The flavor of the sandwiches are quite odd. Glad I had breakfast before coming here for brunch on a Sunday, the portion of the sandwich is on the smaller side. Finding seating for a group of 7 inside was very difficult, so it’s best to come with a smaller amount of people. A bunch of families come here to grab some food and pastries, so beware of the strollers crowding the floor. Also, come early to find street parking since the parking lots start at $ 15 an hour, and you don’t really want to be at this bakery for more than an hour since it’s pretty dark inside.

Ate the Pork Belly Cuban. Great sandwhich. Next trip will include a desert for sure. Long lines, but moves extremely fast. The are clearly a model of efficiency for the speed and quality of food. Décor is fun and clean.

I’ve been to a lot of bakeries and pastry shops in the US and Europe, and Flour is still my all-time favorite. All the Boston/Cambridge locations are equal in quality and selection. I highly recommend you stay simple(something as plain as a sugar cookie or brioche can be better than a complicated cake or tiramisu). I usually prefer to visit the bakery than to order sandwiches or lunch take-out, because the sandwiches have a long wait(because they make them fresh, which is worth the wait for sure…) That said, the sandwiches/breakfast/lunch food are fantastic. My favorite items are the meringues, the coconut macaroons(the Italian kind), the brioche au sucre, the«oreos,» and twice-baked brioche.(and the breakfast sandwiches) I LOVE how they have some gluten free options too. My gf is allergic.

My goal in any new city is to search for the cute café/breakfast spots and Flour seemed like Boston’s favorite! The baked goods are FIIIIIIRE. The route to the cash register includes rows of decadent pastries(homemade donuts, pastries, scones, etc). I got a package of donut strips(kind of like mini churros) and tried to order an egg sandwich. I’m giving four stars because they said they were out of eggs even though there’s an egg in their logo. I think we came a little past breakfast hours but they didn’t say anything about that, just that they were out of eggs. However, I got the artichoke sandwich and that was super yummy and had some type of great sauce on it. This place gets crazy-packed around lunch time. The line was out the door with business people on their breaks. It’s clearly popular for a reason!

We ended up coming here a total of three times on our weekend vacation and every single time, it was really delicious. This evening we ordered the French toast, granola w/milk, an applewood smoked bacon sandwich, one peanut butter cookie with sea salt, a dark chocolate pudding, and a lemon-limeade, which was their drink of the month. The French toast is custardy inside and crispy on the outside, just how I like it. The granola is delicious and is served warm. The applewood smoked bacon(basically a BLT made with arugula) is really really good — the bacon is some of the best I’ve ever had, and their arugula and tomato are remarkably fresh. Of all the desserts we tried, they’re all winners. The peanut butter cookie is the best PB cookie you’ll ever eat, and the dark chocolate pudding made me roll my eyes several times because it was ridiculous how good it was. Perfect dark chocolate flavor with a lot of balance and a creamy texture. The lemon limeade had a hint of mint and was clearly made with fresh fruit juice rather than syrup, and if it’s the drink of the month when you’re in, I highly recommend it. Flour is a fantastic institution in Boston! If we visit again, we will absolutely drop by Flour.

Quick easy in easy out. I had the breakfast egg sandwich which was a square egg(strange), cheese, arugula, tomato and dejonaise. It usually comes with a choice of meat, but I opted out. My boyfriend and I shared a blueberry muffin and I had an iced coffee as well, not the cold brew. The egg sandwich was really good. My boyfriend complained of the dejonaise because it was too spicy/too much on it, but I thought it was fine. The muffin was relatively dry until about half way through. It was loaded with blueberries and really good. The iced coffee was a bit like Starbucks iced americano. If you don’t like strong coffee don’t get it. It’s really cute inside and there are really friendly people working here. The best part is that you just walk up, order and get your food a little while after. It’s good if you don’t feel like waiting outside for a half hour for breakfast. Then again I went early morning.

Breakfast sandwich with egg and ham plus a slice of tomato was the way to go in the morning. The chocolate pastry we ordered was pretty good but it would be better if it was warmed. There are plenty of chocolate filling. Great place for salads and sandwiches, would love to come back for lunch some day.

