Something STRANGE happened. The waiter brought us the bill folded at the«suggested tip» sentence, which was circled with a thick line! Then he wrote thank you! We found that quite odd. Im not from Boston so I’m not sure if thats a normal thing to directly ask the customer for tip in restaurants here. I wish someone could enlighten me on what does that mean. Lol. Other than that Service was ok. Food was good.

Cute little place. Stumbled in from the snow on my visit to Boston. Found space at the bar. The bruschetta was ok nothing special but not bad, the bolognese was amazing! Love! The service was eh, the servers and bartenders all talked negatively about work so that’s a downer.

Depressing. That is the one word that sums up our latest experience. My wife and I have been coming to the Back Bay location since 2005(the Dartmouth Street Days) and have praised the establishment up until this evening. The restaurant was like a ghost town. Mind you, it was 5:30PM on a Saturday and the Patriots were playing, which brings me to the biggest complaint: are we at a Southie sports bar?! The bar staff were trashy and conversing with themselves more than the customers – about football and Making a Murderer. Great, the staff are sports fans and following the latest binge content from Netflix. I’m not going to judge you for that, but I will paint a negative picture of you and your business when you act unprofessional and crude. To sum it up: the service was crap; the food was good(though the portions seem to be shrinking, maybe an effect of changing clientele and lack of business).

The best Italian food that I have had in a long time! This place is a treasure, and the atmosphere is amazing as well. Ten out of ten would recommend.

FOOD: Shared the calamari fritti(fried calamari) between 4 people which had a large amount. We ordered puttanesca pizza, orecchiette salsiccia, gnocchi di sorrento, and pollo parmigiano(chicken parm). Out of the four, the orecchiette salsiccia was the best, with just the right amount of olive oil and garlic mmm. Everything else was great but not outstanding. SERVICE: Waiter was friendly, but could have been more attentive. Our table settings were off, with missing napkins, and it took a while to reach to ask for more. Our bread was cold and I always ask for bread to be warmed up and that also took a few minutes to flag down our waiter. Twice we just had to ask other waitstaff to help us out. AMBIANCE: Large space so we were able to get a 4 person table quickly Monday night at 7:00pm. Even though it was Monday there was still a ton of people! Maybe because it was Thanksgiving week?

That restaurant sucks. Made a reservation through Opentable in advance for thanksgiving’s dinner. I drove 5 hours from New Jersey and we were on time in the restaurant. Half an hour before our reservation time I got an email cancelling it. I went to the restaurant and they didn’t offer me any option except to stay with my two kids in the bar. Unprofessional, rude, disrespectful, disappointing… It definitely SUCKS

Food was uneven. Some dishes good, others mediocre. Surprisingly very few seafood dishes on menu Service was good, just not impressed by overall experience.

Good food & drinks!!! I got a pizza flatbread and was delicious! I liked the bathroom– they had real towels instead of the paper kind. I got a peach martini… can’t remember what it was called, was really sweet and yummy but also weak in alcohol– don’t come here to pre-game lol

Went for brunch, got seated quickly. The place is very clean and staff is friendly. I had the eggs Benedict that were incredible and my cousin had the raspberry french toast. Both delicious. Coffee was freshly brewed and delicious! Highly recommended! The kitchen is visible and I had a great time seeing the chef cook!

Waited less then ten minutes on a busy Saturday night for awesome seating outside under the lamps. Food was quick and delicious. Chicken PARM and ravioli were both done right. Great sauce and chicken was pounded out thin and tender. Really don’t have any complaints from this visit.

I used to love this restaurant when it was located on the corner of Newbury street. The new location has the added benefit of a lovely outside terrace. I ate outside with my parents on a rent trip to Boston. We started with the Bruschetta, and it was the oddest one I’ve ever had. Rather than diced fresh tomatoes on top, everything was smushed together with mozzarella. None of us liked the dish. My Mother ordered the Insalata Di Campo but they served her the Insalata Di Mela! We waited forever for the dishes and did not want to waste any more time by sending it back. My Father and I both had the Insalata Di Papa. The salads were light and tasty, but somewhat small for the price. Go for the outdoor seating, but not the food or the service.

I came here this past weekend with my parents and roommate. We just came for drinks but the place was pretty crowded(it was Saturday evening so we weren’t surprised). We were able to find 4 seats at the bar which was pretty convenient. The bartenders were pretty busy so we got a slow start to order. The drinks were definitely made well. As we were leaving All the meals around me looked so delicious! I definitely need to come back here to sit and an enjoy a meal. The menu had some amazing choices.

As an avid restaurant goer, I tend to have high expectations out dining however will compromise bad service for better taste. I will be back for the food but service was appalling by management. Think before going here as there are much better places this the area that will Not make you choose between service and taste. I will spread the word.

