I’ve never been so scared /confused on how the ordering process is done. I typically enter with the mentality of how Jerry Seinfeld ordered from the Soup Nazi, don’t bring friends that are apprehensive about ordering, the workers have zero patience and will look through your soul if you ask too many questions. This is how you should order food at Pats: 1. Walk towards register, lock eyes with one of the approximately 12 cooks and state what you want, DONOTSTATETOPPINGS! 2. Step off to the side and put your head down, do not look back up until they call out what you ordered. 3. At this point it’s okay to state what toppings you want on your sandwich, I suggest saying«everything» to avoid confusion and/or death. 4. Pay 5. Sit down and enjoy your food.

Pros: cheap, convenient location, decent quality subs. Cons: can get loud and really packed during lunch hours(12 – 1), workers are sometimes rude, very little space(when busy). This place gets 4 stars because it’s fast, cheap, and delicious!

Context: Lunch time on Monday. Service: Order and pay at the register. No ordering system, so pay attention for your order! They will yell! This place gets LOUDANDPACKED during lunch hour with doctors and researchers, so be aware. They only have bottled water, so nothing from the tap. Be prepared to pay for water. Ambiance: Fast food aura. Tables and windows, that’s pretty much it hahah. Philly Cheesesteak with Everything! Delicious! This guy is PACKED with goodies: pickles, mayonnaise, red sauce, cheese, lettuce, etc! The pickles are chunks instead of slices. I thought this was flavorful, tasty, and cheap! YUMYUM! My Review Haiku(Hey, that kind of rhymes!!): Really packed at lunch Philly Cheesesteak is the bomb Quick, cheap, YUM, thanks Pat’s! This is a Brigham and Women’s HIDDENGEM! A filling lunch for two people for $ 7! You will feel guilty and fat, but it was delicious!

Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. I mean, I really, really, really love breakfast. I’m not talking about cold breakfast, I’m talking about hot, delicious, savory breakfast. Nothing hits the spot like a breakfast sandwich and homefries. Alas, in the Longwood Medical Area, I have been on a hunt for the best breakfast sandwich with very little success. As others have mentioned, there are a lot of ‘cookie cutter’ restaurants around here, like Bruegger’s and Au Bön Pain, as well as the cafeteria. Is it worth even mentioning the fare from the Longwood Galleria? There’s McDonalds and some other fast food crap, I’m sure, but I’m way too classy for that junk. All of those places use those creepy egg patties, blegh. There’s Sami’s on the corner of Longwood Ave and Louis Pasteur, but sadly it will go the way of the dinosaurs in a few short weeks.(Plus, that place definitely has some serious health code violations.) So, where does that leave us? The clover food truck behind the New Research Building has a ‘breakfast sandwich’ — a whole wheat pita with tomato, cheddar, and a soft-boiled egg — but that’s too much of a stretch for a traditional breakfast sandwich lover like myself. What’s a girl to do? When I really wanted a breakfast sandwich, you know, like with REAL eggs, I would go to the Brigham and Women’s Hospital caf and ask them to make one for me. It’s always a bit awkward, because you have to specify that you want ‘real eggs’ and they ask you to bring over a cup from the coffee bar so that they can scramble the eggs in there… basically, I have to weigh my desire for the breakfast sandwich against my desire not to announce to a long line of hungry, important people that I am truly high maintenance. NOW, my review of Pat’s Place: FINALLY! A real breakfast sandwich, greasy and fried eggy and everything! The bagel was yum, the egg was yum, everything was yum. Clearly, words are failing me as I slip into a postprandial food coma. Aside from that deliciousness, the homefries were nothing special. I’ll skip them next time.(Best homefries? Children’s Hospital caf. They’re from-frozen, but glow orange and hella tasty. You’re welcome.) Oh, also, I feel like a total loser, but I was having a lot of trouble understanding the cashier’s Boston accent. I’m from here! I think he might have been messing with me. But then he saw that I really could not understand him, and gave me the sideways-eye. I felt really dumb and briefly considered pretending that I was hearing impaired, but decided against it. Again, too much effort, just give me a damn sandwich. Anyway, it was all in good fun. I can see what other Unilocalers are talking about when they mention the friendly staff. My coworker informs me that she love’s Pat’s, but always feels ill after eating there. I have mentally steeled myself for what comes next. So far, so good. This was totally worth the shlep down the pike. How to get there from inside BWH: walk down the pike towards exit 9. There’s a very small«coffee shop» sign on the left, before the exit. Pat’s is to the left.

