They took my car in on Dec.7 and rebuilt the transmission, now it’s purring like a kitten. They work fast and get the job right the first time. I had my car back by that Friday –wow. I’m very pleased with their work especially since this was a warranty job ALL COVERED.
If I didn’t have my extended Warranty — the job wld have cost me a little over $ 3000. 00

I’ve lived down the street from Pier for about 5 years now and never knew this place existed until my transmission dropped in my ’03 Accord about 2 years ago. I knew the fix was going to cost about as much as the car was worth, but ended up going with Pier because their service included a three year /​36k warranty on the rebuilt parts which I saw as a great value. They were able to do a full rebuild on my transmission in just a few days and I had my car back and running in less than a week. It was not this service that impressed me though…
I ended up having a number of issues with my car (which was a money pit at the time) ranging from sway bars, ties rods, engine misfiring, etc. since then and I’ve always felt that I was getting a trusted opinion from a reliable source. Every time I ever had an issue with the car, I would just call John, drop the car off, and he would call me back in no more than a few hours with a diagnosis, pricing, and would let me know if the repair was urgent or not. I can’t tell you how valuable John has been over the past few years and has made a normally unpleasant /​expensive situation very easy to deal with.
I now have a new car and have to have it serviced at the dealership, but I still refer friends and other Southie residents here when they need a reliable car mechanic. Everyone I know has been pleased with their service over the past few years and I’m grateful that they are so easy to deal with.
fyi — I usually ask for John when I call. His brother works there as well though I think John handles more of the quotes, services, etc.

My car broke down late last night. No repair shops were open & I had to make a decision as to where to tow my car to — I made the wrong call by going to Piers. Turns out I needed a new radiator for which they quoted me $ 600+. Having just replaced another radiator on our 2^nd family car I knew this repair to be around $ 300. They cited the radiator part alone at $ 350 whereas I found it at my local Autozone in-​stock for $ 140.
When I asked for backup to their pricing they held me over a barrel and said, «feel free to have it towed again» (knowing this would cost me another $ 100). The owner John was disagreeable and demeaning. I was treated as though they held all the chips & I was just a sucker. I wouldn’t recommend Pier Transmission to my worst enemy.
**UPDATE: I actually paid the $ 100 to have my disabled car towed (again) from Piers to an Auto Repair shop recommended by a friend (A to Z Auto on Shetland St. in Roxbury). I furnished the radiator from Autozone & paid $ 175 for labor to install. My radiator repair cost $ 315 total (+$ 100 for the 2^nd tow) as compared to the $ 600 Pier Transmission tried to extort me for. If only I had never sent my car there to begin with!

I brought my car here to fix a power steering leak that I had already identified (it’s plain to see where it’s leaking from). Being someone that does his own repairs on both his car and motorcycle, I was happy to find a place that would accept my own parts. After purchasing the parts myself and going to Pier Transmission, I was told that they had no idea how long it would take, but their hourly rate is $ 100/​hr. I asked them to confirm the price with me before starting work. After waiting two weeks, I was left a message saying the repairs were done and they took longer than expected, with me owing $ 300 for a repair that I had already purchased parts for. Having reviewed the complexity of the repair, I knew I was either being ripped off, or these guys just didn’t know what they were doing for the first two hours. After explaining that I had not agreed to the price, or any price for that matter, I was hung up on. Needless to say I will not be returning here.
Update:
I sat down with John who owns Pier Transmission to discuss my issues with the service described above. John is a very reasonable man and made it easy to reach an amicable solution to our dispute. In the end, the work was done well and he turned a bad situation into a satisfying one. I would return here again knowing that any differences can be worked out and that the mechanics here are good and complete with their work.
