They need to hire more waiters. Food was good but having to wait for the check 30 minutes took away from the experience. She was a good waiter she just needs help.

Not friendly. It is seat yourself but no one tells you. Fish tacos very bland. Dont try to engage waitress in conversation or ask for suggestions. Overrated by other reviewers in my opinion. Husband’s chicken salad sandwich was blah. I am sure there are better places to eat in town than this.

5 stars every time. Food is fresh and creative. Always have new options and specials that are tasty. Been here for larger family events and they go all out to make it really special.

My husband and I stopped here today while we went to the Brenham antique and flea show. It’s an awesome, unique place with lots of art and neat things adorning the walls. We both had a salad and shared the Farm to table root, beet soup. It was so good! He had a raspberry cream soda which was yummy(my fav) and I tried the raspberry hibiscus tea, also good. I had heard about this place through friends and will certainly be back!

Normally Unilocal doesn’t steer me wrong but this was a total disappointment. The main issue was the temperature of the food — which was cold. It appeared the food was pre cooked, then refrigerated, then microwaved and maybe they either don’t have the microwave time down correct, or they might have just completely forgot to microwave it altogether. We had the adult grilled cheese(based on Unilocal recommendations) and it was cold in the middle. I also had the tortellini soup, which had like 2 tortellinis in it. My mother had the special which we have been joking ever since that it was warmed up fancy feast cat food. Anyway, this is seriously the absolute worst meal I have had in a long long time. The only bright side was the server was really really nice.

We came here for lunch based on the positive reviews. There were 3 in our party and each of us has issues with our food not being properly heated(every single one of our dishes had something that was ice cold in it.) I had the grown up grilled cheese with bacon and the rice pilaf. The exterior of the sandwich was toasted and warm, but the interior was cold. The rice pilaf was also ice cold, so much so that I thought for a minute maybe it was supposed to be. The service was nice, so that was a redeeming quality. But inedible food makes this a place I will not return to. We left and went somewhere else. I am so sad this restaurant didn’t live up to its reviews.

Have had a few salads here and just LOVE the Siam salad. Hope they keep it on the menu forever. If you like peanut sauce, you must try this!

Visited this place and ordered the pumpkin burger to see what everyone was ranting and raving about. Eh, it was good, but not out of this world good. Lots of options on the menu to suit anyone’s fancy. My husband ordered the Farm to Fork chorizo burger and that was tasty, but fruit served with a burger? Where are the french fries?! Mom ordered chicken salad sandwich and it was a little dry and lacked flavor. Atmosphere is quirky and fun. Waitress was very nice and welcoming. Pretty affordable. Overall, our visit was good. We would come here again.

This was a nice little pit stop on the way from Austin to Houston before getting some Blue Bell ice cream. Wait staff is super nice and super helpful answering questions and making recommendations. I had the chicken salad with fruit and a maple syrup balsamic dressing. The chicken salad was quite moist and paired well with the greens and their home made dressing.

The pumpkin burger is beyond delicious. If i could for another, i would! Service is nice and friendly. I can’t think… my mind is still on that pumpkin burger. It’s why we came here, and I’m so satisfied.

They don’t stay open long, but the food is good. Not a fan of the location being inside of a store, but that can be dealt with. The food and wait staff are quite nice, if go here again if my first two options we’re closed. Although with this place being open until two, it’s likely they wouldn’t get to provide their tasty treats in my taste buds :)

This is as offbeat as a restaurant gets. With an eclectic menu, farm to fork specials, and made from scratch soups and desserts, this is casual dining at its best. My wife had the beef Bolognese, which was served on a bed of zucchini noodles. Really tasty. I had the grilled cheese with bacon — ask them to add the blue cheese to the sandwich. The meal was capped with the desserts — Mocha chocolate cupcake for her, key lime bread pudding for me. Both were outstanding. Great service, and good food. What more could you ask for?

Outstanding gem of a restaurant in the lovely town of Brenham, Texas. Thank you Unilocal for leading us here. Very eclectic décor and filled with locals, this restaurant abuts a kitchen furnishings store that sells art and interesting kitchen items not found generally. Waitstaff was prompt, courteous and humorous. But, the real reason to go to a restaurant is the food, right? Well, Funky Art Café does it right! Their extensive menu caters to all tastes with imaginative combinations of sandwiches, soups, salads, wraps and hot items. I had the«Club» and my partner in crime had the Laura Bush avocado chicken salad. Both were wonderful, filling, well made, well seasoned and well presented. What more could you ask? Prices were reasonable and we got out of there with dessert and coffee for about $ 30. Well worth a drive up to Brenham just to have lunch at the Funky. They close at 2pm so plan your visit carefully. We got there about 1:30 and the place was still packed. Every customer was greeted as family and I think most of them probably were family! Great place, great food, great location and I can’t say too much about Funky. We’ll be driving up there again sooner than later.

