Stayed here during the high season. Very very clean, warm, easy parking. Plenty of room for 2 adults, small child and baby in pack and play. Very quiet even though completely booked. Owners very friendly, and when we went to the office to inquire about getting a screwdriver to put in batteries for a toy my preschooler bought, the owner very kindly told him stories about the train and put his own battery in for him to use. Price was unbelievably low given the quality.

Hidden Valley is a great deal — we planned a trip to the mountains a few weeks before we wanted to go so finding an inexpensive small cabin wasn’t really an option in the prime season. We stayed in Room 1 at Hidden Valley — a comfortable queen bed with space for a pack and play. There are coffee makers now in the rooms plus the mini fridge and microwave. The bathroom was small but clean. My little one enjoyed sitting on the swinging porch seat in the morning as we got to sip our coffees and enjoy the mountain air and views. From the garden, you can see Grandfather Mountain and it is a 15 minute drive to Grandfather with access to the BRP not far from that. It’s about a 10 minute drive to the Mast General Store and to Boone. The free wifi at the hotel was very good.

Great place, very clean, quite and cozy. Friendly staff and fast WiFi. Three of us riding motorcycles across country and found one room with three beds, can you say save money?

Stayed here last week on a quick trip to the mountains. Just one night in a quirky little motel, felt like I was staying at my grandparents(that’s a GOOD thing!). Room was spotless and so was the bathroom. Our rate was half of some of the big names in town, and I would much rather line the pockets of this family!

We stayed here for a night on our way up to Roan Mountain State Park. The Owners were super friendly, the room was clean and there was a cute mural in the bathroom. This is a no frills family owned motel with very reasonable prices. There is a very nice garden out front and lots of knick nacks along the porch. Our room had a little refrigerator but no coffee maker. There was ice by the Office and sodas provided in the room. Neat little place that I would not hesitate to recommend.

Staying here this weekend while I’m doing the fine arts and craft show in banner elk. The prices aren’t bad, the flowers are the best, the room is like a tiny mountain cottage and the owners are very nice. I’m staying here again when I come back for the show in August.

Friendly owners, room both looked and smelled clean, reasonably priced(for the area), free wireless and a local non-chain business all add up to a worthwhile place to stay if you’re in the area. We will be coming back.

Ditto what Kelly said. I’ll add the following(I spent 2 nights with my 5 years daugther in the double beds room, in late March) 1. Very good deal for the money… in fact it was almost half the price to Best Western, the nearest hotel to the ski area. 2. The heater made the room feel like fire-brick pizza oven. Over night I had to wake up several times to turn the thing on and off. 3. It took us about 15 minutes by car to reach either Sugar Mtn or Boone and about 10 minutes to reach Hawksnest. 4. There are few restaurants nearby, however they all seem to close after 3PM. So for dinner you must head south to Boone(which has everything from fast food, restaurants chains to local joints). There is no coffee maker in the room either… All in all, Hidden Valley is a safe, clean and relatively close lodging alternative for an an extended ski trip. However if you need pampering or you can’t get your Mojo going without a full belly and half-a-gallon latte, then skip it… get a room in Boone.

The place is quite inexpensive for the area, and Jim and Maxine(the mom and pop owners) are very friendly. Although a word of warning: since they’re not a big chain hotel, if you cancel less than 48 hours before you’re supposed to be there, and they can’t rent your room to someone else, they’ll charge you for it. But I think that’s perfectly understandable for their type of business. The rooms are pretty clean, and they have a nice TV and a small fridge. There’s no cooking or pets allowed. The beds are a little hard, but that’s no big deal. They seem to be very environmentally conscious, which I appreciate(reminders posted about their recycling policy, not having the windows open with the heat on, etc.). And apparently, in the summer, the garden is beautiful. It’s about 7 miles to Sugar Mountain from the motel, and I would recommend a 4-wheel drive if going in the winter. It’s very much on a snowy mountain road, but we(2 native Georgians, who tend to stay home when there’s one inch of snow on the ground) felt very safe driving it in the Jeep. I recommend it, especially if you’re not picky about hotels. The Ritz, it ain’t, but it works great for a weekend ski break for the financially aware.
