Great steak, it melted in my mouth! What really made it though was the personalized service that we received. Domingo and the other server(forgot his name!) were so attentive and cared so much about giving us the best service, you must go here and find out for yourselves!

Absolutely AWFUL. Dismal ambience. Felt like sitting in a basement with dark painted walls — nothing about the atmosphere is elegant or sexy. Service bad. Tatooed waiters likely working the front pub room too… Supposedly they do custom martinis — no, they do not. No cocktail onions, no Grey Goose Vodka. Oysters served almost at room temperature. Risotto(or whatever it really was) excessively salty… we did not stay for dessert, could not wait to get out of there. Don’t be fooled by their ridiculous ‘Adults Only’ scam…

I went here for the first time last night and I was not disappointed. For those of you that don’t know, Bogie’s Place is a restaurant inside JM Curley’s, seats 12, and has it’s own menu. It was a pretty incredible dining experience; you’re whisked off into a private room, with a waitress who was extremely attentive throughout(and even made the drinks for us herself, immediately after we ordered). The ambiance was on-point, and it was pretty special to have your own private bathroom and back-door exit. We ordered: Lychee martini & old fashioned — Both very tasty Wedge salad — Probably the best thing I had all evening. The dressing, bacon bits, and homemade croutons contrasted well with the light crisp lettuce. NY strip — This was pretty disappointing and the reason this place isn’t getting 5 stars from me. It’s not that it wasn’t good, but it wasn’t served hot and was lightly overcooked. Rack of lamb — Yum! Mac and cheese — Not my favorite but my boyfriend loved it. It was sweet because of the candied onions, which really just isn’t my thing. Spinach — We had to get some veggies right? Overall, a great meal. I’d definitely come back and give the steak another shot, since clearly that’s what they’re known for.

Went here for mine and my boyfriends birthday dinner. We read great reviews so decided to try it instead of going to another steak restaurant. I couldn’t wait to try to smashed potatoes that everyone talked about but they had a completely different menu than the one that was online and no smashed potatoes. The food was okay. We both got the filet. One was slightly undercooked and one was cooked as ordered. The best part of the meal was the wedge salad, which is pretty disappointing when you are going for a nice steak. Overall we were disappointed and probably will not be going back here

I took my partner here for his birthday. He had always wanted to go. We had seen the restaurant be featured on man finds food and when I saw the show, I made reservations because the steak looked so good! We loved the steak we had — rib eye cut. Definitely go for the rib eye. You won’t be disappointed. The service was really great too and it was nice to have a quiet dinner considering JM Curley can get quite loud. There’s also a private restroom and exit so it was cool to have dinner in a speakeasy style venue. Will be back to bring steak-loving friends and family!

Here’s what they got going for ‘em: STEAK(I mean, better be good!), POTATIES, lovely ambiance, a nice cocktail menu. Here’s what’s not-so-great: all the food except steak and potootys, the bathroom, the recognition that a business has bamboozled you, and you even made a reservation that they may do so.

This is my favorite place to eat in Boston. - I was here opening night(the«soft» open, before the general public really heard — aren’t I special??) and have been a loyal fan. I’ve recently moved back to the area and I’ll be here this coming weekend. - What started as a novel gimmicky idea, a backroom-restaurant, still stands strong here at JM Curleys. «Bogie’s Place», a small, secluded, private, romantic, wonderful perfect place to eat and drink, sits in the side/back room of the bar known as JM Curley’s. The bar is loud, and you feel like«one of the in crowd» as you make your way past the throngs of drunks and behind a curtain to a small quieter room. The menu is small but excellent and separate from the regular bar food. The mixed drinks are excellent. The steaks are amazing. You can actually sit and eat here and TALK to the people you are with. And you can HEAR them. And — bonus — private bathroom! Yah no waiting in lines or anything. It rocks. - This is how dining should be and I wish more places did this. I love it.

