It’s like this: Being a New Yorker, I never had a reference point for what quality barbecue really was. I had the great privilege to visit Houston on business, and I decided that I was going to hit this place first on my barbecue crawl. After a week of intense training, I began my relaxing trip to Lockhart by stopping here on my way. Glad I did. Very unassuming joint on the outskirt’s of Brenham. I got out of the car and the smell of the smokehouse was heavenly. I knew I was in for a treat here. Got to the building, and there was a bit of a line, but not nearly what I expected. It was 11:30ish, and there was 5 or 6 people ahead of me. I was able to get food, and get a seat in the VERY small dining area. I really didn’t want to eat outside as it was stupidly hot and humid, so this was a bonus. I ordered a three meat plate with coleslaw and pinto beans. added some pickled onions for good measure. Settle at the corner table and set about to eating this gorgeous selection. Fatty brisket, ribs and cheddar jalapeño sausage. Just the smell and the appearance of this tray of food was enough to make me drool. The smoke ring on the brisket and the ribs, The coarse cut of the cole slaw, the cheese oozing out of the sausage ring. It was art to say the least. The brisket — Moist and tender with a nice complement of partially rendered fat. Cooked perfectly, and the peppery rub put just the right amount of heat underneath the big bold taste of smokey beef. The ribs — Again, cooked perfectly. Beautiful deep smoke ring. Bark like no other. Again, the rub was peppery and bold, but not so bold to overpower the pork flavor. Perfectly balanced flavors, fall off the bone goodness. The sausage — Beautiful texture. Nice snap. Nice smokey flavor. The combination of the melted cheddar and the jalapeño was absolute perfection. This I would definitely go back for over and over. Overall? This place is worth you time and effort to go and try. I doubt you will be disappointed.

BBQ was very greasy and fatty. Inside was very«dusty» and help was weak… no personality. Much better BBQ around Brenham

OMG yes! Definitely one of the top five BBQ places in the Austin AND Houston area! Off the chart smoke on the tender brisket and homemade sausage? Normally I don’t do sides at a BBQ place but the Mac and Cheese with real cheese and bacon(if you want it) and the corn pudding is excellent! Did I mention homemade cake? I can’t have it, but everyone that does raves about it. Between Austin and Houston this is a MUST stop!

I have been all over Texas. Small towns and big cities and taste all kinds of BBQ and lemme tell you, this is the best BBQ of all. I got me a moist brisket plate. The sides were coleslaw, colored greens, and some pickled onions. The brisket was uhhh-mazing. I just pour the BBQ sauce on it and BAM, the most delicious BBQ in town. They had some chocolate cake there that looked so delicious. The next time I’m coming back, I will be getting the beef ribs and chocolate cake. Definitely, you have to check it out. It’s worth it.

Very delicious BBQ. Recommend getting there at 11am when the place opens to avoid a big line. Got the 3 meat plate with turkey, Beef brisket, and pulled pork. In the side I got bacon Mac and cheese and the baked beans. All delicious. Would definitely recommend. Made a 2 hour drive to get there and definitely do not regret it. Try some of their cake as well, delicious too.

Amazing! A must try BBQ place! Lives up to the Texas standard and exceeds it as the great places do! As for now no need to get there super early since the lines doesn’t really form till it opens but once others realize how great this place is I see that changing. We got a $ 14.953 meat 2 side plate and 1lb of BBQ. Tried friends Turkey and Dino beef rib. Brisket– AMAZING! Dino Rib– AMAZING! Sausage– great Pork rib– great Turkey– good Corn– Amazing Mac and Cheese– good but the bacon on top was amazing BBQ sauce– Amazing! We also had some cake which is a must try. Huge piece for like $ 5.

The BBQ at TRUTH is good enough to keep Sherald Bell and his«DAMNDOG» from sitting in front of their smoker all weekend. My wife and I decided to get four different meats to see what tickled our fancy. The brisket and pork butt was very respectable. The pork ribs were just right. That corn pudding(casserole) is the things of legend. Seating outside is sufficient, if not a bit sloped. I’m really glad these folks took over this place and made it their own. It’s a fine addition to the community and one I hope to watch grow and succeed.

I happen to stumble onto Truth BBQ while I was browsing through Instagram. I instantly had to come onto Unilocal to see what people where saying about the barbecue. After reading some of the reviews, I already set my expectations of the place pretty high. I then looked them up on Facebook and had posted a question about about their schedule. I decided to head up there on a Sunday. Arrived about 10 minutes before they opened their doors. We were the 2nd person in line. Nice cozy spot with about 3 tables inside and tables outside. While I was in line, I hear Pit Master Leonard say«Mr. Gee»? I’m already impressed. I wanted to try as much as I could so I ordered the 3 meat plate consisting of marbled brisket, jalapeño sausage and pork rib. Also included in this $ 14.95 plate(I know, right? What a bargain!) are your choice of two sides. I decided on the corn casserole and mac&cheese with bacon bits. Make sure you also get their pickled onions and cucumbers which they pickle in-house. I’ve tried just about every top Texas BBQ restaurant in the great state of Texas(Franklin’s, La Barbecue, John Meuller, Snows, Killens, etc.) and Truth can definitely be mentioned in the same breath as those aforementioned. I think what impressed me most about the plate I ordered was the pork rib. IMO, there are very few places that can pull off smoking ribs. The Truth nailed it. And the corn casserole was to die for. I probably shouldn’t have finished it all because I damn near fell asleep on the way back home because I was so stuffed. Apparently, Truth has only been open for about 6 months. When word gets out about this place, I expect there will be long lines like the other greats. I will definitely be making another trek out there soon. I definitely want to try their collard greens on my next visit. And perhaps their turkey.

