A local favorite of ours. Never a long wait, cozy atmosphere, reasonably priced, and menu and wine list always seem to have 3 or 4 things that I really want to try. I’ve visited probably 8 or so times and never left unsatisfied.

Went there for dinner and it was delicious! The food is so flavorful and unique. I had the cauliflower and my boyfriend had the scallops, and they both had amazing sauces and toppings. On the pricey side, but worth it for a nice occasion.

I hosted my birthday dinner here on a Saturday night. We were a party of 12, and it’s very small inside, but they happily accommodated our reservation and had our table set off to the side so we had plenty of room and it also felt quite private. The wait staff was friendly and patient — we were celebrating a birthday AND an engagement so there was a lot of chatter, a lot of drinking/toasts, but they just let us take our time and enjoy the evening. The food was incredible — we tried several small plate appetizers before ordering individual entrees and everyone was impressed. Plenty of options for vegetarians and meat-eaters alike. Walking in with a large party might not work for the space but again they were super helpful when booking something a week or so in advance. I look forward to going back and trying something different!

Our first time at the Metropolis Café today and it was a wonderful experience. Yes it’s small, yes there is a wait but it’s well worth it. Fabulous drinks, awesome food & friendly service. We were four people and each dish we ordered was par excellence. Our waiter was patient and constantly smiling. Even though we went for brunch and they don’t have any dessert on the menu, they prepared a special dessert for a b’day celebration. For a small venue we didn’t feel rushed. Highly recommend it and will definitely go back again.

I came here on a Saturday and there was no wait at all. It was a good thing as I wasn’t prepared to wait an hour for breakfast food. The décor was NYC chic and the menu was pretty solid. I got the roasted granola with Greek yogurt and it was really good. My friend got the roasted kale salad with poached egg. We didn’t want anything too heavy so we pretty happy with our choices.

Excellent ! This is a great spot. I have not been in several years and it did not disappoint. The food was fantastic and the service was attentive and timely in the bustling South End We had the asparagus tartar and kale salad as starters. For entrees, the salmon was amazing and the vegetarian cauliflower entrée was enough for three! We easily shared all dishes and the relaxed environment allowed us a long stay enjoying conversation. We will be back very soon.

I love metropolis. They have limited seating, but the bar area has about 8⁄9 seats at the bar first come first serve. Be sure to make reservations prior, and always call if you have more than 4 people in your party. The food is absolutely delicious every time I’ve been. Chicken is usually the last entrée I’ll choose from any restaurant menu, but at Metropolis– this chicken is heavenly! I actually combine the chicken and cauliflower dish together to get the best of both worlds! :) it is a special request and more money but definitely worth every bite! Everything on the appetizer is great too. My fave is the asparagus tartare, Brussel sprouts, and beet salad. I’ve tried the other apps as well, and they don’t disappoint! Just the right amount of salt and the right balance in every dish!

We came here for brunch, and i wasnt too excited about the menu as it was your typical brunch options. I decided to try the huevos rancheros though, and it was much better than I expected. Not too heavy, and a perfect balance of eggs, meats, and all the fixings. They also fry the tortillas into tiny little strips, which adds some crunch to it.

Stopped here for brunch 2 weeks ago. The huevos rancheros were some of the best I ever had! Unusual and very tasty. We sat at the bar, as there were no tables, and the bartender was friendly and efficient.

Metropolis Café is a solid brunch place. Surprised of the lack of lines outside their door on a Saturday morning, so all the more reason to drop by for a delicious morning meal! Service is pretty quick, with attentive servers bringing around the coffee. We ordered the cheesy eggs & grits(w/spicy chorizo) and the smoke stack. I didn’t really taste any cheese in the eggs, and the dish was rather small for the price. More of a filler dish, with the most flavorful part being the chorizo. The smoke stack was also alright. More on the moist side, thumbs up for the blueberries in the pancakes.(In anything, for that matter!). Bacon was also delicious, as always. Another basic, go-to dish for a crisp morning brunch.

Food incredibly mediocre(not bad but just okay) Ordered a pancake for a side, and it was regtful, especially after I saw a worker walk in with a box of pancake mix. Waiter came across as indifferent. Unfortunately so did i. 2 stars for the cute set up of the restaurant.