My boyfriend and I went here tonight to celebrate his birthday and it was just perfect. The small room gives it a very romantic vibe, and the fact that«no phones are allowed»(we followed the rule) really gets you tuned into the moment and the conversation. The food takes a bit to come out, but he ordered the chefs cut, so they had to fully prepare it. I also think taking their time adds to the feel and ambiance of the night, and we both appreciated that. I had the lemon and herb roasted chicken, my boyfriend had the special chefs cut(I think it was a 12oz NY strip) and we split the mussels and the fries. Everything was amazing! I’m not typically one to order chicken, but it was just so good. I also called beforehand to order a dessert(chocolate lava cake) for my boyfriends birthday, and they brought it out right after dinner with a candle in it– didn’t miss a beat. Last but not least, our server was awesome and kind. and had really cool hair. he was great. Awesome place, highly recommend, especially for a special date night!

Awesome! Started w/a round of the bourbon concoctions, and moved right into a pair of the t-bones for the table. The steaks rested just the right amount, with the flavors oozing out(literally :-) Everything was outstanding including the casual, totally kick back & casual service. Love it here

Hidden in the back room of JM Curlye’s is BOGIES. It’s a small boutique steak joint & bar hidden from the public in the back room of this establishment. The quaint 5 table top place is perfect for a romantic evening of flesh before you dive into the real flesh of the evening(WINKWINK). Our meal which consisted of STEAK, grilled to perfection and mouth watering to flesh lovers. We choose to get the porterhouse special for 2 that night which included salad and 2 side’s for $ 100. My better half ate the filet portion and I ate the larger portion of our perfectly grilled masterpiece of meat.(Something about perfect grill marks on a steak gets me excited)… Needless to say she liked my mouth watering flesh more than hers(THESTEAK that is) so I shared. Make a reservation cause like I said it’s small and you may not get a table for your night. Below is my rating of the place! Food– Amazing Ambiance — Exceptional & Romantic Experience — PRICELESS FRANKWILLBEBACK, you can count on it!

Fantastic steak. Fantastic service. Even the little biscuits to start the meal are flaky and delicious. My husband and I went in on a whim for our 5th wedding anniversary. No reservations but we figured we’d try. They had a cancellation while we were still sitting at the bar so they let us back. This place is definitely legit. Everything was delicious. If you’re in Boston you do not want to miss this one!

Went here a little bit ago. It was difficult to find, as we had no idea that it was actually inside another place. Once we got in, we were one of two parties inside and received great attention from the bartender/server. The female server seemed like she had better places to be. The bartender made me some kind of martini made with cranberry, vodka, and lemon… pretty darn tasty. Our steaks were good… husband’s was a little over cooked in spots, but it was giant and tasty. Overall, a pretty good night out in a new steak place in Boston

Made a reservation for dinner with my fiancée to celebrate our engagement anniversary. We had a little trouble finding the place because we didn’t realize it was inside JM Curley. When we arrived, we were led to a private dining area behind the bar. It looked like it could accommodate a handful of parties, but at the time we were the only ones there. We ordered the porterhouse prix fixe with the house rub, which included a wedge salad for both, 28 oz porterhouse steak, and 2 sides(we got seasonal vegetables and smashed potatoes). The food was absolutely delicious. I normally am not a fan of salads, but I really liked this salad because it had bacon and really tasty dressing and croutons. The steak was super tasty and tender, and cooked to the perfect level for us — one of the best steaks we’ve had! The sides were also very good. The seasonal vegetable turned out to be oven roasted broccoli, which was light, crispy, and tasty(I normally don’t like broccoli but I really loved this). The smashed potatoes had bacon, sour cream, and scallions, so basically like baked potatoes except smashed — I really loved this too but I think the serving size was a bit too large for us. Finally, we finished off with a dessert each — I had a peach cobbler and she had a strawberry shortcake, both of which were tasty and served as a great end to our meal. We really enjoyed the ambiance of the private dining area too. The experience was very intimate, as it was just the two of us for most of our meal. The service was courteous and efficient, and not too in-our-face either. It was a perfect evening! When we’re feeling like having steak again, we’ll definitely be back!

