We recently had a server who did not apologize upon our noticing some of the dining-ware had a bleach-like detergent smell to it. It is a courtesy thing. We know its not your fault, this is a courtesy thing and something staff should be trained to do. How about if you just say, «oh that needs to be changed right away» and done with a smile, its then all good! Now certain expectations beyond this are reserved for more quality establishments. It was her non-service oriented attitude and un-catering demeanor we did not particularly care for. She also felt the need to reach in between us to remove(bussing) a tiny container of fake margarine like butter substitute, despite her careless lack of notice we were in deep conversation. Servers– its a good idea to ask if your patrons needed anything at that moment removed from that table. We decided to find her lack of serving kills to be amusing rather than be annoyed. That said, might work in the restaurants favor to take the time to teach its newer staff how to actually«serve» a table, since that could really help the experience of the very so-so food filled with more chemicals that a Banquet frozen entrée from Walmart. You could put the two side by side, and you’d be hard pressed to spot the difference. No, Really. Your butternut squash ravioli has a sort of ‘caramel’ topping that could turn a person pre-diabetic with the amount of intense, fructose syrup in it! The food is not only filled with fake sugars, and high levels of chemicals, over all the menu is not actually very good, especially in ratio to the prices. But if they train up the staff to serve the way most diners come to expect, it could be less of a so-so experience. The steak is terribly overpriced and came out like a burnt hockey puck when ordered medium-well.

Went here for dinner with 5 friends and my husband on a Tuesday evening. We had made a reservation — love that feature — and our table was ready upon arrival even though some of the party arrived quite early. Beverage orders were taken and questions answered by a friendly and accommodating wait person. Many, many great sounding choices on the menu. It was tough to decide, but we all finally did and not 1 of us had a single complaint about our dinners. We ordered veal Oskar, stuffed haddock, vegetable ravioli, meatloaf Wellington, prime rib sandwich and veal Madeira. Everything was wonderful — just perfect. Portions were generous and a few of us had plenty to take home. Each meal was accompanied by 2 sides of choice and the selection of those was more than adequate. The bread baskets had yummy rolls and pumpkin bread along with 2 kinds of butter. The building has several dining areas and is so comfortable in a country way. There are big fireplaces with roaring fires — a very easy place to spend an evening! That night being Tuesday if you had an inner circle club card, which we did, the 2nd dinner was half price — love that! Some of our friends didn’t have one, so filled out the form and received their card and points that night. Needless to say, we all left there happy and full!

Always solid. Nothing fancy just good food at reasonable prices served in a homey atmosphere. Have not had a bad meal here ever and there are very few restaurants that is true for.

The service was good but the food was over priced and bland. I ordered the seafood sampler for $ 25 which was lobster, scallops, fish and shrimp. I received a small bowl with a little bit of fish, 4 scallops, one shrimp, and a little bit of lobster. Other than some dry breading on the lobster there was no seasoning on the food. The breading ruined the lobster. For 25 I could of had a much better meal at red lobster.

A year ago ate there and had terrible service and the chicken they served was bad(literally) They comp’d the chicken and gave us a $ 25 gift certificate. We went back last night and had a dry flakey lobster roll, baked stuffed haddock with bones still in and a cold potato. We are done. Time to find somewhere new.

Passing through on our way to Hebron and stopped at this great family run restaurant. We enjoyed the very friendly service, and pleasant ambience. Caesar Salad was dressed lightly and to our liking. My GFs stuffed fish was delicious and she was pleased. My Mediterranean Salmon special was flavorful but a little overcooked. Cocktails and wine were perfect. Would definitely visit again.

How many stars am I allowed to give? This is such a great place to eat! A bit out of the way but well worth the trip. My wife and I just enjoyed my birthday dinner on a Sunday evening. We sat at a table in the bar and we were greeted by an outstanding bar tender. This lady was on the ball! She was very attentive, despite the full bar, and the timing was perfect with everything. I requested a specialty drink that was no longer on the menu and she cheerfully accommodated me. The food: It was amazing. I ordered the Fisherman’s Platter and it was piled with large shrimp, scallops, and a large fried haddock fillet that sat upon the entire large plate. The seafood was cooked to perfection and seasoned properly. It was a bit too much for a single person to eat but I gave it my best shot. My wife ordered the Caesar salad and it came out with my entrée. The greens were fresh, the chicken was either marinated or spiced perfectly, it was very juicy and flavorful. We lingered around and enjoyed another cocktail and one if their home-made desserts. I can say this was the best meal we have had in quite a while. The thing that really sticks out in my mind is the outstanding service we received from the bar keep. She is a total professional and I hope she is on bar for my next visit.

