I understand that Dr. Manjit has been practicing for a long time and the average patient no longer excites/surprises her anymore. I had my first OB/GYN visit at Dr. Manjit’s office. I opted out of having a pap smear. She did however examine my breasts. And that alone was a traumatizing experience. I left her office feeling violated. I clearly understand that she’s a professional and she’s trained to touch people — it’s part of her regular job duty. But when you have a first-time patient, I would think the doctor would take the time to walk the patient through what she’s doing, the doctor would seek consent. There was none of that. Dr. Manjt came in with her chart and an intern. She removed the gown her clinical assistant had left for me to wear, and she just went straight for the breasts. She took little to no time to explain what she was doing. Had it only been her in the room with me that would be one matter. But there was a third individual, i.e. the intern, and she didn’t even seek consent before ‘exploring’ my body. By far this was one of the more awful visits I have had to date.

If patience is indeed a virtue, then one more visit here is likely going to put me on the road to canonization. This is the second visit in a row in which I have been double-booked. The first time around, I was actually triple booked. When I came in to the normally-quiet waiting room, I found that every seat had been taken. I asked the receptionist what was going on and she said that Dr. Risam was behind and was out of town one day that week, so was trying to fit everyone in. Uhhhh — not going to work. You either need to cancel or reschedule people. I asked the receptionist if it would help if I rescheduled even though I was there already and she looked at me like I was saving the day, so I did. lol! She told me to make my next appointment at 1:00 p.m. since it would be right after they all came back from lunch and I would be the first person to see her. Sweet. Ok! However, here I am, in the waiting room again(yes — I brought my laptop in with me because I knew I would be waiting). It’s a little after 1:00 p.m. and there is another person here for a 1:00 appointment AND I was just told she still has a morning client in with her now she needs to finish up with before taking a short break and then moving on to the afternoon clients. Sounds like business is booming: great news for Dr. Risam/not so great for her patients. Dr. Risam herself is very kind, but even before the double/triple-bookings, I have felt rushed in her office, as if I am just one of many people she has to see and she doesn’t have time for chit chat or small talk. She is never rude, but definitely rushed. So far, it’s just been something I’ve noticed without really thinking about. However, as more and more of my friends have kids, I think about how important your gynecologist is. We don’t plan on starting a family for awhile, but when we do, I want to have a doctor in place who I trust and who doesn’t make me feel like she has somewhere else to be or is rushing any care with me. Thus, this will be my last visit here unfortunately. She’s not a bad doctor, but the experience here leaves a lot to be desired.

I normally dont review Dr. s offices because they are such a personal place but I know the struggles I had while looking for a doctor in the area so im hoping this will help someone else out! Let me give you a little background first, I come from a place where Drs offices are in medical parks and dont look like shady places where you might leave with more than you came with. Where offices are bright and airy and the people are friendly and knowledgeable. I could tell quite a few horror stories of places ive been in MD where I didnt even walk in because the building was a little too sketchy. This office I wouldnt say was the mecca or anything of that sort but it was one of the better ones ive found in the area. Its in a decent area and the office staff is nice. The Dr spent time with me and asked questions and made sure my questions was answered. Do I miss my Dr. in GAYES, do i miss my DR. in NCHELLYES, but I am happy i found one here where im not scared to step foot in the building! and thats saying a lot for me. :)