Honestly very mediocre. Service was sub par, it took us 45 minutes for us to get our food when the restaurant was mostly empty. Portions are SOSMALL we were still hungry when we left. I ordered the pastrami hash and it was flavorless. Pancakes were tight

I loved my first dinner experience here, everything was so good! Opted out of the restaurant week menu because the dinner menu items looked more promising. The braised lamb shank was delicious. Coffee crème brûlée had that perfect caramelized crunch and a nice heavy flavor. The blueberry ricotta cake was light and even though the cake texture looked dry and thick it was not crumbly at all

Metropolis is such a cute romantic spot in the south end. We went for my birthday and got a few things we remembered being awesome, and they were. We started with the mussels(my favorite dish here) and the Brussel sprout salad– both delicious. The Brussels are in a cheese/Cream sauce, good but not light. For meals, my husband got the lamb shank and I got cod. Lamb was tasty and a huge portion, cod was tasty but small protein portion. To drink I got the aperol spritz which is off the old drink menu but they made anyway! For desert we got the blueberry cake, which was good-filled with blueberries. Service was fine. Overall great spot!

metropolis is a great little spot tucked in the south end. I went with a few girlfriends so we decided to split a few appetizers and entrees. the crudité was simple but had a very delicious hummus. we also tried a chicken dish and a pasta dish, both were very good and great portions. it appears as though the menu frequently changes which makes me look forward to going back to try additional things.

I’ve walked past this place all too often, so my girlfriend & I decided to finally check it out. It was surprisingly busy for a Wednesday night, but we were able to snag a seat from a couple that was leaving as we entered. The woman who initially greeted us was kind & friendly, but our server seemed to be annoyed. She wasn’t the most attentive. Place is very small, and the tables are very close together, so it was difficult to sit & feel relaxed. I ordered the Veal scallopini which was just okay. The Cauliflower gratin it came with was much more delicious. My date had the Salmon, which was apparently just as bland as mine. Metropolis does not have a full liquor license which was kind of a bummer. With so many other options on Tremont St., I doubt I’ll come back.

I have been coming here for years. The brunch is always well prepared, the Blueberry pancakes are always tasty. I had dinner here last night. It was a busy Sunday night which is unusual but a lot of people have the week off as its in between Christmas and New Years. It was just the hostess and one Waiter on the floor and they both did and excellent job, specifically the waiter. We sat at the lunch counter. My friend had the Veal and I had the Venison special, both were excellent. We did not have dessert this time but I recommend the Chocolate Pudding Cake which they have had on the menu for years and is one of the best desserts around still. I see many reviews complain about the portions, keep in mind that this is fine dining and its not cheap and if you are looking for huge portions, best to go elsewhere. That said Metropolis makes a great date night as well. I actually went with an ex but that works too! LOL

I’ve been here for both dinner and brunch, and I definitely think that the dinner wins out. Brunch is still solid, but a little bit more standard(not a bad thing). For dinner, I had the sweet potato gnocci with chantarelles in a thyme and brown butter sauce. The gnocci were incredible, and the sauce was unbelievably good. I also tried my dining companion’s macerated chicken and truffle oil risotto — hard to go wrong with this one. The risotto was very well prepared, neither soggy nor too al dente. I had a few bites of the chessboard pumpkin pie as well. I’m not a big pumpkin pie person, but will admit that this pie was above average — not too sweet, and not too big of a portion either. For brunch, I’ve had the union square(I think?) omelet. It’s a 3-egg affair with chorizo, cotija cheese, smoky corn and salsa. It was a pretty good omelet, but a bit underwhelming. The side of home fries was good though, but again, nothing out of the world. Good, strong coffee. I was a little annoyed that they forgot to mention the brunch special which sounded much more interesting that what’s on the menu. To be fair though, this is one of the few places in Boston that I’ve found to serve a very solid full brunch menu(vs. one that is half brunchy, half other stuff) so I’ll give them credit for that. Finally, Metropolis does bill itself as a «wine bar» and the wine selection is pretty extensive, and worth checking out. It also has a great neighborhood ambiance, which is neither too pretentious nor too hipster. I highly recommend it, especially for dinner.

I went to Metropolis recently for a birthday dinner – very cozy and yummy spot in the South End! I definitely recommend the Burrata Tartine and Roasted Brussels Sprouts Salad for apps. For dinner, I got the chicken & truffled mushrooms risotto, which was delicious. I tried the roasted chicken dish as well, the mashed potatoes were great. The cons: a bit overpriced and very cramped seating. We sat at a table of 4 and had no room for our coats & purses. I want to go back and try brunch in the future!

