Food is mediocre. They have too many items on their menu to actually do any of them really well. We called in an order and went to pick it up(having only a half hour for lunch) and when we got there we still had to wait in the order line, which took 20+minutes. Would be helpful if they had a pick up window for those who previously called in. Chicken burrito was plain and had little to no flavor. They do make a good Mac and Cheese, but overall the food wasn’t worth the wait.

This is a small mom and pop grill. You can take it to go or eat outside overlooking the river. Pleasant temperature so I opted to stay and eat outside. About thirty other People were doing the same. I got the fried tempeh with sesame seeds and a chipotle ranch dressing on top of a salad. Very tasty. The Rosemary potatoes were not as good as they sounded. This is the reason for the four stars and not five. The root beer was excellent! Recommended.

I cant’ believe that I didn’t review this place last year. It’s a great BBQ join in Brattleboro. The portions are hearty and reasonably priced. I always order the jambalaya, which is nice and spicy. My husband got the brisket plate, which comes with baked beans, coleslaw, and cornbread. I love the baked beans; some of the best beans that I’ve eaten. The cornbread is good too. The best part of Top of the Hill Grill is the wonderful outdoor patio with its great view. I love that it’s dog-friendly so our puppy can sit by our feet looking hopefully that we would«drop» some food.

I was pretty disappointed with this place the prices were high and portion size was small. Location is nice with mostly outdoor seating and nice views and it is a counter service restaurant. As for the food I did not think much of the BBQ the brisket was a little chewy and little to no smoke flavor and no smoke ring at all. Pulled pork was on dry side and again not much smoke flavor side www not much better. I love my BBQ but this place left me pretty disappointed I will try it one more time but I am not hopeful Cheers

Top of the Hill Grill! Grill? I thought they smoked their meats… I went there for the grass-fed cheeseburger and the burnt ends with mac and cheese! Cheeseburgers and BBQ hold a special place in my heart. It was a Saturday afternoon, couple weeks ago by now, and they had NOBURNTENDS and NOGRASSFEDBEEF! «Are you ****ing kidding me?» I thought. My heart palpated and I felt my face get hot. I had just driven an hour and half for some BBQ and you got nothing I burn for desire with?! I’m now on the spot. I’m pissed and sad at the same time. «BBQ pulled pork» pops into my head. OH and the catfish! I walk away, sit down and stare off into sadness. I think, «hey at least I can try their pulled pork and catfish.» I am sorry that I did. The pulled pork was DRYYYYYYYY. The bun that accompanied this dry meat was also DRYYYYYY. I went to the counter for more BBQ sauce. The sauce was definitely ketchup based and had no authenticity to its flavor. I pushed the pulled pork aside after more bites than I should have given that BBQ Dry Sandwich. It also had no smokey flavor. Top of the Hill, you committed a sin to the BBQ world. The catfish was interesting but honestly, I was so disappointed in my BBQ experience that the catfish was like having a hot-dog at a steakhouse! I don’t think I’ll be back here again :( TIP: I would recommend Bub’s BBQ in Sunderland, exit 21 off 91-N, for their very moist meats, having food in stock the 10+ times I’ve been there AND their flavorful BBQ sauces to douse all over their *grilled* meats!

My bf and I were on the road to New Hampshire when we stopped by this nice spot. We drove by so many places but I was craving BBQ, so I held out while I search for a good place. I found this location through Unilocal and decided to give it a try. Oh boy, I’m glad that we picked this place to have our lunch because the view was incredible. Ordered: Me — I had the BBQ pork ribs and this was good not great. The ribs were on the dry side and the sauce was good. I wish the ribs would fall off the bones but it didn’t. BF — He got the beef brisket and said that it was okay. He had better brisket. The wedding we were attending in New Hampshire had this place catered for them. The ribs were better at the wedding than when I first tried it. The corn is delicious. Overall, I like the atmosphere and the food is good. However, for the price that we were paying I would go somewhere else for better BBQ. At least it satisfied my BBQ cravings.

Good is ok but for the price and quality I would not consider returning due to wait times and lack of inside dining space.

Bloody delicious stuff and I’m not that much of a «grill» person. Cool little hand made menus on paper plates describe the dishes and everything is priced to be easily agreed upon. They have their own soda they make(and it’s great btw) in addition to delicious and slightly spicy rice they side many of the dishes. So far I’ve had the Grilled Catfish, fish tacos and pulled pork sliders and haven’t been disappointed. Beautiful view overlooking some kind of waterway. Definitely back soon. Only drawback is yellow jackets trying to drink my soda for me, but it is what it is when you go out in to the forest to eat.

If you’re a fan of serious bbq from all over the South, as I am, don’t hesitate to go. Burnt ends were bangin’, the sides were tasty and the view over the idyllic Vermont landscape was a lovely backdrop to a delicious meal. Wish I had more than the day-and-a-half to try it more than twice(gonna try to go back tonight with friends, heheh). If I don’t update this review, it already has my stamp of approval!

