I had the pleasure of going to the Steak Room last weekend while I was visiting Boulder from DC. The steak tartare was really tasty — maybe it was the truffle oil and nicely balanced spices. It may have been the best I’ve had Also tasted the sliders and wow they were simply yummy. The staff was great — very friendly, knowledgable and attentive. Our evening was really enjoyable — those of you who live in Boulder are very lucky to have The Steak Room! I’ll be back the next time I’m in town.

Went to the Pearl Street Steak Room for an early Mother’s Day treat and holy wow were we treated! The food was epic! I ordered the Wagyu and it was pricey but phenomenal. Probably the best tasting, most tender steak I have ever encountered. The service was excellent. Our waiter was very personable and VERY knowledgeable about food AND wine. He hooked us up with a great pairing for our meal. Unique, intimate and good for a special night. Would definitely visit again!

We had a party of 9 to celebrate a graduation. What a terrible meal and experience. Almost every dish was cold, several had to be sent back. I think they thought that if they served a cold steak on a hot plate, it would cook. Several of the steaks had more fat than meat. Unbelievable to serve that kind of food at those prices. I wonder if they are using the kitchen from their mexican restaurant next store? Several of us had upset stomachs that night and the next day. What a disappointment! I can only assume that the positive reviews are written by friends, family and employees!

Fantastic steak and wonderful service. The only negative I can think of was the noise level. It is a small restaurant with many hard surfaces, so when there is a loud table everyone in the restaurant needs to speak up to be heard. That being said, I will repeat how amazing the food was. My wife and I shared the steak tartare as a starter. It was wonderful and big enough for the two of us to share. For dinner she chose the chose the Ribeye«Filet» with a crab cake and I chose New York Strip with truffle fries. Our steaks were cooked perfectly(we tend to like them on the rarer side). The only complaint about our choices for dinner is that we did not have room to try dessert. In addition, they had great service. They were helpful with dinner choices and when my wife requested a cocktail she had seen on their online menu, but no longer had, they gave us her first drink for free. All around great date night or special occasion place.

Wow! That is really what I must begin with, as I was completely wowed by this amazing new little restaurant. Ahh. where to begin! One cold Saturday night we found ourselves craving a steak — and not just any steak. I wasn’t very privy to filing into the Chophouse, being served a mediocre cut of choice meat with mass-produced potatoes, and calling it a night. We were in the mood for something better than that, and boy did we find it. After perusing the reviews on this lovely little website called Unilocal,we decided it might be a good idea to try this place out. Although the menu looked pricey, we knew what we were in for. A nice piece of Prime — or better yet, Wagyu — beef was well worth the extra bucks, and we were prepared to drop those bucks for better quality. So, off we went. Upon arriving I was pleasantly surprised — the place is small, and not as stuffy as I was expecting — it actually wasn’t stuffy at all. Some high-end places like that are known to stick their noses up at the younger clientele, but the staff and waiters were extremely nice and personable, and we were off to a great start. I ordered a dirty martini and my date ordered a manhattan. Although my martini was a little heavy on the vermouth, I didn’t specify otherwise so that was no mistake on their end. I’ll be sure to ask for it to be extra dry next time ;) After our drinks arrived, we ordered rather promptly. Since we had already studied the menu somewhat extensively before heading over — which is pretty par for the course — we already had a good idea of what we wanted. To start, I ordered the Pearl Street Caesar, which was a de-constructed Caesar salad with a truffle-esque Caesar dressing, the most heavenly piece of thick cut house-cured bacon, and and a Pecorino chip. It was delicious. All of the components went perfectly together, the presentation was flawless, and the dish as a whole was a success. Way to take something so classic and simple and really jazz it up — I was impressed. Scott ordered the Bean Soup, which was something I personally wouldn’t have picked off of the menu, but it was delicious! It came with a mini Mortadella grilled cheese sandwich that was the perfect dipping tool for the soup. Off to a fabulous start. For dinner, I ordered the Wagyu Ribeye and Scott ordered the Prime Ribeye. We wanted to do a bit of a taste test, and although the Wagyu Ribeye was half the size of the Prime but the same price, we knew it still would be more than worth it. And it certainly was. Both steaks were cooked to perfection — medium rare, nicely seared, and tasted like butta. I had died and gone to Wagyu beef heaven. By far one of the most delicious steaks I have ever consumed. And the Prime Ribeye was amazing as wel! Both spectacular pieces of meat, cooked simply and perfectly. Yum. For sides we ordered — after much debate — the Gouda mac n cheese and broccolini & cheddar sauce. Yep, we love cheese. Both sides were delicious — the Gouda mac & cheese delicately topped with breadcrumbs for that much needed crunch. Great compliments to the impeccable pieces of meat. And alas, after such a fabulous meal, how could one turn down dessert? We sure couldn’t, and so we dove head first into the Winter Pudding — which they so lovingly cleverly to as «The Dude» — and it was amazing! White Russian custard with sugar cookie crumbles on top and a bruleed apple. So this was my *only* complaint about the entire meal — the apple was a little too hard. If it had been poached, it would have been perfect. But I was trying to cut a slice of the apple with my spoon and somehow my brute force managed to shatter the entire glass! This was a first. Here we are sitting in a very high end, classy restaurant, with a shattered cup of pudding. Whoops. Needless to say, the waiter came over immediately and let us know that the dessert was on them — even though it was completely my fault — and brought over a new dessert: Oatmeal Cream Cheesecake, which was equally as delicious. Overall, the meal, service, ambiance, and even shattered cup of pudding was completely amazing. We had a wonderful night and cannot wait to go back. Although this definitely isn’t your everyday place to go, it certainly is one that we will return to for special occasions and those evenings where we are willing to drop a few extra dollars for what is hands down the best steak in town.

