Jackie is very talented, she listens to what you say, as well as makes thoughtful suggestions. I’ve had my hair cut around the world, but never more happy than to be sitting in her chair. All my friends notice the difference in my hair cut. Lovely.

Joan has been cutting our sons hair since his 3^rd haircut so he has grown up with her. Always an awesome experience. Cannot say enough excellent things about Theory!

My husband and I both go to ALICE at Theory. She is amazing!!! She listens very carefully to what you ask for and is very detailed and meticulous in her cutting. I would say she goes the extra mile to make my hair cut/​style exactly as expected every time so it feels like an excellent value. My husband was just going to a barber before, but wasn’t liking the quality of cut he was getting. He now loves Alice and goes more often than I do! The salon is not too girly for him, and he can get the style that is exactly what he communicates. I would HIGHLY recommend her!

I don’t know why it took me so long to get around to this, but this is my happy place. I’ve had my haircut by Cori for two years and she’s just the best. I used to have really long hair and wanted to try a pixie cut. Understandably nervous, I asked around because I didn’t want to let just anyone hack off all my hair. Theory kept coming up, and when I called I was happily scheduled with Cori and now I wouldn’t go anywhere else. She really listens to what you want, but also understands hair so if you’re talking crazy, she’ll gently point it out. She’s also funny and friendly and fun to be around. The salon is in a really great old building, the music always makes me happy, and I find the coolest things in the gift shop. Worth every penny, won’t ever leave (unless Cori retires).

I don’t normally write reviews, but I was highly disappointed with haircut that I received from Jackie. Jackie is really a sweet girl, but I felt like she didn’t listen to what I really wanted in a cut. My friends couldn’t believe how bad of a haircut I received from this salon. My husband even noticed it and men do not normally notice those things – that’s how bad it was. The only reason that I didn’t call to complain is because there is nothing that they could do to fix it. I just need to keep it in a ponytail and let it grow back out again. I really expected more from a highly rated salon.

My experience did not live up to my expectations. First, my hairstylist did not have enough time to see me before I was shuffled away to have my hair washed. As a new client I would have expected some discussion about my hair before wetting it. I understand this could have been a one time occurrence and theory salon to its credit –is really busy. Then the stylist proceeded to dry my hair before cutting it. That struck me as odd too. I’ve never had that happen before. I asked for a good trim and layering. The trim was good, but when the stylist started to shear layers into my hair with the blade of the scissor, I was terrified. The layers turned out horrible. I’m sorry I didn’t express my concerns during the cut, but I expected better from such a highly reviewed salon.

I just received a beautiful hair cut from Cori! She was laid-​back and very attentive to my hair. I really appreciated the time and care she took while giving me a cut – I have very thick hair and she made it feel light, healthy and thin. I’m always a little apprehensive that my thick hair will look like a mushroom when I get it cut shoulder-​length, but she did an excellent job. No mushroom in sight :) Even though it’s an upscale salon, I’m willing to budget for their prices because they truly deliver and have the skills to back up what they charge. Thanks, Theory!
Oh, and they also have a great gift shop that is worth checking out!

I travel A LOT, and Unilocal is my saving grace. I was in town last year and disappointed I couldn’t synch up with Theory. Thankfully, I’m here for six months. The rave about the salon and stylists is accurate. Cori did an amazing cut and hi/​lo light on my hair follicles. She pulled out the weight to give the natural movement I desired. The color is second to none. Anyone can be trained to cut hair, but a stylist comes from within. Cori is such a stylist. I watched the others and the product coming out of the chair. I don’t think you will go wrong. They hold each other to the same standard. Who knows? We may have to settle here full time just for my ego! Is it spendy? Yea a little but why drop money for a lousy style/​color when you can strut your stuff?!

Wasn’t sure to do a one or two but went with two because I feel I just had an isolated bad time. Hate my hair. I donated 10.5 inches and had plenty to work with afterwards and it looks like a frumpy mom and I’m 24. Not what I asked for. I wasn’t asked how i style my hair or how I wanted it to be styled. We sat in silence the whole time as everyone around me was chatting having fun. I had to keep conversation with her and then gave up. Think the hairdresser was having a bad day or assumed I wasn’t worth the effort because I had been growing out my hair for the last year, to donate in memory of a friend I lost to cancer. I literally cried about how ugly it was after wards and it is by no means short or was I in shock of losing the length. It was just plain ugly. The courtesy call about her running late was considerate but cutting my time shorter (maybe 20 minutes total to cut and ‘style’ and by style I mean blow it dry) because she was running behind was not fair. UGLY. 55 $ down the drain and it pained me to tip her 15 $ (just to prove myself basically because I felt judged) so being out 70 $ on a ugly haircut was painful.

