My wife got a burger here and it was a lot more raw than u would normally expect. She ended getting violently ill for several days with ecoli poisoning afterwards! I can’t express to you how sick she got and would avoid this place at all costs! Would provide zero stars if I could!

Prices are very reasonable. Hubby had the meatloaf. We were a little baffled why the waitress asked if he wanted the senior portion or the regular size. He got the regular one. It was huge and made for leftovers. Open face style with bread in bottom, meatloaf, mashed potatoes, gravy and onion rings on top. It was very tall. Served with a side of veggies. He said it was great. I had the tuna melt. I hate when you get a cold tuna melt. Half of the goodness is warm tuna with melted goofy cheese. It was ok. The fries were homemade but on the undercooked side. If they want thick fries cook them longer so when you pick them up they stay straight and not break and flop. Service was attentive and super fast. The kitchen was fast. Décor is on the pub side and looks shabby but clean.

I have heard a lot about this place from numerous people and so thought to try it out for myself on a Sunday for lunch. The bar was filled with people watching football and the dining room was fairly full as well. The wife and I shared a hamburger and the meatloaf dinner. The burger was good, the curly fries were very good. The meatloaf was OK, a little dry for my taste. I am happy we went but do not know if we will go back. Nothing wrong with the food or the service, but there was nothing outstanding to draw me back. Free popcorn was a nice touch.

Went there Friday night to eat and sing with piano bar, we had large group and sat around the piano, there was no room for my sister at piano, so she went to sit at the bar and was immediately rudely told by the blonde bartender that she better not move the bar chair to piano, she had no intention of doing so, she just wanted to sit at bar. The piano man is very talented and had a great time on another visit, but this incident was tainted by a rude employee, I saw her attitude also when I went to bar to get a drink and talk to my sister, completely ignored me, if you are going to work in people business, then ACTNICE and professional, I wish I could of talked to her boss, too bad, now we might not go again.

Tried going here for dinner Friday night with four of my friends. When we arrived it was busy and we attempted to find a seat. When we tried to get a table because there was five of us we needed to put two tables together. As we were doing this a group of «locals» started giving us attitude. They asked if we were locals and said they basically had dibs on the table because they lived in W Boylston. We then attempted to buy a drink at the bar and the bartender would not serve one of us because he only had a MA I.D. We have gone here many times with our family and never had issues buying a drink with the same ID but for some reason Friday night I guess the bartender was siding with the«locals from W Boylston». I’ve told everyone I know not to go here which is too bad because we liked the food there. Shame on you bartender for your unprofessional decision to side with the locals. You will never see a dime of my money again, your loss.

If you’re in the mood for comfort food and an authentic Irish pub atmosphere, try this place. I have been here many times and have tried many options and haven’t been disappointed. The staff take their jobs seriously and make sure your dining experience is satisfactory. The prices make it affordable to dine here often and the portion sizes are more than generous. Love this place. A++

Our twin babies and 2.5 year old were in melt-down mode as we were driving home, pulled off the highway and decided to stop in for a late lunch. Another dining experience where I read the reviews afterwards and was surprised. The place is definitely a form of dive bar/pub with very old and boring décor. They had free popcorn and crackers with cheese which worked out great for calming down my older son. There was a bar on one side and a dining area on the other. Looked to be a bit of a local spot. The bathrooms were not accommodating for children, at least not the men’s room. Despite the initial turn offs, I was extremely surprised at the food quality and price. Had all 5 of us in the back of the dining room for a late lunch early dinner so the place was hardly crowded, in fact it was rather empty(only 2 other tables in the dining room). Our waitress(Tess?!) did an excellent job. Ordered mozz sticks for appetizers — not fancy but they came out hot and fresh which is pretty much all you can ask for in them. I got bacon cheeseburger, ordered it medium and it was delicious and temperature was spot on, char broiled, crispy bacon. Amazing. Wife got haddock, which she like. Each had a beer and the total was right around $ 36! No food left on our plates. Inexpensive and tasty lunch with great service — worked for me!