Just got a «meatball» sub from Pat’s Place. The meat was oily, loosely packed – more like watery manwich than meatball. There were no meatballs to be found. I ended up throwing the whole thing out as it also tasted bad! The food is cheap, but you get what you pay for.

best breakfast deal in town! the bacon is such good quality and the price for that w/home fries, toast, one egg & coffee OMG! soooo yummy I get it every Thurs w/my BFF. I’ve eaten at Pat’s for 15 yrs and never tasted anything from there that was not good :) If you happen to work in the Longwood Medical Area or are at an appt in the hospital you should stop by to enjoy a really good breakfast, you will not be unhappy!

I’ve got to bring this average down to reflect reality: this is a below-average sub and sandwich shop. It’s basically only slightly removed from the BWH cafeteria.

Good! Cheap! Convenient to Longwood, but not if you don’t know the area. I’ve only ever come in the back way from the Harvard Medical School side, I can never find it if I come in from the Brigham side… It’s a working class kinda place, with good quality, not fancy food. The sandwiches are AWESOME, and breakfast is delicious. They’re quick and friendly. You can’t get a seat for lunch though, its packed, like line out the door packed, but so worth the wait. I always try to get there at 1130am if i want a sammy for lunch. That’s when the rush first starts to build.

Awesome steak and cheese subs!!! A little tough to find but well worth looking for. Really friendly staff and very inexpensive. All in all, a great place to pick up a cheap breakfast or lunch in the harvard medical area.

You’ll find Pat’s on the Northeast side of the 15 Francis Street Lobby of BWH — Exit 9 on «The Pike». If you have trouble getting there just flag down anyone with a steaming to-go box and a half giddy, half guilty smile on their face. Pat’s has greasy food that is nothing special and will have you delaying your next meal by a few hours and passing up the stairs for an elevator. It’s cheap, quick, tasty enough and meets all bare minimum servsafe requirements. If you have time or a few dollars more in your pocket there are better places in Brigham Circle.

I was really impressed with their espresso! And though slightly confused about how I wanted it, they guys behind the counter rolled with it — which is amazing. I can not tell you how many people give me crap for wanting espresso and a cup of ice on the side. To pour it into. Seriously, it tastes great. I have not had any food here, but it seems like a good old fashioned sammichy grill. I keep meaning to, but with only ½ hour for lunch, and being ALLTHEWAY down the pike, I never seem to make it.

A tasty made-to-order turkey burger for under $ 3 served with a smile? Yes please! Cons include it being hard to find, and the chaotic ordering system that seems to have no rhyme or reason.

So I’m downgrading a star because I’m starting to get annoyed at how crappily this place manages the crowd at lunchtime. Their whole system of order on one side then pay on the other and free for all in the middle while you wait for the subs to be ready is a pain. On 2 separate occasions I have totally had my sub snagged by someone else who clearly ordered after me, but happened to be quicker to respond to the guy who was passing out the completed subs. They have also forgot to make a sub for 2 different people I work with who eventually had to be like where is my sub after waiting for way too long. I find this really annoying and now refuse to go here from 12 – 1 as I don’t feel like dealing with it. So its only a late lunch place now for me even though the steak subs are still by far the best in the area.

Okay, so I wrote a review previously about their fantastic eggplant parm sub. My new fave? The Italian sub. Cheap, delicious, and totally hits the spot. Try it. You’ll like it.

I cannot believe that I’ve been walking past Pat’s Place for over a year without ever wondering in. It’s my mistake. Here’s the run down: fast service, large sandwiches, friendly cooks and under $ 5. I ordered the best steak and cheese I’ve had in Boston. The longwood area is filled with fast food and cafeterias, making it difficult to find food that isn’t mass produced. Pat’s Place fills this niche in my mind, thus I intend on becoming a regular.

Pat’s Place is definitely not the easiest place to find, unless you know exactly where to look. I took«The Pike» from CHB thru the Brigham all the way to the end and its kind of under the stairs. A «café» sign caught my eye. Pat’s is a nice change of pace from the fast-food chains along Longwood Ave. Very reasonably priced — $ 9 bought lunch for 2 including sandwiches chips and drinks. I hit it up at 1:00 and it was busy, but still got my food promptly. I would like to check it out for breakfast sometime.

From the Brigham site: «provides grill food, sandwiches and salads.» Weekdays 6 am-5pm Hidden gem. Great breakfast sandwiches, eggs and potatoes, cheese steaks. A+++++++ The cooks are fun too. They gave me a hard time when I ordered a cheese steak without cheese. Now whenever I come in, they remember… and shout funny one-liners to one another about my anti-cheese order.