Cutest neighborhood restaurant ever! We had a great experience, our server was very friendly and we were seated promptly. The menu looked fantastic too, but we opted for the Prix Fix menu. Butternut squash gnocchi was pillowy soft but filling and the crème brûlée was dense and rich. Will def be coming back again

The food tasted fine at Metropolis but it was hideously overpriced given the tiny portions of edible food. My husband ordered the Berkshire pork chop. It was over 60% bone and gristle. There was so little edible meat in the pork chop that he ate again when we got home. My fish was fine, nothing to write home about. Smaller portions as well. So disappointing since Metropolis looks like the kind of place where there would be plentiful portions of good food. Not so. I usually do not fill out comment cards, but the pork chop was so problematic that I did write about it. No response, which is fine. We just won’t be back — there are so many better options on Tremont!

A perfect definition of four stars for me. Metropolis had really tasteful décor(casual but cute) a well-priced menu(~10 for a brunch entrée) with a lot of variety, and good service. Not somewhere that I’m raving about or craving to go to the very next day, but I’d definitely come back or visit when friends are in town.

Went here with a friend to grab a bite to eat on a Sunday night. Surprisingly, we nearly had the place to ourselves and were easily seated at one of the window seats. To start off the meal, we decided to get an order of the barrata, as well as the roasted Brussels sprouts salad. The barrata was great – so nice and refreshing on a muggy night in Boston. My only complaint is that I wish they split the burrata on to two pieces of bread, since it ended up being quite a large bite. The roasted Brussels sprouts salad may have been the best Brussels sprouts dish I’ve ever had! So many places these days have oven-baked or pan-fried Brussels sprouts and they are always pretty good. I don’t know exactly what this place does, but the salad has this sort of chewy texture that just made it impossible to stop eating. For our entrees, we decided to split the rigatoni and the monk fish. The rigatoni was a decent-sized portion and the sauce was super meaty and flavorful. The pasta was a tad overcooked, but the dish was quite tasty. The monk fish was prepared well, and was served with some great sauces. The succotash and the pea purée were very good as well. I just wish they had more of the burr blanc with the fish, since it paired so nicely. To finish the meal, we went with the citrus almond layer cake. I did not know what to expect from this dessert, but it was a slice of cake with a large dollop of whipped cream and a good amount of strawberries. This was probably the least exciting dish of the meal, but it still had some good flavors. I just wish the lemon curd was more evenly distributed throughout. Overall, this is a cute little restaurant right on the main drag in the South End. The food was fantastic, the service was friendly, and the new space has a lot of character. It is a little pricey, but definitely worth checking out for a nice meal.

I am an avid brunch fan. Metropolis offered me the traditional brunch food I was so craving. It can get really busy here – I tried coming some time ago but the wait was extremely long so I eagerly arrived at 9:30am today for brunch. Definitely could’ve gotten away with getting there later today, but we were seated quickly and I was happy as a clam. I ordered the Triple Deuce, which came with two amazingly chewy and delicious pancakes, two eggs of your choice(scrambled for me), and two really awesome slices of bacon that were thick, yet crispy. Such a simple meal, and so so satisfying. My boyfriend ordered the Shawmut omelette and enjoyed it. The home fries were seasoned perfectly as well. Our waiter was attentive, and the one huge plus Metropois had was that our food came out SOOO quickly. I swear most restaurants take 15+ minutes to get you your food, but Metropolis delivered our meal before the thought«where’s my food?» crossed my mind. Nothing super flamboyant about the offerings, but it’s straight to the point, delicious, and the restaurant itself is very cute. Definitely would recommend!

My friend SY F. chose this restaurant, and I’m delighted by her choice! As other reviewers have explained, this establishment is small and quiet — perfect for intimate encounters of all sorts. We spent a happy ninety minutes enjoying an excellent endive salad(termed the Belgian Endive Salade on their online menu) and two perfect main dishes: their rigatoni with sausage and the Pan Roasted Natural Chicken. I had a glass of one of the three featured rosés: a rosé of pinot noir by my friends at Calera.