I never cared for barbecue until my uncle said I had to try this place, and now I’m hooked! Their combination plates are amazing! The ribs, sausage, pork, chicken — everything is incredible, and you get a LOT for the price! Every time I go to Vermont(which is at least 3 – 4 times per year) I HAVE to stop at Top of the Hill Grill; otherwise I consider my trip unsuccessful. Oh, and get the baked beans!

Great view over the pond, very relaxing, like we were on an awesome picnic. Food is good, we had the shredded pork in bbq sauce, brisket, and ¼ chicken. Not a lot of smoke flavor, tasted more like they were oven cooked, but nonetheless flavorful, and tender. Beans were good, got the impression they were canned beans with some Bbq sauce thrown on, which is fine but would be better if they sautéed up some onion and a little bell pepper, many mixed in some regular chili beans too… Cornbread average, throw a can of creamed corn into your cornbread mix and give it a little flair. Coleslaw needs a little salt, a little vinegar. Had no flavor aside from watery cabbage. Great house labeled root beer. Overall an enjoyable experience and would visit again especially with some tweaks.

My cousin chose this place for us to meet up as the midpoint between his home in Portsmouth NH and mine near South Glens Falls NY. The line of people waiting to order was a good sign. Turned out to be a great choice. The pulled pork was excellent and the people serving and running the place were friendly. Seating is outdoors and the view was great, but there’s also a covered area. Not too far from the interstate and highly recommended for a visit if the weather is nice. Otherwise you can always do take away. Will definitely return when next passing by.

This review pains me to write– were usually big fans of Curtis right up the street. But I have to admit this place was pretty good. If they had Curtis’ Carolina sauce it would be perfection(is it heresy to byobbq sauce?) The good– heated porch was nice this time of year and I suspect the outdoor area would be very pretty during the summer. The ribs were pretty bangin and the chicken we got was pretty great too. Brisket was meh– but certainly wasn’t bad. Greens were awesome. Menu was also pretty accommodating for vegetarians tho we didn’t try any of it(what’s the point??? Lol) The bad– Very slow service considering we were one of 3 couples and bbq should basically be done before they take your order. Not a huge fan of sweet BBQ sauce… But that’s a preference. The ugly– Woman who took our order was a supreme begotch… We wanted burnt ends and they didn’t have it so god forbid we took 2 more min to figure out our deal(no one else was there). Gave us a Liz lemon epic eye roll… Slammed the order window shut. Lost a star for that alone. The other lady was nice and the gentleman was very friendly.

When you see Curtis’ BBQ in Putney, pass it, and keep driving another 6 – 8 miles into Brattleboro to Top of the Hill Grill. The prices, food, and scenery are much better. It’s a small roadside stand perched atop a tall steep hillside overlooking scenic ponds. The seating area has like a tree house like aspect about 20 – 30 feet above the ground. It’s a very cool atmosphere with bluegrass playing while you’re sitting high up among the trees. The menu is pretty expansive with tons of options. I ordered the combo plate which gave me a bit of everything. My wife ordered the chicken fajita. The verdict. Ribs were thick and meaty, tender with a nice sauce. Baked beans were decent, as was the brisket and chicken. The coleslaw was bland, and needed salt & pepper. My wife’s chicken fajita was average, but was seasoned good. Overall, very cool place to visit. The BBQ is much better than Curtis’. They also take credit cards which is very convenient.

Great stop in Brattleboro for BBQ whether you are traveling north or south on I91. More than worth the five minutes off exit 3. The brisket is top notch(this coming from a true southerner). You don’t find this kind of food in New England often… They have a variety of sandwiches and combo platters to choose from, all of which look to be quality cuts home cooked with love. The view from this place is spectacular. Indoor/outdoor seating in a very unique setting. Bring your dog! They are welcome too :).

We stopped by here on a recent rainy Friday evening. The line wasn’t that bad and there was ample seating under the tent. I went with a smoke pulled pork tortilla rollup. The pork was cooked perfectly and had a nice smokey taste to it. I liked the bbq sauce used as well. The portion size was pretty good. It looked short on the plate, but it was stuffed pretty darn good. My wife opted for the salad with smoked turkey. The turkey stole the show. Outstanding. I fancy myself as an amateur cook when it comes to BBQ smoking; the turkey nailed it. We went with two sides: Coleslaw and baked beans. The beans were perfect. They had a nice blend of flavor and hint of sweet. They also had a bit of meat mixed in for flavor. The coleslaw was good. Very fresh, but could have used a bit more dressing. I found it a little dry. Try the root-beer! It’s their own brand it it’s way better than what you’ll get from the national brands. A great spot to eat as well. The view would be nice on a sunny day/evening. It’s a little pricey for what you get. But then again, what you get is good.
