Naturally Native is still in business at least until November. I was there today and got a diverse selection of native plants for shade and sun. The staff here is very helpful and is able to recommend plants based on soil, sun and water requirements. They stock shrubs, grasses, vines, ferns, and wildflowers that are guaranteed to attract pollinators and other wildlife to your garden. Today I purchased American Alum Root, Little Bluestem Grass, Wild Quinine, Ohio Spiderwort, New England Aster among others. They have a very impressive selection, and the best part is they are giving away 1 milkweed plant free with each purchase. I have been a customer of Naturally Native for many years, and they have never disappointed.

Not sure why this place is listed as closed. I was there just last week and picked up two trays of plants. All kinds of good stuff: Cardinal flower, Ostrich fern, Wild Bergamot, Celandine Poppy, Lobelia, etc. I decided this was they year I would go native and plant flowers that would make the bees, butterflies and birds in my little corner of the world very happy. Jan, the owner, helped me pick out the flowers based on a list I had with me. She threw in a couple of plants for free, too. Jan’s very knowledgable about these plants that most of us are clueless about and often speaks to garden clubs and other groups. Though I bought them to please the wildlife, I was also happy to find that many of them grow well in part shade — shade. Maybe we should designate a week in spring as Tear up Your Lawn and Plant Natives Week, then sit back and watch our once sterile strips of yard come back to life. Viva la nature!
