way, this is the place where they’re greasy fries in a GOOD way. Great friendly people at the drive thru who will make my fries ‘not so crunchy’ if I ask. And I always do. And unlike another popular ‘fries’ place on Irving Park Road they serve their fries with KETCHUP! I wish they were open 24⁄7 cuz I’m craving those fries now. Great price range for a hotdog and fries, definitely Chicago style with tomato, pickle, cucumber, relish, mustard and hot peppers(that’s a standard dog). But you can order it customized if you like. I don’t like mustard, but I like they way this place makes a hotdog, so I order it with the works. There’s a daily special, 2 hotdogs and a drink for like 4 bucks; add fries for another buck. Great stop enroute or returning from an Oak Brook shopping spree. Oh, as a side note… the Kombs on La Grange Road is nothing like this one! So don’t go there expecting hand cut fries or anything resembling a «Chicago hot dog» style joint.

Crunchy, fresh cut, oil soaked fries, which are the best kind, come from here. Pizza puffs, hot dogs and burgers are also on the menu. Then there’s the Homemade Italian ice in six different flavors! Lemon and Lime are my two favoritese and both have little pieces of fruit in it. Not only is the food yummy, but it’s also cheap. $ 3.49 for two hot dogs, fries and a drink. There are several different Kombs hot dog spots, but each is completely separately owned and even the menu’s are different aside from the hot dogs and burgers. None of them have ever let me down. Minus one star because this Kombs looks like a dive inside and out.