What can I say, I’ve tried most if not all of the critically acclaimed BBQ spots between Austin, Houston and the Brazos Valley. This place ranks right up at the top of the list. Excellent brisket(when you can eat it with no sauce you’re on to something. Ribs were just right, tender but still giving you something to tug off the bone and on this particular day they had smoked pork and cheese sausages. Not to be outdone by the barbeque, the side dishes were on point as well. I opted for the Mac and cheese along with pinto beans. I was graciously offered a sample of the collard greens and was pleasantly surprised at how good they were. I’ll get them next time as I intend to be a regular customer. Don’t sleep on this place

This place is goooooood. Small place with outdoor seating. Not a lot of seating inside so if you come on a beautiful day bring your sunscreen. In order of my favorites. Meats: Beef ribs — HUGE, tender and flavorful. You can only order by the pound so you will be sharing this or it will be the only meat you eat. Note-this cannot be a part of any of the meat plates. Jalapeño cheese sausage — juicy, cheesy and the right amount of spicy without being overwhelming. Brisket — this was a dryer than I was hoping BUT it still had good flavor. I recalling like the rub they use. Pork Ribs — these were good but not favorite. Sides: Potato Salad — traditional and creamy. Corn pudding — sweet and good. Baked beans — I liked these but they do have a little bit more of a tomatoey vinegar taste than most I’ve had. Mac & Cheese — with bacon chunks on top. Would have liked it to be a little more creamy. Overall it was great and would love to go back.

This place is a treasure. Have eaten at all the recognized top bbq restaurants in central Texas and Truth holds their own. Pork ribs were fantastic, probably the best I have ever eaten. Brisket had a great wood smoked flavor, but was a little fatty — but I ordered marbled brisket; I’d get the lean next time. Turkey was moist and tender not like turkey jerky at most other bbq places. Jalapeño cheese sausage was very good, but not a sausage person in general, so I’ll leave you to devise your own opinion on that. Corn pudding is my new favorite thing EVER. I just left and I already want some more. The nicest surprise was their homemade pickles. They reminded me of my Granny’s homeade pickles and that is the biggest compliment I could ever give anyone. If I had room for anymore food, I would have bought a slice of their homemade cake. It looked devine. Staff was beyond friendly and helpful as well. I have a feeling this little place will need to expand as they are going to blow up. We will definitely be returning here. Thanks so much!

This place was pretty awesome. Stopped off while driving through Brenham looking for blue bonnets and pretty glad we did. Parking can be a bit of work if they’re busy, and it seems they might always be. The building itself is pretty small with a few tables inside, a counter where they cut and weigh the meat and another end to the counter where you pay and the cakes stare at you. Those cakes were pretty big looking but I was here for the meat. Sadly a guy 2 orders in front of me got the last beef rib, but I did get to try the brisket which was juicy and delicious. Definitely required zero sauce, but that was tasty too. Wife has the truth potato which was ENORMOUS. So anyway after you order, you wait to grab your food then head outside to find a picnic table. The sides I had were both good, the coleslaw and potato salad. Finally their pickled goods pretty much sealed the deal and if all of the above isn’t enough to convince you, they offer free lonestars to anyone of age! Will definitely be back to try again in the future!

I got a hit from my kinfolk in Austin about this place being open and he wanted me to inspect it the next time I came through. Well today was that go go gadget day and it’s a vegetarian’s hell but a carnivore’s Heaven! This place has some real character, it’s right off 290 but you feel more like you’re in the hill country or ATX. The owners and workers are very nice and you can tell that they care about their baby(the restuarant). It’s been open for about 6 months now and seems like business is doing good. I can see this place becoming the next Franklin’s, Mickelwait’s, Killen’s, or Corkscrew. When we arrived at 2pm on Saturday they ran out of pork, pork ribs, and sausage, but still had what I really came for, the brisket and beef rib. Both the brisket and beef rib had the perfect amount of char on them combined with the perfect amount of seasoning and fat. I opted for the marbleized brisket vs the lean, I mean come on we all want the juicy stuff, right? For the sides I chose the collard greens and potato salad and each complimented the BBQ very well. I didn’t care too much for the sauce but then again, I always say that great BBQ doesn’t need sauce and this is great BBQ fasho. Homemade pickles and onions are also available. I noticed that they also carry homemade cakes: German chocolate, carrot cake, and yellow cake with chocolate frosting are what I observed but being gluten intolerant my investigation was halted but they looked amazing though and very fresh. Everything is prepared fresh daily and you can taste it too. This is truly a down south Texas establiment in the making and will become a hometown/state legend! Ummmmm… Blue Bell Ice Cream and great BBQ, Brenham, TX oooohhhhh how lucky are you!

I’m a sucker for roadside BBQ and so glad we stopped by this place. You’ll get real authentic smoked BBQ unlike those franchised restaurants. They make everything themselves including their delicious bread, side dishes and desserts. We tried 4 types of meats, turkey, brisket, sausage and ribs. They’re all good, but the ribs and turkey were exceptional. The sauce is on the thin side for me, but to each his own. Highly recommended!