I just LOVE theory. I have been seeing Deanna for a few years and she always does an awesome job! She recently suggested I put some coral highlights in and I absolutely love them.

I’ve been in Bozeman a month and relied on reviews to lead me to a good salon. My appointment was with AJ. I am so happy! I have thick, wavy hair that I am growing out. And I have lots of gray coming in. I didn’t really want all over color. She gave me exactly what I hoped for! The cut was A+. Even though not a lot of length came off, she really brought it to life. Love the way my hair moves! And she did highlights and low lights to blend the gray. I absolutely love it!!! The girl knows what she’s about! Thank you!

I get great service, both Brittney and and Cori have given great hair cuts. Love the art and funky music. You might forget your in Montana for half an hour.

Yep. I’m following suit. 5 stars it is! I called on a Monday and got in the following Saturday with Deanna. She offered me water, tea, coffee, a beer! I told her in a few words what I wanted done and she worked her magic — my hair was (IS!) done amazingly! Another bonus — Deanna gave me the most glorious neck/​head massage! SO pleased.
Things that could make it better:
–Top notch and so worth every penny spent.

This is the second time I have seen Deana, she is amazing! First I went from long hair to medium, then from medium to short, and both haircuts were fantastic! I have gotten so Many compliments on my short hairstyle I am completely in love! I also love the atmosphere and everyone is very friendly. The head massages are expert, I think it has to do with their Bumble and Bumble training. Definitely would recommend a hair cut at Theory!

Joan gave me a great haircut and style! She listened well and took my styling preferences and hair texture under consideration. I have fine-​textured, straight hair that I wear in long layers at shoulder-​length.
The $ 35 price was extremely reasonable compared to what I’ve paid in the past in Denver and Indianapolis. I would definitely recommend Joan and Theory Salon to other people.

Katie is the best. There is no other person in this world that I trust to touch my hair except my cousin who is also an amazing hair professional in L.A.
Katie for the North West and my cousin for the West Coast. The only two ladies allowed to touch my hair. The only two ladies that know how to cut and style and tame the war that is my hair.
Katie is always delivering 10.5 out of 10.0 haircuts and is a phenomenal person to boot. Just flat out awesome!

I was in dire need of a much «overdue» haircut, even before recently relocating to Bozeman. Therefore, one of the first things on my to-​do list, after getting all settled in, was to find an amazing stylist and salon in the area. And that’s just what I did… check the box on that one!
Katie is awesome! She’s a Bozeman native and keeps herself current w/​all the newest techniques and fads, and she does this by traveling to the «big» cities for classes and/​or internships. She’s also a pleasure to chat with and makes you feel completely at ease.
Theory itself is a pretty awesome spot too. It’s very industrial/​vintage as far as décor goes. It’s really a great little space that’s been there for at least 5 years, according to Katie.
I’m looking forward to returning for color and highlights, and I’m anxious to see what else Katie can do!

I would go back for sure. I loved the products and and prices for a hair cut. The salon is industrial looking, and I think they are currently remodeling, but still open for business.
I got a hair cut only, and I really liked how my hair turned out. I wanted my layers cleaned up and my hair to look health again.

I have been going to Theory since they opened and Holly is my hairdresser. She is an amazing artist! I have to say that almost everyone at Theory has touched my hair at one time or another and I have always left there feeling great! The whole crew there is extremely talented, professional and aim to please.
My family has also had the pleasure to use the services provided while visiting Bozeman. My sister had her hair colored, majorly cut and styled — adorable! My nieces had their hair styled and were treated like princesses. And my mom received an amazing cut and style a few years ago… she still talks about that hair cut and wants to come back to Bozeman just for a new do!
I love the new product line and that the stylists continue their education in their field. I feel confident about the products used on my hair and their application.

After having an awful experience at another salon in town, I found Theory and more importantly, I found Brittney. She saw the condition of my hair (pretty fried) and gave me an honest evaluation of what she could do and what she would not do. She even called my previous (good) stylist and discussed my hair situation. She has really turned my hair around, thank God!
The salon itself is very hip and they always play good music. The stylists and receptionists who work here are very friendly and knowledgeable.
You’ll be hard pressed to find a better salon anywhere in Montana.
