This place is literally in the middle of nowhere… and yet they seem to stay busy and have a nice crowd whenever we go there. My wife and I discovered it by accident a few years ago when we were out on a drive to take landscape photos. We’ve been back several times, and watched them grow over the years. They are located in an old general store, in a little crossroads town that still has several(other) historic buildings preserved there. They now have a covered patio area, and often have live music. They offer a nice variety of tasty foods(from cheese & crackers to pizza to a delicious chicken & cheese panini-type thing… maybe it WAS a panini… I can’t recall… but it was DElicious). Their wines are quite amazing… the Brazeau Blend is our absolute favorite. They also have various beers and sodas available. If you go on a slow day, it’s possibly the most peaceful place you’ve ever been. On a busy day, it’s still not too crowded, and it’s always been a friendly crowd. Take the plunge and make the drive… you won’t be disappointed!

Fabulous place with a friendly, laid back atmosphere. Have great live music on most weekends and a nice patio. They have inside seating for winter months(check out their website — ) Hemman Winery is located in Brazeau, a tiny SEMO town that my stepdad’s mom grew up in. Visit the museum, blacksmith shop, tea house/B&B, and the church — so peaceful. Check out the barber shop in the back left corner of the winery — my stepdad used to get his haircut there(by Hemman’s late owner) when he was a little boy :) I’ve had their Blueberry, Strawberry, Blackberry and most recently the Cranberry — all great wines! All wines are reasonably priced, they have non-fruit wines and beer as well. Bring a picnic basket with your favorite goodies or get their ‘Front porch special’ — piece of Oberle dog, ½ log of garlic cheese, sleeve of Ritz crackers and a bottle of wine. YUM! They also sell wine-making supplies and some wine inspired gifts(wine racks, t-shirts, etc.), which is great for such a small place. It’s a great Sunday drive — take the trip, you won’t be disappointed :)
