I would like to preface my review by stating that we(my husband and I) chose Mountain View Family Dental because they worked with our dental insurance and we felt we would be treated honestly and fairly. We were happy with our initial visit because they reviewed what would happen at each appointment and we received x-rays of our teeth. My husbands second visit went quite differently than the first. He was given a teeth cleaning, which is all he thought he was getting. Halfway through the cleaning the dental assistant showed him a paper of all services being given that day and, after insurance, the cost was $ 209! Looking back he wished he would’ve never signed that paper but at the time, he was laying on his back with a suction device in his mouth and drooling out the other side. I would think they would review these documents BEFORE the cleaning ever started. When he asked the assistant why it was so expensive she told him he was receiving a «deep cleaning» and these cost more. The entire visit took less than an hour and as far as he was concerned, they did nothing more than a normal cleaning. After requesting a receipt of services, we notice they charged for«nutritional counseling» and«oral hygiene instruction.» I would like to know why each of these would cost $ 60 each and when this actually happened during the visit??? Are you kidding me?!? The receipt also stated they«deep cleaned» or scraped 3TEETH at $ 197.00! What!?! Not only was this a shocker, but once he got to the receptionist to pay the bill, she said it would be $ 250. When my husband inquired as to why it was so much more she stated, «oh I’m sorry, we can do it for the $ 209.» So is everyone unaware of how much they are gouging people and ripping them off, even the people that work there? When you go for a teeth cleaning and expect to pay $ 40 – 50 for the cleaning and get hit with over $ 200, you know there is something wrong. Not only that, if we would not have had insurance the bill was over $ 800 just for the«deep cleaning» that took less than an hour. When my husband confronted Dr. Schmidt regarding the charge he indicated this is what he has to bill to insurance for the services. This is insurance fraud and a fraud to the community! I would like to know what a single mother or father would do if they took their child in for a cleaning and got hit with an $ 800 bill? How does that work? Very dissatisfied.