Boulder got another amazing restaurant! I loved the Holstein New York strip(will have to try the Wagyu ribeye for two next time…), the sliders made with the same beef, the tartare. We had a side of the lionshead mushrooms, which were a tad bit too salty, but as soon as we mentioned that to the server, he offered to have them remade right away. The bread(small detail, I know) was tasty, apparently they source it from the Med. The tea was from the Boulder Brewing Company — we had a very smooth assam. Overall, I appreciate their attention to the details. The beef was some of the best we’ve had — just the right texture, cooked to a perfect medium rare, with just amazing flavor from the meat itself and also served with a couple sauces for us to enjoy with it(we tried them, agreed they were great and then ignored them for the rest of the time… seriously, with beef that good, even an amazing sauce seems to be overkill). The servers were all clearly enthusiastic about the food, which is always a huge plus. I know it’s tough for restaurants to make it, especially on the expensive West side of Pearl St. Mall. I sure hope this one does.

Anxious to check this place out since I first heard of it’s existence as a coming attraction — When we got to check it out we were mostly satisfied — The food was pricey but really good… presentation was impeccable and food tasted amazing — The staff was very«hands-on» and a few times boarder-lined on intruding but everyone was friendly and very knowledgeable — The chef introduced himself as did the manager/bartender — very friendly group The disappointment we did experience had alot to do with the ambiance — the restaurant itself was very nice and modern however being next to Tahona the bass of the house music from Tahona was ridiculous — I could hear the music from Tahona more than the music in PSSR(it was alot louder) and as this was at 8pm it was a bit ridiculous — The staff seemed a bit annoyed and would go over to ask them to lower it but the music would only lower a few minutes and then resume — my fiancé and I were told there was a special event next door Tahona was preparing for(It was NYE) and apologized — while we enjoyed our meal $ 250 is a bit much to pay to not expect a more relaxed atmosphere — would consider again but earlier in the night to avoid the thumping beats and club clout

When you want to indulge from both a culinary and monetary standpoint, you should have this wonderful room high on your list! The food, the personal attention and the small room make this an incredible experience! The Wagyu ribeye and the Holstein ribeye were the best we have had in recent memory — just incredible quality done to the exact preparation we requested. The house-cured bacon as a topper — do not pass on this — wow! Whipped potatoes and gouda mac-n-cheese stood out as well. We didn’t want to fill up on appetizers, but Chef Matt personally delivered small complimentary portions of shrimp toast, soup and salad — I think just to let us know what we were missing! Warm crusty bread, a shared oatmeal cookie cheesecake and perfect french-press coffee topped off the memorable experience. We also met the owners while there and Todd, the sommelier and our server — they were personable, knowledgeable and just made it a very special experience. I honestly can not tell you one thing I wasn’t completely happy with about the experience — that doesn’t happen often these days. Highly, highly recommended!