AREYOUKIDDINGMERIGHTNOW??? I am eating the best BLT sandwich in my life!!! Walked over and the line was completely out the door but well worth the wait. I typically don’t like arugula but *licks fingers* decided to try the BLT anyways. The bacon was thick and juicy. The bread is perfectly grilled *licks fingers* and the tomatoes are sweet. The arugula *licks palm* just ties everything together. The perfect sandwich! *licks plate*

It was a cute clean place with a pretty good sticky bun and cupcake. The cupcake was different from ones in nyc in that the frosting was much lighter — that was a thumbs up! The one sticky bun fed us 3! So share lol it was very good texture, slightly crispy on the bottom, and gooey on top. The toasted walnut or pecans was also releasing a fragrant nutty aroma

Nice place, good service, there’s a decent amount of seating. They do have some interesting pastries but by the time we got there in the afternoon a lot of them were gone. The employees are friendly. The cupcakes are massive. I got a box of assorted pastries to bring home with me to NYC but then I failed big time and forgot them at my friends place so the one thing and most important thing I can’t comment on is the actual taste of the pastries so I guess I will have to come back again next time and get some more.

I went here for every single breakfast during a convention held at the nearby BCEC. Their pastries are solid, some interesting combinations and standard choices. I had the twice-baked brioche, tomato mozzarella pocket, and the country roll. For all the fuss about the pastries, though, nothing stood out to me as an awesome pastry. They were a bit too sugary for my taste. It pretty much felt standard to me. However, their breads are underrated. The country roll was under $ 1 per piece but the complexity of the flavor was there. Maybe the sugar on the pastries were masking the taste of the actual bread, but I think that unique oomph is what’s worth going back for.

Was super excited to come here based on the reviews, but was slightly disappointed, although everything was still pretty good. Boston Cream Pie was delicious, and the chocolate cake was even better after I took it home. I realized when I got mine, it was justttt taken out of the fridge, so the cake was pretty hard. I wish they had let it sit out before serving it to their customers. Had I known I should’ve waited, I would’ve because it was SO much better. I will be back in the future with that tip in mind. Also, from these Unilocal reviews, I wanted to get a sticky buns, but they told me they sell out quickly in the morning.

Wonderful in every way. Especially the staff. Bakery items are to die for. They have so many treats to choose from. I love the Vegan variety and everything is clearly marked. Breakfast egg sandwich is very filling on focaccia bread in the morning or anytime. If you bring your own container they only charge $ 1 for hot coffee. The sandwiches, soups, specials for lunch are well worth the wait. different from what you would expect and they will sell out fast. The staff is wonderful and always happy to help. They always have several people taking orders and lines go fast. Orders come up rather quickly as well. Organized and a very pleasant experience at any time of day.

The potatoes! Why no potatoes! Walking in on a Saturday noon, the place was quite packed. I look around and find what I exactly want, crispy, roasted potatoes. Unfortunately it was not the«menu.» However, be sure to walk forward to find the specials menu by the counter, not the first menu you see. Didn’t work out though, they were out of these incredible looking potatoes that people had their tables. Instead, I ordered a roast chicken sandwich. Along with their Soup of the Day, an incredibly creamy corn and bacon soup, which comes with a huge slice of bread … I made the mistake of ordering a roll, not expecting the bread, though it was still well worth it. A busy joint, a coffee joint combined with a Cosi/Panera, but obviously miles better.

Came here on a Saturday morning look for breakfast I live in seaport and was craving a bacon egg and cheese After 15 minutes of circling meters and not finding anywhere to park I just risked my luck and parked illegally at a resident spot(thankfully I didn’t get a ticket because it wouldn’t have been worth it) They don’t have bagels here. What? So I got bacon and egg on focaccia bread. The egg looked liked a strange yellow square that had been refrigerated for a week and then microwaved.

Flour Bakery is delicious. They have several locations around Boston, including one near MIT in Cambridge, and one in the South End just a few steps away from Massachusetts Ave. I haven’t tried their sandwiches, but they have a variety of fantastic desserts that are beautifully presented. Some of my favorites are the hazelnut almond dacquoise,(a crunchy, rectangular shaped layer cake covered in real hazelnuts and almonds), and the chocolate cream pie(a rich dark chocolate pudding with whipped cream and milk chocolate curls; one slice for $ 5). A lot of people recommend the sticky buns. I’m not really a sticky bun person, since I find that any sticky bun I try ends up being too sticky and too sweet. That being said, Flour does make very good sticky buns. They are light and fluffy, and covered in a delicious sugary syrup — beware though, they are extremely sweet! For the quality of the desserts, I find the prices to be reasonable.

Delicious sandwich shop downtown! I came here for lunch on a weekday and the place was packed, given its convenient, central location. I’m glad there was a line, so that it gave me time to read over the menu. Being the indecisive person I am, this took a while because everything on their menu looks delicious! I like that you can order half or full sandwiches for decent prices(approx. $ 5 and $ 8, respectively). I wasn’t super hungry so I opted for a half roasted chicken sandwich and a coffee. It was very flavorful and just the right amount of food I needed for lunch. I’ve heard good things about their pastries(especially their sticky buns) so I’ll definitely have to try those next time.

