I love trying yoga studios when they are brand new. Being one of the first customers pretty much guarantees a small class and some extra personal attention. I live in Beacon Hill and generally walk to BBY or HYL, but I saw a Gilt City deal for Studio J so decided to give it a shot. I’ve only done yoga, so I can only comment on that. First of all, it’s nice to be in a brand new space. The studio itself isn’t in the most obvious location, but the inside is gorgeous. I took a saturday morning yoga class, and I definitely felt it the following day! I forget the instructor’s name, but she was super nice and did a fantastic job. She really helped adjust my husband, a beginner. I think it’s great that they allowed pilates and yoga in their deal because I’d really like to try pilates. I look forward to attending more classes. I hope the studio will offer groupon type deals a few times a year like BBY does. My only gripe… which is teeny, tiny and nit-picky… is that the yoga classes are only an hour, and I prefer 1.5 hour yoga classes. But again, I definitely felt great after taking an hour long class, so I can probably attribute that to an extremely efficient instructor.

A beautiful and welcoming yoga/pilates studio right around the corner from work… what more could you ask for? Since studio J opened earlier this year, I have been able to practice yoga THREE times a week, DURINGTHEWORKDAY! It’s a miracle. The lunch time classes are perfect and make fitting exercise and yoga into my schedule easy. I am so pleased to see that they are doing well, and encourage everyone to stop in to check it out. Whether you are an experiences yogi, or a beginner, you will fit right in. The space and equipment is state of the art, but the atmosphere is friendly and very non-judgmental. There are many different payment/membership options. I chose the monthly auto-renew membership, so that I can take unlimited yoga or mat pilates classes!

At last! All the uptight stuffed shirts in the DTX/Gov Ctr/FiDi get a place to unbunch their knickers and let the energy flow. Studio J opened a few weeks ago without much fanfare, but I’m intent on creating some for them. There are no dedicated yoga studios in the area; if you want to practice getting that good chi, you’ve got to pay membership and class fees at a gym like BSC or Women’s Fitness of Boston. Not that there’s anything wrong with that! But I’m feeling a little burnt out on the whole gym membership thing right now. So imagine my joy when a pilates/yoga/mat/massage studio opens just steps from my place of employ! Yoga is easy to turn your nose up at as a glorified hippie stretch fest, but once you try a class or two, you may find yourself hooked. The prices here are fairly standard, only a couple dollars more for a drop in class than my(non-centrally located) neighborhood studio. There are great deals for first-timers and new students – I bought the two weeks unlimited for $ 25, and if you take more than two classes, you’ve already overextended the value of your enlightenment. Considering its location(in an alley of loading docks and an unfortunate body or two sleeping on a grate), the inside is surprisingly lovely. This is the perfect place to tune out the outside world and focus on your inner self for an hour or two. Each yoga teacher I’ve had has been intuitive, qualified, and challenging – it will be so hard to downgrade my plan once my unlimited deal is up!
