I stopped in here today to get a bottle of water. There is a hand written sign at the cashier counter that reads, «No you can’t pay tomorrow, so don’t even ask,» and a little boy in front of me with his after school snack money wanting an empanada from behind the counter. Cashier: «You still owe me from yesterday, you know.» Boy: «I know, I’ll pay you tomorrow.» Cashier: «How are you doing in school. Getting good grades?» Boy: «Yes» Cashier: «Okay here(hands empanada). Do you remember how much you still owe me?» Boy: «Two dollars?» Cashier: «No. Just 50 cents. Now be good!» Boy: «Okay, bye!» Cashier: «What do you say?» Boy: «Thank you!» I then assured her I will be paying in full today, so no need to start a tab with me. After a bit of small talk, I left. It’s nice to have such a personable woman with a soft side behind the counter of a random gas station in the middle of the hood. The empanadas didn’t look too bad, either.