New management it seems. All other reviews are here by declared as invalid and inconsequential. It’s the same old Other Place on the outside(except for the beer bottle in the picture above) and it appears the same inside as well. The menu has changed. Somethings for the better. But I really do not like ordering a cheese burger and then being charged for lettuce and tomato and pickles and onion. Each separately. Were there really so many people who do not like such topping outside with pitch forks and torches demanding a discount for a plain cow sandwich? Really? Now the rest of us have to pay up to $ 2 for the above? Oh, the same angry model has also caused the same bad judgement to alter the pricing model for the quesadilla as well. Order one and you get tortilla and and cheese. No self respecting Abuella serves that. I’d cut them a break, being an Irish place, but this is a trend here so No Mas. The servers have changed over time as well, but that is because it takes a while for them to learn to find another position. The old regular servers that had been there forever are long since gone, and the replacements seem to turn over regularly. Not that I can blame them. The servers must, it seems, allow the bar to ring their slips. This was demonstrated by my poor server being ignored as the bar keeper manager rang in 3 other slips and spilled a few drinks before ringing my slip. Oh, and shall we mention the Brazilian Mariachi band that came out of the kitchen, banging on various kitchen implements to make a rhythm, while singing Happy Birthday very badly? It was disturbing as these fellows were dressed in dirty jeans and sloppy t shirts. If they can’t dress, how can I believe that they can be trusted to clean or even cook? This new management needs to spend some at other other places(see what I did right there) and see what they do well. I mean really pay attention. Then pay attention here. Or they’ll lose this place.

I love this place … and I am very picky! It is not gourmet food, for sure but in terms of a local place that serves good food at reasonable prices … you won’t get any better than this. They have been in the same location forever and have a big local following. It used to be a lot more crowded, but now you can actually get a table without a long wait most times. The prices are simply amazing here. The food is so good I think they depend on you ordering soup, salad, entrée, beers and dessert which is where they make money. But, a burger here doesn’t run you much more than $ 5 or $ 6. Most entrees are under $ 10. There is a big variety as well … the menu isn’t overwhelming but does offer a ton of options. There is traditional Irish Fare, Pub Food, and even some ‘finer’ dining options. Their French Onion Soup is among the best I’ve had at any pub. One dish I wholely endorse is the homemade mac and cheese with Buffalo Chicken. Its $ 6 plain or $ 10 with the buffalo chicken but the taste is great! Probably not the healthiest of foods but wow, it’s good. The interior is fun … its a very small Irish pub restaurant on one side(with small tables and booths and warm but cheesy 1980s shellacked wood paneling) and a big bar on the other side with tvs. Seems like as good a place as any to watch the Red Sox play. The beers on tap are pretty plentiful. Sure, this isn’t fine dining by any stretch but in terms of a nice, little local pub where everyone is very friendly and the food is consistently good … you won’t find much better. You’ll find yourself coming back over and over. It is comfortable and good.

Very disappointed. When you order Irish Benedict one would assume it would have hollandaise sauce. I had to ask for it on the side. It came in a small bowl that had obviously been microwaved, hot and crusty on the edges and cold in the middle. NO Irish restaurant should serve hash from a can. The only nice thing in this restaurant was the waitress!

How should I even begin? It was a morning of mice and men… My husband and I had decided to go out to breakfast at The Other Place because they had Eggs Benedict. I was 33 weeks pregnant and was craving this dish, which I cannot make at home. I called the day before to see if they were going to be open(we had just had the Blizzard of 2013). The waitress was a little short on the phone, but they were probably busy and that is fine. That morning, I found a dead mouse in a trap in my house. We had been plagued with this problem for a while now and the cat is of no use. I thought I had seen enough mice that morning. But when we were rolled up to The Other Place, we encountered more. Now, I am giving them the benefit of the doubt because when it was cold and there was a lot of snow, mice go indoors, right? I just have never seen one at a restaurant… ever. This mouse was in plain sight, too. My husband went to get a booster seat for our son in the area near the restrooms and there it was. He actually stepped on it by accident and well, the poor thing perished. We discreetly told our waitress and she cleaned it up. Honestly, the restaurant was empty and we probably should have left right there and then. But we did eat breakfast there(shame on us!) and heard mice scampering about above the ceiling tiles as well. I could barely eat my food and from what I could taste anyway, the Eggs Benedict were a bit greasy and not the best I’ve ever had. So, we will never go back here. And I forgot to mention that we tried to come here for St. Patrick’s Day in 2012 and no one greeted at the door, whatever, so we just left. Please don’t think I am trying to give this restaurant a bad name by making all of this up. I have written many reviews and believe restaurants should get a fair shot. But after bad experiences twice and unsanitary conditions, I wouldn’t want anyone to eat here either. And I’m writing this review about five months later, but I had a baby in March and am now just getting to these reviews. Maybe they’ve improved… for the better? If not the food, please change the dark and outdated décor. So many problems with The Other Place.