Great spot. Crab cakes, Asian lettuce wrap, Italian wedding soup & the Award Winner sandwich were all perfect. Nice place to shop, too.

We absolutely loved everything about this place! My husband and I were driving back to Houston after attending a wedding in Austin, and needed a lunch break. We eat Paleo and really wanted to find something healthy, locally sourced, and delicious. We found all of this at the Funky Art Café. My husband had the purple plate special; a baked sweet potato stuffed with tons of veggies, free range chicken, and topped with bacon and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar. He absolutely loved it, and is still raving about it days later. I had the Sound of Music II: a spinach salad topped with two pan-seared goat-cheese cakes, cranberries, pecans, red onion, and yummy vinaigrette. Those goat-cheese cakes were the stuff of my dreams! Top the great food off with fantastic, friendly service, very reasonable prices, and a fun, funky atmosphere, and we have found our regular stop when we travel from Houston to Austin. We can’t wait to return.

Oh myyyyyyy! This is the cutest place with an eclectic menu — and I mean that in the best, most delicious way! We shared the Warm Bacon Beer Cheese Spread to start — yummy on the crostinis! For the main, I had the half chicken salad sandwich on the best homemade bread and a cup of the artichoke cheddar soup. That soup can follow me home and keep me warm at night! Our server Lauren was a huge help in our selections and had a smile as big as Texas! We love this place and highly recommend it!

Ate lunch here during a recent girls day trip. It was a recommendation from a local friend. I was in love with the name, art, and café feel. Large menu with local flavor and seasonal elements. Menu also contains WW point menu items. We a corn dip appetizer from the WW menu, served with veggies. A pumpkin burger, pimento cheese, and the chef special: Beef Bourguignon! The special was the star of the show, second place the pumpkin burger, and third place was the pimento cheese sandwich. Both the burger and sandwich came with great house made chips. Great small town lunch spot. Connected to a gift shop and coffee store.

One of the blue bell staff recommend this little gem. At first I was a little skeptic dining here… Looked quite odd… I guess when they say don’t judge a book by its cover, don’t judge it. We had the adult grilled cheese, buffalo pulled pork, turkey burger, lettuce wrap. It was all delicious & unique Flavors! The waitress was super nice & welcoming. Funky art is connected with the pomegranate gift shop? It’s a gift shop. kinda like a mix of Macy’s dining China, sur la table kitchen, and barista bar up front. Quite interesting.

Plus half a star This place it’s a fun little funky décor. Really niche old concrete floors with exposed brick. Really fun and inviting similar to eating in a hid-a-way spot in the village area of NYC The spinach artichoke dip is out of this world. Highly recommend. Sadly I ate it too fast to get a pic. The pumpkin burger is nice. Soft veggie texture with a hint of Mexican flavor. Nice sandwich well put together. The buffalo pig was okay. The pork had a nice tenderness with a good buffalo sauce on it. The blu cheese on the other hand was a little over powering. Next time I’ll try with the feta cheese option. Nevertheless the warm environment and welcoming fun atmosphere is always nice. Very good café spot would recommend.

I forgot to do this review but first off I must say I’m a hardcore carnivore! Please don’t hate on me vegans! I’m not a vegan or vegetarian but I was in the mood for a burger that wouldn’t put me to sleep since I was stuck about 70 miles from home for about 8 hours. So I decide to get the New Mexican Pumpkin burger. OMG food like this could convert me to a vegetarian and I bet convert vegans at least to vegetarians. Seriously!!! This burger was like awesome manna from the Heavens. It had the most delicious taste which consisted of pumpkin, wild rice, corn, jalapeño, cilantro, jack cheese on a whole wheat bun w/chipotle sour cream spread, avocado, lettuce and tomato. Plus you get a side of fruit or another option. The flavors incredibly melded together and I experienced my first vegetarian foodgasm here. Never thought that was possible!!! So give it a try! They need to patent that burger patty. Oh just about all the food sounds Funky in this place. I watched a neighboring table get excited about a chicken salad which IMO didn’t look to funky though but obviously they were happy. If you’re out in the Brennan or Washington area give this restaurant a try. I read all the Unilocal reviews for the area and it was excellent funky food with a funky atmosphere which it did live up to. FYI lunch time can get really packed. Luckily I got the last table. Vegans and Carnivores I dare you!!!