The service here is unbelievable. See Tim-he is awesome. We showed up a little late but they honored the happy hour menu for us. We ordered 2 amazing glasses of red wine(mine was St. Jean Cab which I highly recommend) and the gouda mac & cheese. We also got to try the duck confit appetizer. I never thought I’d try duck, but they convinced me so I do. It was braised in a port for 24 hours so you can imagine how succulent it was. Try this place… it’s a gem!

Situated next to Tahona, we came to Pearl Street Steak Room for the happy hour to try to the small bites and cocktails menu. The décor is nice but reminds me of something straight of of mad men. I think for me it’s a tad too gentlemen’s club. Overall the service was excellent but I found the bartender pushy about getting us to try things not on the happy hour menu. Since we sat at the bar and mentioned were were primarily interested in happy hour, I found myself annoyed. Add that to the fact that I specifically mentioned a food allergy and he kept pushing a dish that was clearly going to give me a reaction and I was a tad displeased. It left me feeling a little skeezed out as one might at a used car lot. I thought the food was good but there were definitely some hit or miss price points. The fries were great. My friend enjoyed her sampling plate and the price point seemed right for happy hour. The burger for instance was 10 bucks but the size of tiny little slider. It definitely needed something else to warrant such a high price. Unless it’s grass fed(it’s not), I can’t see why the burger was so darn expensive. Some of the cocktails I enjoyed but others again were far too old fashioned. I think in an age where people aren’t smoking so much and therefore don’t have dead tastebuds, food and drink from the 60s is too heavy handed. In some respects they achieved retro, and others I really disliked what I had been given to drink. To be fair, I probably will go back for dinner to try the whole menu so I can get a fairer picture. However, based on what I’ve seen, I imagine with diary allergies I’m going to have a tough time. Other restaurants in Boulder bend over backwards to make people with food sensitivities feel welcome. This restaurants didn’t seem so amenable. I guess they are a bit retro that way.

Wow. That’s all I can say about the steak here. I can truthfully say I’ve never had a better one in Boulder. Firstly, the service was stellar. It’s pretty obvious that the staff are highly trained pros. We were treated quite well and felt that our waiter was knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive without being annoying. We started our dinner with a bowl of the pumpkin bisque, and it was fabulous(the gingerbread in the soup is a masterful choice). I then had the ribeye filet, and my husband chose the filet mignon. Both were quite good, but I think I preferred the flavor and preparation of mine(the horseradish aioli was a wonderful and unexpectedly harmonious addition). We asked for them medium rare, and they were perfect, with just the right amount of searing on the outside along with juicy pink insides. I’m not going to say that I’m a steak expert by any means, but again I resort to WOW. The sides we chose were the whipped potatoes, the gouda mac and cheese, the roasted brussels sprouts, and the creamed greens. We both thought the sprouts were the most wonderful things ever(my husband normally HATES them, but he had three servings of these!). We then indulged in dessert and shared the Chocolate Trio, which is a chocolate brownie with ice cream and chocolate eggnog. Well, I’ve been around the dessert block a time or two, and I didn’t think anything could surprise me as far as chocolate goes anymore, but this was a real delight and quite unique. In a lot of restaurants, the desserts seem like an afterthought – even some of the fancy places in Boulder have great entrées and so-so desserts. But that’s not the case here. We had a great time and will definitely be returning to The Pearl Street Steak Room. I think that this place will be a staple of Boulder eating before long – it’s the kind of place you’ll take out-of-towners to impress them.