I had high expectations for Metropolis, given my love for the other restaurants that are included in the family that owns Metropolis. Sometimes going in with a high bar set, it just sets you up for disappointment. I would say there is only one thing I was disspaointed my at Metropolis. That is the service… and service can truly make or break an experience. We had a group of 5. Metropolis is small, very small. It has tiny tables, and tiny booths. There really is no way to realistically seat a party greater than 4. Now when arriving, there was several open 2 person tables, several open booths. And yet the hostess flatly looked confused, and irritated that I had a party of 5. She said just to «wait».. Wait for what?! It’s not like there was going to be any more open tables then there already was! She didn’t even try to come up with a creative way to seat us, and seemed just disinterested and annoyed. I approached her with 2 different options– we could sit in a booth(we are small girls), or could we push 22person tables together? She flatly said ‚” You can try but you won’t fit”. Ouch. Let me just say that we were able to sit, and we had ample amounts of space. Without her even trying, or consdiering options, just really bothered me. Once seated, it took a while for a servor to come over. Many things on the menu looked very enticing. I couldn’t decide if I wanted sweet or savory, so I went with a little bit of both. Pancakes, eggs and bacon. MmmMmm. It was SO good! The décor is very cute and quaint. You feel like you are in a café in Paris. Especially with our booth window seat, watching all the wealthy South Enders walk by. The environment of Metropolis transported you to a different lifestyle in a different city. Had my experience been better with the staff, this rating would be a 5.

Unfortunately I can’t comment on the food– bf and I only came here for drinks around 5ish on a Saturday night in Boston. Fortunately we were able to snag bar seats(it’s small– as is the entire restaurant) before the rush. They had a nice selection of wines that ranged in variety and price.(like you could find something for under $ 10 a glass) I’m a sucker for Austria Gruner so I loaded up on that(was a bit dryer than my usual preference), and a glass of Italian Barbera. Bf had the Malbec and a spicy Spanish wine whose name escapes me. They were kind enough to give us bread service(which comes with whole roasted garlic and olive oil) even though we just had drinks. The food seemed good– typical new American fare; the ambiance was really nice– perfect for a date night around in the South End. I *heard* this was the same owners as Gaslight Brassiere(that is a place I truly love!)

The vibe was really low key and relaxing. Come here for solid preparation of many café classics at really fair prices. There’s nothing fancy or inventive about their food but the cooking execution is what puts them on top. The space is small and intimate there’s a U shaped bar in the middle, the side has some tables and the far left has some booth seating. Seating is pretty intimate here. Lighting is low and there’s jazz playing in the background. Rope grown PEI mussels $ 11.75 with toasted fennel, shallots, crushed tomatoes and sambuca. Good dish to share. Mussels are fresh and cooked perfectly. Pan roasted natural chicken $ 21.75 with oyster mushrooms, mashed potatoes and savour own drippings. If you want a good homey comfort dish — this is the one. The chicken breast is seared and roasted and has so much flavour while staying very moist and succulent. The gravy and potatoes are exceptional. Black pearl salmon $ 23.85 — horseradish crusted with warm cucumbers, crème fraîche and salmon roe. I wasn’t sure about warm cucumbers but it was very good. The entire dish was fantastic. The salmon was cooked perfectly — skin was seared and the interior was just right. All the flavours worked well as the crème fraîche gave this dish a nice tang. Complimentary bread was great — chewy crusty crust with olive oil and roasted garlic to dip with. Service was friendly and food service was good.

I came here for brunch and it was just ok. Nothing memorable really. I ordered the salmon eggs benedict and my boyfriend got the huevos ranchos. I thought the benedict was average tasting. Eggs were a bit overcooked. Salmon was really fresh though. But my boyfriend thought his huevos ranchos was pretty yummy so maybe try that instead? The restaurant itself is really small. I would say larger groups of 5 or more might have trouble getting seating here.

Nice brunch place. Interior is very cute and small. You can sit yourselves anywhere you like. Hostess forgot to give us menus when we sat down though… I got smoked salmon egg benedict and my friend got an omelette. Their home fries were really good! I’ve had better smoked salmon egg benedict, nothing special. Don’t get me wrong, food still tasted good. My friend asked if she can switch cheese with spinach. Waiter said that’d be no problem, but charged extra $ 1 for spinach on our bill. Her omelette also came with two pieces of toast, which she described tasting«like cardboards.» Maybe they just tasted too healthy, but she finished them lol. Enjoyed my Saturday early afternoon. Guess just didn’t have luck with customer service this time.

Came here for brunch and it was okay. I’m not so sure what constitutes an amazing brunch place anymore because I feel like the menus are all pretty similar everywhere and you can’t go wrong with a smoked salmon eggs benedict unless the yolk is not runny. In addition, I also got the scrambled eggs with cheese and chorizo, but I didn’t really see the cheese come through and they were pretty skimpy with the chorizo. I honestly thought the chorizo would flavor the eggs, but it didn’t do that either. Kind of a disappointment. The potatoes were not very good either. Not crispy and had a little burnt taste. I’m assuming they were just using a pan with burnt remains because the potatoes were mushy and burnt at the same time. Mimosas were good, but expensive. I think I spent a lot of money for okay diner status brunch.