I stumbled across Flour in 2013 on a random trip from NYC up to Boston with my friend from LA. Out of sheer randomness ordered a almond macaron and my life has not been the same since. I was visiting a friend in 2014 in Brockton, MA(a good 30⁄40 min ride to Boston) but I made her make that trip with me for the almond macarons. So worth it. Recently, my parents and I road-tripped up to Boston(they are from LA) and the first thing we did? OHYES we did! We stopped by Flour before checking into our hotel. I purchased 20 macarons that day… luckily I handed them out to my friends here in NYC(lest I would have gained some serious macaron weight) and they loved how chewy and almond-y it was. There are tons of bakeries and café’s in NYC but there is no place like Flour! Please open shop in NYC soon!!!

Wow! People told me about this place being good and it certainly hit the spot! Service was great, bathrooms clean, food fantastic! Roast beef sandwich was by far my favorite. The bread was fresh, soft, and didn’t take away from the focus of the sandwich, which was the roast beef. The light mustard that’s added in wasn’t overwhelming and I found myself tempted to order a second. Greek chopped salad was really good. I normally don’t like dressing but it was light enough it didn’t make me want to throw up(I normally do with dressing). Lightly peppered chicken added with chickpeas and tomatoes made this salad a real winner. Boston cream pie was soft, creamy, and mouth melting. Sticky bun had a nice crunchy texture on top and tasted like it’s labeled… It’s sticky and a bun. I’d definitely try this one for a dessert.

I love this pace for breakfast or lunch. There is a front deck so then it is nice you, you can enjoy being outside. There is not a ton of seating(~30 ppl) inside, so it is also good for bonus seating. The baked goods are really fantastic. Good luck not buying a cookie when you’re there. They were staring at me when I was trying to order my sandwich and resisting was impossible! All cookie options are a winner. The sandwich menu changes often, but all options are creative and delicious. Everything is made of order too, so you can make modifications and choose what bread you want. The sweet potato vegetarian sandwich was so good! It was a little sweet, which was nice. It was really big, so I was full until dinner :) The panini options are great too. The cheesy pesto one is so delicious, and very filling as well! Get a drink to go so you can sip it on a bench overlooking the water!

The only things that make me wish I lived in Boston are Flour Bakery and Toscanini’s ice cream. I love the Flour Bakery cookbooks, so I try to buy a ton of new things every time I happen to find myself in the vicinity of a Flour outpost. I love the comforting, sweet flavors Joanne Chang has developed in all her pastries, and they make a mean sandwich, too. The ordering system isn’t flawless, but the line moves pretty quickly and everyone who works here is genuinely friendly. I’m not really a sticky bun person, but I’d never turn down a Flour sticky bun. They’re really good, but almost cloyingly sweet. I honestly can’t finish a whole one myself, but they’re great for sharing. I love the oreos, the sweet breads, the scones, and honestly, pretty much all the baked goods. I’ve tried replicating a few at home, and Joanne Chang’s cookbooks are written well enough that I can make decent facsimiles of some of my favorite treats here(Mom’s granola and the Lola cookies). I had a sandwich here recently that was really excellent and perfect for fall — roasted sweet potato with walnut pesto, apple, blue cheese, and kale. It sounds like a weird combo, but it has great texture and flavor, and doesn’t feel like a brick in your stomach. I’m also a permanent fan of the roast beef with horseradish mayo as well as the curried tuna, and would definitely advocate getting two different half sandwiches for lunch if you’re hungry. I miss Flour… but not enough to leave NYC for good.

If you can get to Flour when it’s not packed, it’s pretty good(actually, it’s always good). Their food — from pastry offerings, to sandwiches, to quiches — are all delicious. The staff is nice, too. The only gripe I have with Flour is that it’s complete insanity at peak times, That’s not their fault, aside from their ordering system being less-than-ideal for such large crowds, and at least your food is likely not to disappoint. On the weekends, there’s barely room to figure out where to stand, where to sit, or even what to do while you wait for your order to come up. It’s just too crowded. If it’s your first time at Flour, the lines and crazy environment can make you feel anxious when trying to place your order, which always drives me nuts. BUT the food is good. Picture a Panera-esque menu, but way better. Ultimately, dealing with all of the craziness seems like less of a burden once you’re finally sitting down and enjoying your meal.

This little bakery is a slice of heaven. They have amazing breakfast sandwiches that could easily feed two, as well as some of the most amazing bakery items I’ve ever tasted. They have a wide variety of goods that are made daily and it is obvious how much the workers love their job. The pastries basically sell themselves, and they have both vegan, vegetarian, and omnivore options to suit any palate. They are nestled in an ideal location for tourists, just off a main street, but the customers seem to be mainly locals. Either way, this place is wonderful and I would absolutely go back if ever in Boston.

