Best in Boston area. Healthy hair for all hair types and nice people. A couple of them trained with Olive(RIP) who was the best of the best. Very flexible too. I love this place.

This salon is a gem! Everyone was really friendly and professional. Tamia did a great job trimming and styling my natural hair. It was also was quite affordable. I highly recommend it!

Do not ever get a weave here. They bought synthetic hair and charged over a hundred dollars for it and the installation had my natural hair exposed everywhere. When I told them that the hair they bought for me was bad, they told me that it was my fault because I did not take care of it even though I was. I have since switched salons and now I take even less care of my weave. Yet it looks 100x better than when I did it here. However, they are very prompt and you will never wait past the appointment you made.

My daughter has now been here 4 times. The first time she was in desperate need of a trim. She is a competitive swimmer and is in the water a lot. I was happy with how well the treated her and how beautifully her hair came out. I was a little hesitant about a new person trimming her so I did not let them take too much off. The next time I will let them do whatever needs to be done. The last few time I’ve had her hair braided. We have been happy with the end result each time and the cost has been affordable. The upside is that I am able to get my nails done next door while she gets her hair done. Great place with great people who clearly care about my daughter and treat her wonderfully. She loves going here.

i went to universal an hour before they were closing to ask if they had time for a haircut– i was willing to schedule one, but the owner took me that day(i can’t remember her name, but as soon as i find her business card, i’ll update). i was going for a very drastic cut– from hair past my shoulders to a short, pixy cut with bangs. she cut my hair and tied it in rubber bands for me, because i let her know i was going to donate it. then, she washed it and«molded» it and put me under the dryer. this was the first time i had my hair molded… probably because i’ve never had hair this short. anyway, she put a lot of mousse and other product in my hair, and i normally don’t put anything more than a heat protector and a leave in conditioner. anyway, when i came from under the dryer, i realized why i don’t like putting a lot of product in my hair, but this isn’t her fault– this was her first time working on my hair, which has a unique texture– not totally curly, not totally kinky… it’s a weird in between. anyway, she curled the back of my hair, which was painful, since it was so short, and the iron was touching my scalp a lot– a sign that i would not be doing much heat styling with my new do. i really liked the look of the end product, but not so much the feel with all of the styling products. i did get a sample of moroccan oil which worked great in my hair. all in all, universal gets a 4 because they were very accommodating, and the cut turned out great. next time i go, i’ll be more vocal about not using a lot of product in my hair :)
