As a gal whom loves to browse a menu, Dom’s is the perfect place! Dom’s not only gives me plenty of pages of options, but excellent creations made up on the spot! I love it when Dom asks me what I am in the mood for. He clearly loves to cook, and you can taste it in his dishes!

four stars for the awesome atmosphere. its tacky galore and the mafia-esque(?) group of men sitting at a table near us really added to the element. we had a weird experience, as the place was empty except for the mob guys and our group of 3. the service was pretty good, but the table of old school italians kept looking over at us, as if to check on us. the cook or chef or owner…(some other older italian sopranos man) came over and greated us after our food was delivered. he was very very talkative and really nice. the food was pretty damn good too. it was exactly what i would expect from a place that has chianti bottles hanging from above. its not comparable to food in italy, but for old school neighborhood italian, it really is worth it. you gotta go for the whole«shebang»

Terrible experience here — it’s the only place I’ve ever been to in the N. End I didn’t like. It was over a year and a half ago that I visited so some of the details are fuzzy, but I do remember waiting two hours to be seated(I was with my parents, my bf, and his parents, so we had a large group, but we had made a reservation). During that 2 hours of standing we asked repeatedly for bread(we were starving) and never got any. The staff was incredibly rude and couldn’t explain why we couldn’t be seated when we had a reservation. We would have gone elsewhere but it was like 9 pm on a Friday or Saturday night and we figured we wouldn’t have gotten seated much faster anywhere else. It turns out that’s what we should have done, even if we had to wait in line somewhere else, because once we did get seated the service was rude and the food was terrible. Most, if not all, the dishes we ordered were cold. At this point it was probably around 11 pm, so I might be able to excuse the restaurant on this, but based on all the other bad things I won’t be back anyway. I ordered something that had veal in it(tre formaggi, I think) and there was LITERALLY one quarter-sized piece of veal. I complained and they neither offered me a new dish nor a refund. All in all, a miserable experience — one of the few North End restaurants you should really avoid. UPDATE: I hear this place is now closed(why I am not surprised…), so I guess this review is moot.

Doms is sort of like eating at your Italian Grandmothers house. The place looks like a single family home that was scooped up in Revere and dropped in the North end. The staff is very friendly and the food is a little better than typical north end Italian but nothing to go out of your way for. Its reasonably priced and the portions are generous. A better value along the same vein is Antonios on Cambridge street.

Two split-level small dining rooms with five white table-clothed tables each. Friendly service from a young italian-american lady. Our table ordered an appetizer«crustini” which was like bruchetta only with capers and olives as well. It was decent. We ordered a bottle of red for the table and soon after placed our entrée orders. I had a «ravoli tasting» which featured two(ravoli) of each of the four types of ravoli. My favorite being the lobster. My friend’s order of shrimp with pesto sauce on angel hair was presented with mushrooms rather than shrimp. Our waitress said she must have been confused because«mushroom» sounds like«shrimp»… I’m not sure I agree. She had shrimp brought to the table asap. During dinner we noticed that the room had gone from very quiet to pretty loud as people drank their wine and socialized. All in all a nice, good dinner but nothing extraordinary about the food or service.

I hate to say this, but I found Dom’s Restaurant to be terribly dissapointing. I was lured into Dom’s by the ginormous billboard on its rooftop quoting rave reviews from every publication under the sun, and by the legend that the restaurant’s owners greet their customers at their tables, offering expert advise on what to order. Well, perhaps Dom was on vacation when I visited, because I certainly didn’t meet him! Instead, I was greeted by a young, confused waiter who didn’t seem too familiar with the menu and had little to say about the food in general. And my meal was ok. But not great. To their credit, the waitstaff was really accomodating when my pasta showed up with the wrong kind of sauce(an error on my part, not theirs). All and all, however, my experience at Dom’s was mediocre at best.

Dom’s is the quintessential North End dining experience. Dom(either Dom or Marcello, we didn’t ask which one) came to the table, sat down, and made suggestions as to what to get from the 15 page menu. Everything is heavy duty, sauce laden, and tasty. 4 people, 4 entrees(including a Lobster Milanese), an appetizer for the table, 4 desserts, and two bottles of wine, $ 162. Great food, great spot…

I’ve only been to Dom’s once, but the experience was great. It is sort of tucked in a side street, but the inside is adorable. The prices were surprisingly low. I left full, happy and with enough money to stop at Mike’s for a pastry afterward. Dom himself even came out from the back, sat at our table and talked to us for a few minutes. It was a fun experience.