Didn’t get to meet Joanne Chang but it was still a pretty sweet experience nonetheless. The sticky buns are popular with customers – I found it excessively sweet, a bit like a doughnut, but it was still enjoyable. I preferred their fancy pop tarts and mint oreos(?). I personally liked the ambience indoors and that they also had some outdoor seating. Wait time was practically nonexistent so props for that. Flour Bakery also had a deli menu which I did not get to try, but would, should I make another visit in the future.

3.5 stars Flour Bakery is a large baked-good, drink and sandwich café in Boston. The first thing I noticed was the size of the establishment. There are many tables of varying sizes, bar seating, and even outdoor seating. We came at night, around 9pm, and there are maybe 5 people working behind the counter. They have a large selection of baked goods. I tried the chocolate oreo-looking thing, and it was pretty good, but dry. I like a lot of moisture in my sweets. I think I need to come back to Flour to try their other dishes to get a better sense of it, but from my experience, it was not that memorable.

This place is the bomb. I make at least one stop at Flour ever trip to the east coast, and over the years my arsenal of things tried at flour has grown to be almost their whole offering. Almost everything I’ve tried here has been good. Some hit out of the ball park. The bad: — the carrot cake caupcake(Flour, you broke my heart with this one) — the breakfast pizza(ok but nothing stunning) Things to die for: — French toast — literally the best French toast I have ever had. The bread they have here is already amazing, the French toast just kills it. Perfectly sweetened and amazing texture of crispy and fluffy. — Banana bread — Apple spice cake — Lemon polenta cookies(packaged to go ones) — the really dense bread I can’t remember what it’s called — oatmeal cookies if you’re in to that kind of thing Also love the lamb sandwich.

Joanne Cheng, you are a queen. Flour Bakery + Café has been on my Boston radar ever since I saw their elusive Sticky Bun on Unique Sweets. I mean aside from the fact that they’re consistently ranked the best bakery on multiple publications and all. Needless to say, I couldn’t leave Boston without going here. My friend and I visited their Waterfront location which is beautiful. It was quiet weekend morning so we didn’t have a wait and we could eat outside while basking in the sun. Perfect, right? How does one decide what to get here? Toughest decision of my day by far. But obviously that sticky bun was on my mind. And I got it. First of all, I love how it’s on their breakfast menu. Something that sweet in the morning is a sure-fire way to start your day off right. The staff was more than friendly and made sure that bun was safely delivered to my plate. Without a doubt, this is the best sticky bun I’ve ever had(and probably ever will have). Even the mechanics are thought out. The dough is light, fluffy but manages to hold that thick, gooey pecan filling. And they top it off with toasted pecans which adds the crunch factor you didn’t know you ever needed. It just all makes sense. I should have seriously considered buying a tray full and shipped them back to NY. Aside from that, even their coffee is great. No matter what you choose, your end result will be nothing short of positive. And your belly will thank you later for sure.

I’m understanding. That’s why I’m giving this place 4 stars instead of 3. Their chocolate cream pie was way too dense and rich for me, and their homemade Oreo was way too buttery and thick. Wish I would have ordered their sticky bun instead. But their blueberry soda was good. Not worth the trek to find this place and sample their pastries. But, I can see why others like this place so much. See, I’m understanding!

Summary: Amazing attention to detail. Delicious and thoughtful. Not to be missed. Don’t go here if you’re watching your weight. Atmosphere: This adorable café has a delightful patisserie type display that draws you in. It is big with the post-exercise crowd during the weekend time with most ladies Lululemon clad. Note the extreme attention to detail. Even with writing on the wall, the font is exact and specific. I would call the font, Winnie the Pooh and it brings an «adorableness» that transcends in all the very specific choices in décor. Service: This is quite a «smart» staff. There is thoughtful listening to match the thoughtful food. They are quite efficient in their taking of order and coordination that ultimately results in your name being called and you receiving delicious yumminess. Food: Breakfast Egg Sandwich: This is worth 5 stars. I’ve had many a bacon and egg sandwich over the years. Joanne Chang managed to make this common favorite«special. The egg is baked into a neat fluffy self-sufficiently tastey square The apple-smoked bacon is a wonderful accompaniment. Coffee: Light or dark blend options are available and correctly described. delightful. Sticky Bun — This is the house favorite. It is extremely sweet. Carrot Cake — Nice carrot usage in the cake itself. Lost a little bit in the icing could have used a touch more cream cheese for my taste. Boston Cream Pie — A fantastic thick meringue. The crust was well done. Quite sensational, even though I don’t love cream pie(but I’m in Boston). Banana Bread — Delicious. I liked this better than the sticky bun and it was tasty the next day as well.