As mentioned in my May review, we DID go back and order something other than Prime Rib. And my # of stars went from 4 to 5 because of this new visit. For this visit we ordered scallops in bacon app($ 11). Five ok sized scallops were served and they were tasty. For an individual app the quantity is fine, but when you share between two, it feels a bit small. Our entrees were Steak Oscar, 6oz Filet Mignon with Lobster meat($ 28). It looked very tempting on the menu so we both ordered the same meal. Entrée came with salad(choice of garden or Caesar) and starch(baked, mashed, fries, etc). We asked for the steaks to be med-rare and they were spot on. Meat was seasoned nicely. We each had a hugh lobster claw on our meat(mine was so big I swear it was from a 3 pounder). Asparagus and Bernaise Sauce finished the entrée wonderfully. We decided to split a dessert, Kentucky Derby Pie($ 6) — a chocolate cookie dough in a pie crust smothered in chocolate sauce with a scoop of ice cream and whipped cream — portion was huge, pie and sauce warm with the perfect cool of the vanilla ice cream. We had a bottle of wine with our meal($ 34) so our meal total was $ 108 before tax and tip. Our meal took 2 hours from when we arrived until we left the restaurant, but we had mentioned to our waitress it was a special dinner for us and she allowed us to take our time. We would eat there again if our travels bring us back to New Hampshire.

One word. Wonderful. My wife, my son and I had our dinner there back in July while on vacation. The prime rib was to die for. Onion soup like you can not get around home. If it wasn’t more than 700 miles away I would eat there every week. It will be one of our go to places when we visit the frozen north. Try it you’ll love it. Great food, great staff, reasonable pricing for the area.

Well… after being seated for at least 20 minutes our order has been taken, however we don’t even have drinks yet. This is a nice restaurant with good food st a reasonable price. But sometimes their waitstaff are not attentive. As a matter of fact our salads were just served and we had to remind the waitress about our drinks.

Good food and drink at reasonable prices. Cozy place with lots of rooms. Great for a large party — we had 20 adults and kids. Went out of their way to make sure we were happy. Wide range of choice on menu. Try the veal porterhouse.

I love The Homestead, and I forget how much I love it till I go there again and order something so scrumptious. Last night I got the baked stuffed haddock– oh my goodness so delicious. Seafood platter and prime rib also excellent choices. The be fire place now in the main room adds a nice addition to the dining experience. Great food and good atmosphere for a quaint New England setting. :)

My husband and I ate here in July 2012 while on vacation. I had gone here as a child, I would request it each year for my birthday dinner. I was curious as too how much it may have changed in the 15 years since I had eaten here. I should not have been worried. I love the history of the building but the only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars was the décor. I wish they had cloth table clothes instead of the vinyl and the carpet was a bit dated. Otherwise the service and the food were wonderful. The bread and butter were delicious. The green salad with blue cheese dressing were great. I ordered the Filet with Mashed Potatoes, and they were the best I have ever eaten. I can’t wait to go back!

The restaurant does have a very nice, cozy setting. It felt like an old converted bed and breakfast. There’s a lot of different dining room to eat and and many have a fireplace. Since its is an old building, there’s a lot of steps as you go room to room so try not to trip. I got one of the specials, the BBQNY steak tips($ 19). The tips were cooked a little too much and were a bit tough. The bbq sauce wasn’t that good. It think it would’ve been better if it were caramelized on to the steak tips but it was largely just poured on after it was cooked. There was a decent amount and definitely less than a normal NY steak. The sides I got were a caesar salad and mashed potatoes. The salad was fine, pretty basic. The potatoes were a pretty sizable amount and were fine too. What I really liked from the meal were their rolls and I think a zucchini bread or something like zucchini bread. Both surprisingly good. Also the service was great. Our waitress was really friendly, helpful and prompt. It’s a nice restaurant for family meals.

OK, so we took some time off from visiting family to take a side trip to New Hampshire to take in the foliage. On our way, we stopped to meet a friend for dinner. Homestead was the place and well… I wouldn’t rush back. The restaurant is very warm and nicely decorated inside with lots of seating. The problem is that you’re going there to eat, not just enjoy the surroundings. The staff was nice enough and our waitress was mostly attentive. My wife got the baked scallops which were smothered in cheese. You could say she got the baked cheese with scallops. It was just OK. The peas that came with her dish were very salty. I opted for the filet mignon and shrimp combo. That was a pretty good deal, but the steak was overcooked. The shrimp was good though. Our friend and her son got the chicken marsala and enjoyed it. Their peas weren’t salty so I’m not sure if there were two cooks, one who really loved salt or what. On our next visit to New Hampshire, I won’t be rushing to go back, but I wouldn’t avoid it if someone invited us and I couldn’t talk them into another place either.
