Whole Dog Barkery and Paw Spa

I read about this place in a local magazine. There are no good dog boutique kind of places near me.
Luckily I’m not as snobbish and/​or never worked where people are in training, as the latter reviewer who gets their cat shaved. (Why have a cat if it needs shaved? That’s like taking your cat for walk on a leash. Weird.) I have a standard Dachshund who doesn’t need much grooming. So, I cant really comment on the grooming side of the business. While I was there though a woman came in and brought her dog early and they gladly took the dog in even though it was two hours before her appointment. The help was very accommodating.
Anyway, they had a really good selection of treats and they even carry the food I feed my dog, Avoderm, I totally recommend it to anyone. The help was very nice and the owner came out and greeted us and said hi to my dog who was there too.
They have all kinds of clothes and little things to carry your dog in with. My dog is a little to big for the clothing selections but we got a really cool leather collar that has green bones on it. Also, I’ve been looking for a type of lead that helps to stop your dog from pulling so hard when we go for walks and they had it.
I will definitely go back. I would recommend all those who live in Brentwood that have a dog to stop by. Support local business.

It’s taken me a couple days to be calm enough to write a review about this place.
We call and speak with a VERY nice (and what we thought was a) VERY knowledgeable lady last Friday night.
We inquired about getting our cat Dragon shaved here for the summer — his dreads are trendy but not hot summer friendly.
I am not sure if names can be dropped here or not so I’ll call the girl «T» — T says «oh yeah, bring your cat in anytime tomorrow for a shave you don’t need an appointment» And then she rattled off some great grooming prices and we said «ok, see you in the morning»
Saturday morning rolls around.
I load Dragon into his carrier — its about 11am and heating up. We haul his big cat body to the Barkery only to be told by some fork tongued counter help «we don’t do cats our groomer is allergic!» I’m like WTF??? Isnt that sort of like being an alcoholic and working in a bar? It just doesnt make sense to me.
A groomer allergic to cats??? So immediately I’m pissed! I ask if «T» is working and of course, she’s not.
The counter girl says «I don’t know how this could have happened» and I immediately tell her «oh, it happened because T is not thoroughly trained obviously»
Now, I understand mistakes happen — but c’mon I’m calling a groomer about a grooming job — how can you screw that up?
How do you not know that your groomer is allergic to and does not shave cats? That seems like a pretty important item if you ask me.
I copped an attitude, shook my head, said a couple things that I felt really drove my point home and walked outside.
When I walked in I noticed how clean the place was and could have have fun browsing the multitude of items they stock here — sadly, the staff is highly incompetent.
We found a groomer that actually grooms cats on our way home. Good price too. I will let you know how that goes next week.
