Big disappointment I was talked into getting the Keratin treatment and told it would last for four to six months. I waited three days to wash my hair and now, less than ten weeks later, you’d never know I had anything done at all! I don’t even have curly hair but was told it would be super straight. I’ll never recommend this place nor will I return!

I’ll start off by saying I have pretty curly hair(wavy and almost banana curls underneath) and I’ve blow dried and straightened it every other day for as long as I can remember. I was leaving to backpack Europe for two months(no blow dryer, straightener or serious $$ to spend at one of my previous Keratin salons) and stumbled across the Groupon for Ella and David’s. I called to see if they had availability and David said to come in that Monday(I found out when I got there he had come in JUST for me that morning. AWESOME) and he said they would still honor the Groupon deal without me purchasing it(saves them a fee!).(You are also offered a free mani or pedi OR a trim with the deal). David was amazing and I will 100% be back to get the treatment done again. Best part: I have not once touched a straightener since this treatment and use a blow drier occasionally. A little over two months later and my hair is still air drying with just a little bit of wave. I have had the Keratin treatment done 5 – 6 times before at expensive salons and I would be pulling out my straightener and blow dryer around this time. Not sure if it’s what David uses or how he does it. but I don’t see myself needing another treatment for a few months from now. Paid half the price I normally do and looks to be lasting twice as long. Nothing bad to say about this place at all and can’t wait to return!

I just moved into Howard Beach and have been searching for a place to get a trim; nothing special just getting rid of some split ends. After visiting a friend, I randomly wound up here. Some of the best places I’ve been to were holes-in-the-wall(like this establishment). It took the lady cutting my hair less than 10 minutes. She didn’t even make sure any of the sides were even. She blow dried my hair without putting anything on it to protect it from the heat(I hate heat-styling my hair and don’t do it). In the middle of blow-drying it, she said my hair was dry and brittle and then tried to sell me stuff. My best friend is a professional hair dresser in the city at a high-end salon. She has told me on numerous occasions that my hair is healthy and thick… Maybe if this woman had bothered to actually protect my hair while frying it, it wouldn’t have felt that way. Lastly, the lady didn’t make me feel warm or welcome at all. She just kept screaming across the store to her son in another language. The only time she said anything to me was to comment on the dryness she caused, and then to tell me my total. Lady, most of us have worked customer service jobs at one point or another, it pays to be cordial to make your customers feel welcome and want to return(which I most definitely will not be). End of the story– Paid $ 35 for a crappy trim to get rid of my split ends and they’re still there.

Im leaving for Rome in a week and found out the humidity there is about 80%. Im Puerto Rican and have extremely curly hair. I panicked and started searching Groupon for Keratin Deals. I ran across Ella & David’s. I called to get information, David answered the phone and was extremely confident and answered my questions perfectly. I asked him if he had availability that same day, a Saturday mind you, and he told me to come right in. I did not even have to buy the Groupon and he still gave me the deal– cant say he will always do this but it was a great gesture.(Either way always call before you purchase Groupon’s, sometimes they just post for advertisement). The salon was as busy as you would expect a salon to be on a saturday. However, without an appointment I only waited an hour. David talked me through other options and products to assist me through my «Rome Crisis.» The entire Keratin process took about 3 hours, which i expected. The salon was great! Friendly, relaxed and everyone seemed to be a regular customer was treated like family. Ive been to other New York Salons and either everyone is up tight or they treat you like cattle. David and Ella’s was amazing!!! So far my hair is pin straight. I am not a fan of the texture and feel but i’ll wait until i wash it to really tell. I’ll also post after Rome to let everyone know how it went. LASTANDFINALNOTE: Ella’s Salon is actually a salon that was located in an area that was devastated by hurricane Sandy. David and his stylist were kind enough take out their mani pedi spa area and allow Ella to set up shop. I just think that is just a really amazing gesture.
