We stopped into this place while grabbing coffee next-door on the drive to Mendocino, and it was really hard not to buy everything. This store is impossibly well curated with a huge variety of interesting, uncommon goods, for your home. Handcarved wooden silverware sets, glassware, picnic sets, Japanese modernist stuff for bath & body, bowls and dishes for entertaining, lights, decorations. A great place to stop in on a drive up the coast; grab some coffee and a snack at the adjoining store and browse around for one-of-a-kind items.

We never drive to the Sonoma or Mendocino coast without stopping in Boonville to check in at The Farmhouse Mercantile. It would be a disservice to view this as just another gift shop. It is far more sophisticated and, thought the term is often misused these days of «eponymous this» and«artisan» that, this store is fully«curated». Little is what you might find somewhere else. There are even hand hewn wooden rolling pins from«a man in our neighborhood». Take the time. It is so worth it. BOONVILLE is worth it!!!

This place is timeless with practical as well as whimsical items that are reasonably priced. The store is beautifully laid out with clear attention to design – it is a treat just to walk around and browse, although it is hard to leave without purchasing a gift or two you never knew you were shopping for.

Cute shop next to Mosswood market. Perfect for souvenirs from the Anderson Valley and if you didn’t get to make the trip to the Apple Farm, you can get their products here(though you should just go to the Apple Farm. It rocks). There’s also a restroom in the back. I find that it’s my first stop once I make it into the valley :)

Great aesthetic. Simple sorts of items, well choosen to reflect a sophisticated farm-house look. I found these cool little galvanized labels that look like gravestones. Great for plant labels, pie labels, or recipe stands. They also had these old fashioned multi-filament, clear light bulbs that are seriously Victorian. Great stuff, good reasonable prices. Friendly staff, not snotty.

One of our favorite stops on trips to Mendocino is the Philo Apple Farm(reviewed earlier), and now that they’ve opened the Mercantile, we can stop there to pick up jams and juices, instead of visiting the Farm if it’s raining, like last year. It was STORMING in April when we went through, so being able to stop at the Mercantile was a blessing. Mercantile has a wonderful adjoining deli. The Mercantile itself is a trip back in time, and back into a truly rural old time mercantile store.
