My favorite Indian dish is paneer tikka masala and India express is my favorite place to get it, hands down. Friendly service and convenient location makes this spot my go-to place for a quick lunch or dinner in Woburn.

I cant really figure out what everyone hates about this place. You get a ton of food for like $ 6 – 7, or even less. I easily make two lunches out of one container. I typically stand there for a long time trying to decide if I want chicken teka marsala, pakoras, veggies, a special, etc. They patiently wait for me while I decide, and often ask questions. I admit that they could have better rice but once you mix your entrée with it you can’t be too unsatisfied. I have had several veggie options there. Their curried veggies are really good. I really like the cauliflower– good texture and spice. The pakoras are decent, def not fresh from the fryer but their curried pakora is really good. The vindaloo sauce is really spicy and really good. I def get some added some to everything I get there. CC minimum is $ 6 and the meals come to 5.80ish so I just let them charge me $ 6 so i don’t have to deal with having or digging cash out of my bag.

I wish I would have read these reviews before wasting my money here. I agree with what’s been said: the food is meh, the prices aren’t great, and the service – for a fast food joint! – is bad. I stood there for a minute or two while they talked to each other, glancing occasionally at me, but taking their time to actually address me. And then like the Woody Allen story, the portions are nothing. A small bed of rice with two splashes of tikka massala and some potatoes and peas. When I asked for a bag, she looked around for one, found one, then opened it for me, expecting me to put the food into the bag, even though I only had one hand free. And then no utensils. Awesome. I wish I were closer to Super 88. Update: I just threw the remaining half of my lunch away. It just wasn’t worth the energy of the chewing and swallowing.

About every three months, I cave in and get food from this place. I’m not sure why. The food tastes like something the meat-and-potatoes cooks in your grade school cafeteria would make if you handed them an Indian cookbook. The prices, while not exorbitant, aren’t any bargain(you’ll spend $ 7 or $ 8 for a combo, which, I’m sorry, is still more than you ought to be spending for a food court lunch). The people behind the counter aren’t paragons of wit and gracious conversation. But it is the only Indian food in Downtown Crossing, and the only Indian food within walking distance that doesn’t involve linen tablecloths and $ 10-plus lunch entrees. So I still go here now and then, and loathe myself each time. Downtown Crossing needs needs needs a good Indian buffet. Even an okay Indian buffet. Or an okay Indian food court place. What it has… is India Express. Life could be better.

It is always scary to walk up to eat at a place that has… No… One… There. I wasn’t even sure if it was closed. But I walked up and spoke to the 2 people working there. They were actually delightfully pleasant. Now let’s get this out there first. This is Indian food from a food court. This is NOT Diva or Namaskar(better than Diva, but not as well known.) Whenever I go to any restaurant for the first time I always order the staples, Deli’s grilled chicken subs or salads, Italian places, chicken Parm, etc. I find it a good way to judge. SO… we ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala, and Aloo Mutter with rice. To Start with, the portions were more than ample, lots of rice, meat, sauce.(I am looking 3 months pregnant at this moment due to the ampleness) The food flavors were enjoyable, but they were 6.50 enjoyable for 2 dishes, not spectacular as you would expect for 8.50−13.50 per dish. The one thing I was a bit disappointed by was the rice, it did not seem to be Basmatti to me. I also didn’t try the Naan which could easily be substituted and I will try the next time. In summation… Go here, eat well,(maybe don’t be an idiot and eat it all in one sitting), and enjoy the disaster known as Downtown Crossing.