After doing some late night research on Unilocal,I stumbled across this gem. Did someone say secret restaurant? And to think I had been inside JM Curley’s a couple months before and not had a clue this place was further inside, protected by a curtain and an «Adults Only» sign. After making a reservation, we arrived right on time and were whisked away to the back room by the hostess of JM Curley’s. After we passed through the curtain, we were in a back room that had a couple of booths and 4 two person tables, along with a small 3-seat bar. We were seated at one of the two person tables and presented with menus. To start off the meal we each got a drink. Mine – I believe – was ordered from JM Curley’s bar since I wanted something a little spicy. The spicy hemingway I got was probably the spiciest drink I’ve ever gotten – it was great to start the meal, but not really palatable once the food came. To start off the meal, I went with the wedge salad. This was prepared in a classic way but it was pretty huge and had plenty of dressing, cheese, and bacon to coat each piece of lettuce. My friend got the spring salad which was also pretty tasty. For our main course, we both opted for the NY Strip steaks after reviewing what other Unilocalers had gotten. The steak was quite large and so juicy/tender. We meant to order foie gras butter to go on top, but after tasting the steak decided that it had enough flavor all by itself. Who knew such a great steak house could remain so secretive? Oh and the green onion they serve as a garnish – don’t pass it up, it’s quite delicious as well! To supplement the steak, we decided to get a side of the macaroni and cheese – as it was the most talked about side dish on Unilocal.Though I did appreciate the lightness of the dish and its flavors, it was not quite my cup of tea. That being said, it was still delicious – and quite large – as we were barely able to finish half of it. To finish the meal, we went with the pot de crème. I was not expecting much from this, but it was the perfect ending to our meal. Not too large and very light – the flavor combination of whipped cream, orange zest, and chocolate was phenomenal. Overall, this place lived up to the hype. The food was excellent, the service was friendly and a bit quirky(to fit the vibe), and we enjoyed a memorable night.

Bogie’s Place is definitely in the running as the best steak restaurant I’ve been to in Boston — and I’ve been to almost all of them. My boyfriend took me there last night for my birthday dinner and it was everything I could have hoped for. Great ambiance, cool concept, and AMAZING food. We started by splitting the wedge salad — definitely big enough for two to split. Fresh lettuce, bacon bits, and quite possibly the best blue cheese dressing I’ve had. We both ended up getting the beef tenderloin which is basically a 9 oz filet mignon. I had mine with the house rub and he had his with a blue cheese topping. The blue cheese topping is definitely large enough for 3 – 4 people to share, just FYI. Both options were great. Meat was tender, perfectly cooked, melt in your mouth. We got the baby smashed potatoes as a side which were also great. Sour cream and bacon in it, with a hint of mustard seeds? All-in-all, a huge«bravo!» to Bogie’s Place. Thank you for making my birthday dinner oh so wonderful. I would go back any day of the week!

We were reached out by the manager who apologized and explained the situation. Apparently there was an issue initially when the restaurant joined Opentable. Appreciate the manager for reaching out; now let see how it goes with the next reservation & dinner!

A spectacularly tailored experience. Heavy svelt velour hides the entrance to the small dining room with its own private bar where the wettest, coldest gibsons in Boston are adorned with house pickled onions. The wedge salad($ 10) is straight from«Mad Men:» drizzled in bacon lard and bacon bits with tomatoes and blue cheese over crisp iceberg. It’s prepared carefully as if it were an antique from yesteryear — which it is. A gigantic ribeye($ 40), add the foie butter and melt over the top. Sublimely tender, it is prepared perfectly medium rare. The ateak knife is almost unnecessary. Mac n cheese is crusty and creamy. With one server for all of thee tables, it will not be lacking. Quiet, dark and romantic. Take some one here and they will be impressed.

