Always a go to establishment for all my trips into the city, on this occasion I was met with a delightful welcome by a host who was more than accommodating to my needs. The atmosphere was delightful and the provisions were well stocked. Stop by Gagarin House whenever you are in the area.

A peculiar but charming bed and breakfast owned by a Russian gentlemen in the back bay. Gagrin house is marked by an eclectic lobby that contains seemingly unrelated bric a brac from University of North Carolina Garden gnome to a photo of Larry Bird(still wrapped in plastic) to very comfortable french country house furniture in the waiitng area. The proprietor is very freindly at nights but never appears for the breakfast portion of the stay. We think he was sleeping in during our visit and may not understand what Bed and Breakfast means in the U.S. The only time he did wake up early enough to serve breakfast, he actually offered us planters peanuts and scotch which we though was charming but is why I am only giving 4 stars. He really should just advertise as a boutique guest house. Our bed was very comfortable but it was fairly well worn by what the proprietor claimed was a regular guest from New York. This New York guest was so valued that the proprietor even stored some clothing on his behalf. Again, this is an odd place so if you are looking for the traditional hotel, I would reccomend somewhere else in the back bay. If you are looking for a hospitable and comfortable place in the Back Bay for an amazing price check out Gagrin house. Just dont expect the breakfast portion of your stay… unless of course you like scotch and peanuts at 10:00 in the morning.