We waited 45 mins to be seated outdoors. First time here and not impressed about the food. I will not be returning. If you are here for pizza better head to dirty dough down the street. Papa razzi has Fast service(my food was served quickly after the waitress took our order) but tasteless food! My pizza crust was half burned and chicken parmiciano was not well done. Was the chef in a hurry to deliver?

Not impressive at all. I usually try to make my Unilocal reviews about the positives, but this place really dashed our expectations, even knowing that we weren’t exactly going in for a first class experience. The service was slow. No, I mean really slow. We sat for probably 15 minutes(fortunately, I was in good company) waiting for a server to come take our order. This set the tone for the rest of the evening, as the gaps in between visits from our server were consistently long. We never got the glasses of water we asked for, and there were several times that we had to flag our server down to get things we needed. They were apparently understaffed, as the hostess was bussing tables. There were a couple of times when people were waiting at her station while she cleared a table for another party. A restaurant of this size should most definitely have a bus staff to cover this task. The food was inconsistent. The bruschetta had good flavor, but the bread was sparse and quickly wound up very soggy. The spaghetti bolognese was really good, with the pasta cooked al dente and the pancetta gave it a nice pop of flavor that’s not always part of a bolognese sauce. The risotto was a joke. Risotto should be thick, creamy, goodness. This was basically just steamed rice tossed with some vegetables. I’m not even convinced that they even used arborio to make it, it just looked, felt, and tasted like standard long grain white rice. The orecchiette was, as with the spaghetti, cooked to a nice al dente, but the sauce was bland and boring. Fortunately, the manager comped the dish with the risotto, so at least we didn’t waste our money on that. Hopefully they were just having an off night, but we won’t be going back. There are a ton of other great restaurants in the area where a Benjamin is much more wisely spent.

This place is bigger than I initially thought. Nice Italian restaurant off busy Newbury St. As most spots on Newbury outdoor seating, this is one to add to the list. We opted to sit inside as there was a little wait to sit outdoors, which is to be expected on a Friday evening. Our waitress was pleasant. Loved our fresh Italian bread and spicy olive oil. I ordered chicken Parmesan, which on a scale from 1 – 10, would be a 6.5. Huge portion, but it was a tad too salty. The coal fired pizza was delicious! Calamari was a 7. It was nice they offered us a rewards card since we did say we’d come back. The price was just right and the Napa Valley Cab made it all worth while. The rewards card gives you $ 25 towards a meal at each $ 300 you spend. Yeah!

Ive been here many times and i really tried to like it but i don’t. First off, service has never been spectacular. Sometimes almost snobbish. I have been seated once on the ground floor near the kitchen where the door flings open and close and it was a disgusting experience. I have literally tried every dish on the menu because we dined as a really big group and nothing stood out to me. It wasn’t spectacular and the taste wasn’t well balanced. I could have made better food at home. It either felt too creamy, greasy or just. meh alright. The only reason why its still in business is probably because of its incredible location and space. But. would i come back? No.

This place is a solid 3.5 stars. Parking: Metered street parking. We were walking around Boylston Street. And, I asked several different groups of people walking for food recommendations. No matter age group nor gender, they all seem to recommend this place for pasta/italian food. This is a two-story restaurant. Hostess: We did not have a reservation nonetheless, we were warmly greeted and did not have to wait long for a table. We were escorted upstairs. I would have to agree that the place felt upscale but without any pretentiousness. Server: I wished I remembered his name. We had a lovely banter about the daily special and his fondness for haddock. Food: I don’t remember my guest’s dish but she loved it. I ordered the seafood diablo. Normally, I don’t order squid(I tried to see if they could substitute for another item). But with some confusion about the special, I gave in and ate it the way it came. It was pretty good. The squid was not overcooked and tough to chew. Overall, this place is good. The service and food was good. Based on this being filled with restaurants, their prices were not exorbitant. I would recommend this place.

What an absolute delight! After wandering around Boston looking for italian food we stumbled in here after seeing Unilocal reviews. I called when we were 3 minutes away at 8:00 on a Monday night to see if they had a wait for 4 people. They didn’t. When I got there we were greeted nicely — he knew I was the person who called — and despite appearing to be full, they seated us at a large table immediately. We had an excellent waiter and a waitress in training — all in all the service was fantastic. As for the food: AMAZINGBRUCHETTA! Great house wine from montepulciano, stellar(and humongous) chicken parmigiana with a side of gnocchi in pink sauce, and the lobster tortellini were phenomenal. The tiramasu was dreamy, but a bit dry. They’ve started this new«Mangia Mondays» where all entrees were $ 15.95, so even though things are a bit on the expensive side, you get great service, super huge amounts of food and a great location. Moral of the story: Worth it, worth it, worth it. I had so much fun and would go again in a heartbeat.