Mike K, Have been going into this place for a while til I got totally fed up. Sure it is a great place for a drink if you can dismiss the horrible food, the mice running around, the horrible mens room and the bartender who talks about everyone that comes and goes and the owner and his racial slurs. The place needs a good cleaning. dust everywhere, floors are loaded with popcorn and the cheese table between the bar and restaurant gets disgusting with the left out peanut butter and crackers, The owners are not pleasant at all, one night myself and a friend stood waiting for a seat at the bar and the owners never got up and offered us their stools. They sat there and drank and ignored the fact that we were waiting to sit. Some of the waitresses do not look professional nor do they know how to wait on customers. They are rude! I will not be back and now I understand because of all the drama with their customers and all the remarks that are made about their customers that at least 15 of them walked out a few sat nights ago because of the owners wife and bartender harrassing the paino player. Kudos to them. This place needs a complete overhaul, new management with new bartenders and waitstaff.

2 stars because our waitress was rocking the dining room all by herself & doing a pretty damn good job at it! She was weeded but still kept her composure. You could tell she was a «Lifer»! I don’t live in the area but my Mother & Step-Father eat dinner here quite often. I was visiting so I went along with them on a Sunday night. Place is pretty beat up like the owner has no pride. It has a sort of ‘truck stop’ feel to it. The best part of my meal was the small salad that comes with Dinner entrees. The lettuce was fresh & crisp as were the rest of the vegetables and the Blue Cheese dressing had big chunks of cheese. Housemade? My salmon was EXTREMELY overcooked! Dry as a bone. And about a 1⁄3 of it was inedible & obviously frozen & suffered from freezer burn. Near East rice pilaf was way overcooked & mushy. Baby carrots were undercooked, slight crunch & room temperature. My stepfather gets embarassed if food is complained about or returned, so I sucked it up and ate some of his steak & some of my mother’s chicken. Waitress noticed the sucky piece of salmon while clearing plates. She never checked on us while we were eating. Comping the meal or a dessert would have helped. But, she was swamped & I understand.

I’ll first say I don’t go here usually but I decided to check it out for it’s St. Patty’s fare. I have to say that it’s not the cleanest but the atmosphere was great, complete with live band, our waitress was great, and the traditional corn beef and cabbage meal was delicious, and exactly what I wanted. It might not be for everyone, but the homemade mustard they hand make there was perfect with the corn beef. If you only go there one night a year. St. Patrick’s day is the perfect day to go.

First the Pros: –Convenient location –Reasonable prices Cons: –I have been there 3 times and I have yet to have a good meal. The food is unevenly spiced and or over cooked. I had a vegetable side dish that was over cooked and flavorless, –They leave out cheese and crackers in open air next to bar. It seems unsanitary. –The décor has not been updated in 30 years If you want to get a drink and maybe some pub food(wings, etc.), this place is OK. If you are looking for a decent meal, keep driving.

Consistently good chow with a diverse menu and daily specials along with friendly bartenders and wait staff. Unpretentious Irish Pub ambience makes for a friendly and relaxing environment to chill out and dine/drink. Prime rib and steaks are great deals and be sure to try the house salad dressing.

Great place for a meal in the Shrewsbury/Boylston and surrounding area. Prime Rib is the best value here! Burgers are fantastic too. They do some pretty good seafood dishes like a Fisherman’s Platter or baked haddock. It’s primarily a place where a lot of locals and«regulars» frequent but newcomers are always welcome with friendly waitstaff. Piano bar crowd on Friday and Saturday nights can get annoying but they seem to have fun with it so more power to them! Family friendly but also good with a group of friends, probably not the best place to take a date if you’re trying to impress. Overall, I definitely recommend Other Place Pub!
