If there’s only one thing you do in Chinatown, make sure it’s visiting this bakery! It’s so lovely and it’s my favorite hidden treasure in the city. Get the«big bun» — they’re delicious and my all time fave.

A deliciously warm egg custard with crisp flaky crust that melts in your mouth, 3 big roast pork buns(not the steamed ones), and ehh mediocre sesame ball = $ 4.05!!! I wish I lived closer so I’d have an awesome light lunch snack everyday. Ho Yuen bakery is too oily for me. This bakery is for sure the healthier alternative. Cashier lady is nice; she doesn’t make fun of my American-accented Chinese =)

This bakery/coffee house is one of the places that is open later than bao bao bakery and yo huen. I would probably always be going to those other places if I had the choice. Both times I have gone here to get some egg custard(dan ta) I have received one that is glued to the tin. Not an easy eat by any means. Next time I’ll have to try something else or come here earlier in the day.

If I’m not mistaken, it’s the little bakery/coffee house on the corner of Beach st and some other street(yea, helpful i know). Phở Hoa is just down the street from it though — and the boba place(with the colorful boba sign is across the street from it). This place has a bright blue awning that says«coffee house» or «coffee shop». Everyone always goes to that boba place, but they overcharge for their goodies. They are strictly a bakery, whereas the coffee house is also a savory goods place. It’s kind of unseemly looking, but fear not! It’s cheaper and the taro buns are just as good and even bigger. Ever got anything edible for 60 cents anywhere anymore besides gum and a piece of candy? Here you can get a bun for that. Yuuuuuuuuuuuum