Ambiance — Bogie’s Place is located in JM Curley’s, adjacent to the Boston Common. It’s a small, back-room attached to the main bar area, seating about a dozen to a dozen and a half. There’s a string of small tables that can be pushed together, and a small booth that sits 4 comfortably. The other tables were a bit narrow, both length and width, such that putting two plates on the table made things cramped. If the tables were 6 – 9 inches longer, I don’t think that would reduce the space in the room significantly, but would provide more eating area. The room itself was pretty basic, but nice. I appreciate«adult only» space, where I don’t need to worry about young children running around, etc. Food Quantity — We both ordered a main entrée, shared a side, as well as a dessert. My wife ordered the hanger steak, which was a bit petite; I ordered the rib-eye, and it was a good sized cut. The side we ordered(chic peas, lemon zest, some type of seed/nut, in molasses) was a decent size, plenty for us to share. I’m always perplexed by tiny portioned desserts on oversized plates, it just accentuates the diminutive serving size. Food Quality — Everything was delicious! My wife ordered the blue cheese side with her steak, which was delectable. I ordered my rib eye medium, it was expertly cooked, and well seasoned; it also had the perfect amount of fat to give it flavor, but not so much that it was more gristle than meat. The side we ordered was interesting(which is why we ordered it!), and tasted exactly how it looked. I thought it would be a tad bit sweeter with the molasses, but it was a subtle/mild flavor, and complemented the steak quite nicely. I enjoyed all the flavors of the dessert(almond crème, a brownie-like cake, topped with a small scoop of ice cream), though the cake was a bit drier than I prefer. Value — My steak and the side were priced perfectly. As mentioned above, the portion size of the hanger steak was a bit smaller than we’dve liked, if it were 2 oz more, it would have been spot on. The dessert was a little pricey for the size, but it had several different elements, so I can see why. Service — The service was stellar, from the moment we walked in till when we left. We went for an early meal, and ended up being the only ones in the Bogie room the entire time, so effectively had a waitress all to ourselves. She was very attentive, and topped off our drinks regularly. The waitress was always polite and professional, exactly what I look for. Overall — The service was the icing on the cake of this meal. Every course was delectable and perfectly prepared. While it does cost a bit more(~$ 60 each), they treat you right, and it’s worth it.

Best Steak in Boston… and by quite a bit. You know, if you are like me, you might feel good steak is hard to come by in Boston. I’ve been to the big establishments(Capital Grille, Abe & Louie’s) and have always felt that the actually steak at these places were always a bit mediocre. Not here. Not a chance. Before we get into the food, let’s get the basics of the place down. This is a 5 – 6 table speakeasy-esque steakhouse at the back of JM Curleys. I had heard about it from a fellow foodie in NYC who had seen it in a list of secret restaurants on Yahoo. Intrigued, I made a reservation(by e-mail only). When I arrived at JM Curley, the waitress escorted my date and I to a room hidden behind the bar. It was kinda too cool. We ordered two drinks from the bar(it has its own) and waited — be prepared to wait. It was 45minutes from sitting down to eating. Food: I had the dry-aged New York Stripe — damn. It has that buttery but almost lightly-fried crisp surface that reminds me of the steak I get at Peter Lugar’s in Brooklyn, NY. The meat will just melt in your mouth. Go ahead and get the foie gras butter for the steak too(order just 1 — its enough to share with 2 – 3 people). My date for the night had the Tenderloin which she adored… but my NY stripe was better. The sides were also excellent — we had 3. The tomatoes; which were done very nicely, cut in half, lightly fried. The french fries were just the way I like ‘em: thin, crispy, lightly salted. The Mac & Cheese was good, but I probably would pick something else next time. We were too full to get dessert. It definitely does a good job promoting its air of secrecy and exclusivity but, most of all, delivers quality. If you go just for the steak, you will be happy — it alone is worthy of the full 5 star. Everything else was just a pleasant bonus.
