This review does not deserve 1 star. This company is all about the big mighty Dollar! And if you voice an opinion on their Facebook that is the truth… they delete it. I guarantee they will try to delete this very honest & true review. This community sells the idea that«why live in an apartment, when you can live in a house?» Yet you aren’t living in a regular house, nothing like living in one. No, you live in a bedroom & share the kitchen & living room. There is absolutely no privacy even in your own room. Other roommates can hear all conversations, sexual activity, and bodily functions with your door shut. They also stupidly advertised, «where else can you decorate your own porch?»…um…everywhere else that has a front door. Beware…if you do not have an all-wheel drive vehicle, you need one(according to a response I got from staff). When it snows, they do not keep up with the private road that leads up to the cottages. And their road is very steep & very curvy. There have been several people wreck their cars when it snows. You know what their solution is to handling it? Sending an email about where NOT to park. With no suggestions of where TO park. Their theory is just to stay at home. But if you are like me & had to go to work late at night & return at 2am… there is no public parking area within a walking distance. Better hope that either you have a friend with all-wheel drive OR a friend that will let you crash at their place. Another thing on parking… yea that’s a real issue here. On game weekends, don’t expect to always to be able to have a guest over. Because they only issue limited guest parking passes. And if you or your guest do not have a parking pass they will row you. This is a problem especially for people like me who does not know until last minute if their fiancé is coming over due to schedule conflicts with work. Expect to see piles of trash bags in front of ppl’s doors for a week. Expect to see & walk in dog poo that is in the grass… especially if you have to walk your animal. Their theory is that if you don’t actually see a specific dog pooping, that they can’t address the issue. They are all talk & no action. If you go by 1 persons house & there are 15 piles of dog poo & nowhere else on the properties is it like that & it’s very localized… common sense tells you that someone within a short walking distance of that yard is not picking up after their pet. If you live in a unit that has bedrooms downstairs & upstairs. Expect your roommates upstairs to be too hot if the temp is on 71, and expect you to be too cold because your room is 62. I had to buy a heater because I’m downstairs. They came by to check it out & self determined there was only a 1 degree difference between upstairs & downstairs. Yet not only me… but my roommate as well agreed there is a bigger different than that & it is indeed cold downstairs. Yet staff assured me they could get the system rebalanced. The problem is not that. It’s simple. Heat rises, and the output(where heat comes out) is right below the input(where heat goes out) in the ceiling. Therefore heat is coming out… just at the ceiling level. Don’t expect any privacy or peace. When your roommates are in the kitchen & living room & you live downstairs… you hear everything they are doing. Cooking, Cleaning, going in & out of the doors. Can’t sleep due to the lack of sound barrier in the room. Also if you live with roommates with animals. Don’t move into a pet friendly home with people you don’t know. I made this mistake, and the person that had cats… omg their cat hair was all over the floors & countertops. And when I cooked food I would find cat hair in it because the hair floated freely in the air. Also the person didn’t clean the litter-box often enough and it smelled so bad of cat urine in the whole place. As soon as you open the door… the smell would smack you! It was super embarrassing to have guests over. If you need a 5-month lease, DONTDOIT! May I repeat… DONTDOIT! They charge you an extra $ 100/month. See they didn’t charge me a deposit… so that they could pocket that extra $ 100 a month. Not only that, before RENWAL time was over, they went under me… and leased out my bedroom before having a chance to re-lease. So basically they wanted to take my money & run. They made a good profit off my room. If you need a short lease, I suggest subleasing… and work out an agreement for the person your leasing from to pay your fees.

HORRIBLE experience with The Cottages. They told me 1 week before I was supposed to move in that my unit wasn’t ready, then told me I had to sign a hotel addendum within 48 hours if I wanted them to put me up in a hotel. I didn’t know anyone in Boone and they didn’t give me any notice, so I had really didn’t have any other options but to take the hotel addendum. Now I’ve been in the hotel for 18 days and my unit is still 30+ days away from being ready, but they won’t let me cancel my lease.
