After my last disaster at Zona Weymouth where the«stylist»(and I say that term loosely) decided layering my thick hair was taking thinning shears and slashing away random pieces, I decided to give Zona the middle finger and went in search of a new stylist. I came across Cathy at Arnold Wayne through Groupon. The experience itself was kind of wonky and Cathy is a bit quirky. Called the number that came with the Groupon(which was her personal number), got VM, and never got a call back. Upon looking up the address, I called the salon’s main line and was able to set up my appointment. Got there early and there was no one at the salon. Called Cathy and she came within 3 minutes(was somewhere across the street). She’s nice and extremely chatty. I understand small talk, but it becomes annoying when she is answering calls in the middle of my appointment and spending excess of 5 minutes each time with the person on the other line(I don’t fault her for answering cause she was a one woman show, but brevity would have been nice). My cut was simple and my one request was to layer out my thick hair. It didn’t turn out as light as I had hoped, but Cathy delivered on the length and, when I noted a particular spot that the Zona stylist butchered, she pushed back on why she didn’t want to cut too much. Her reasoning made sense and when I pulled my hair back today, immediately noticed that I no longer have all those funky chopped up layers. All in all, I’m pleased and am willing to go back to see what Cathy can do when not fixing someone else’s mess. Oh and the regular price of a cut($ 35) is the same as the Groupon so you really aren’t getting a deal. But, you probably figured that considering it said the value was $ 70 and Braintree is no Back Bay.

Cathy Beaudoin is a Great hairdresser all around. She does great styles and her hair coloring skills are amazing. Keeps great records of color mixes. I trust her enough to try new colors and my hair comes out great every time. I walk out and get tons of compliments. I’ve sent many friends to her that were all satisfied. Cathy also does a great job fixing bad dye jobs. Did I mention what a great, sweet person Cathy is? Trust me. Go see Cathy

Initially, I had really great experiences here with a male stylist. I found them via a Groupon, and they had pretty good reviews(the few that were there). I went to see him 4 times(cut, color, keratin). Location wise, this was relatively convenient and he was so personable and accommodating — even offered me a 7 pm appointment for keratin, which takes ~3 hours total. He said he was part owner, so it was weird when I called and found out he left. ***sigh*** I thought I had finally found a replacement for my Boston stylist who moved to Brazil… I’m pretty flexible, so I thought I’d give the female stylist Cathy a try. Epic fail. First, she won’t take a credit or debit card. Ummm… it’s 2015, right? I don’t know how many people walk around with +$ 200 on them, but I don’t. I don’t even HAVE a checkbook anymore, as all bills are paid online or by debit card(Hello??? 2001 is calling and wants it’s fax machine back, too! lol). No, seriously. They always took credit cards before(of course, I tip in $$ and on the full value of the service). So it’s just this ONE stylist, evidently, which is weird. I totally get she has to pay a fee/% for the credit card service — so fine, up the price and then offer a discount(equal to the fee) for paying by $ — I’d happily pay the little bit extra for the convenience(and YES that is legal/doesn’t violate the credit card agreement the salon must sign to accept cards). But we all know that’s not why folks in the service business won’t take a credit card… that pesky IRS wants their cut and a credit card transaction leaves an audit trail. But kudos to her that she at least told me up front, so I wasn’t surprised when I went to pay(THAT would have pissed me off, big time). So, payment methods aside… the service was lousy. She was very abrupt on the phone when I first called, but I could tell she was busy(generally a good sign, right?), so that’s cool. Or maybe she just had a bad day — whatever. If she’s good, I’ll put up with a little bit of a ‘tude. But noooooo… she was rude/abrupt in person as well, rough with my hair and a little condescending as well. Now I don’t pay for girl talk or to be buddies with a stylist, but behaving in a professional manner is important and that was lacking. My hair came out OK(too short), but the entire experience was unpleasant. I really don’t understand how she has all these great recommendations — maybe I caught her on a bad day or something? Not sure. But I’m not willing to give her, or this place, another try.

I always get my hair done by Cathy and she always does a phenomenal job! I got a foil and a Keratin treatment this time and it came out great. Cathy is funny, personable, and professional. She always takes her time and I love how my hair comes out! I went to her a few years ago when I colored my hair myself and it came out this crazy color and she had to fix it… Needless to say since that day Cathy has been the only person I will let touch my hair. I highly recommend her for anything from a simple blow out to something difficult like a color repair. Cathy’s your girl!

Fully recommend Cathy as the haircut she gave me a couple of months ago is the best I’ve ever gotten. I’ve easily tried 10 different places around Quincy and now I’ve found a salon that I’m happy with. I got a keratin treatment, ombré highlights and haircut. Cathy stayed until 10pm to finish all of this and we even ordered pizza which we ate as we waited for the color to settle. Now when I dry my hair, it’s so much easier to style and I pretty much need to do nothing to have it looking good. I’ve never had that before! Overall, I completely recommend Cathy and all the staff in Arnold Wayne were incredibly friendly.

So glad my girlfriend recommended Cathy. After several hair colorist duds… Cathy managed to make my head«color happy». She is super friendly, down to earth and attentive. She keeps a record of the color combinations used on my hair — which is a plus for the next visit. She makes sure I am completely satisfy with the results. Awesome hair treatment without breaking the piggybank. She is running several new client specials. Definitely, worth a shot.

My best friend and I have been coming here to see our hairdresser, Cathy for a while. Why do you ask? She’s the only one that can get that perfect color to stay on our very straight hard-to-dye Asian hair :) Super personable, you feel immediately at ease as soon as you sit in her chair. Its like chatting with a good friend and next thing you know, you’re done and walking away with a gorgeous mane. Tip: she’s got an awesome Unilocal deal if you’re a first time customer and you check in so do give her a try if you’re local. You won’t regret it.
