Service was top notch, and the burger was tasty but could have used a little more salt and pepper. The frenchfries are yoyr typical shoestring fries… everything is cooked to order so there is a short wait. But FRESHHOT food is worth the wait.

Second time here, great burgers and shakes. Don’t get what the haters complain about. Maybe it’s because they couldn’t use a coupon or the quality wasn’t dumbed down enough.

Super disappointed. This place is touted a bit around town … I would rather patronize them than any chain but… my experience was bleak My dad had a tooth extraction and in my youth whenever I had any dental work I always got a milkshake, so I thought great! I’ll repay him! It’s close, it’s small, they have a diners & drive-ins feel and they’ve been here forever so let’s do it! First of all, if you don’t have 20⁄20 vision you can’t read the menu board at the drive thru… I was the only car there so I pulled up and asked some questions. I wasn’t super hungry but I like salt with my malt so I asked what kind of fries they had. She was very nice and actually *showed* me a fry. That was sweet. But it was a floppy skinny yellow thing so I opted out and asked what else was available. Typical«gems»,(tots) onion rings, or curly fries. Based on the look of the fries I ordered a BLT. Basic. Easy. Potentially wonderful at a drive thru place like this. A beardy guy with no hair nets was very nice also; I saw him preparing my sandwich and he seemed motivated and careful I sat for a long time waiting for my total, there were 4 cars behind me before I even paid. The GOODNEWS– the shakes are super thick, perfect for my dad’s request. A little toooo thick for me. Gimme a spoon! But he was happy. I ordered a small(I like that size) chocolate malt with extra malt and a med(16 oz pretty large) vanilla shake for dad. And the BLT The BLT was super mediocre and by that I mean it could have been better if there were more than 3 pieces of bacon on the full size white bread sandwich. I know, it’s winter here so I didn’t expect great tomato action but it wasn’t horrible. The lettuce is shredded iceberg, which can be expected but the bread to bacon ratio(it’s thick, almost like Texas toast bread) was way off. The bacon itself was cooked well, crisp But not burnt(almost tho) My main disappointment, however, was… When I took a sip of my *chocolate malt with extra malt“‘I thought I accidentally drank my dads vanilla shake. Arriving at my destination, i stirred it up real good and finally got a mild chocolate flavor but not malt, let alone extra malt It’s cool if you forgot my malt(which I paid for, and the extra malt) but the shake was only vaguely chocolate. And. My malt was the size larger than I ordered(which I also paid for) End result: I gave them 3 stars instead of 2 because 1. Nice staff 2. Seems like good, thick shakes —I’d go there again for a shake that tastes like the ice cream is good, but will be very specific about my order and forgo the food.

I give it a five star, not because it’s a great burger joint but because of the snotty entitled comments from others on here. Their prices are comparable to any fast food joint around. Seems they like to hire kids with beards and long hair as I have had hair in my food. But they made it right and completely redid my order at no charge. Onion rings are great. My girlfriend is always going there for the scotch and soda. Burgers are ok. Yeah its not the best but they do make a good contribution to the economy and don’t think they deserve 2 or 3 stars. I’d rather give my money to them rather than the big chains that lie to you.

I really liked the baby Henderson– burger with ham, bacon, tomato and just the right amount of mayo. The curly fries were good. Not a one of my kids would eat the kiddo burger as it was slathered in mustard. The chocolate malt was really a chocolate shake and as expected.

We have been to the Viking drive in multiple times and all times have been excellent until tonight. It has been awhile since we have been and things really have gone down hill. We ordered 2 scotch and sodas, a burger, a blt, and two orders of onion rings. Our scotch and sodas came our first, or should we say sprite. There was not even a remote hint of vanilla mixed with our sprite. So of course we politely asked if we had received the wrong drinks. The very nice young lady at the window told us that the owners only allow a small amount of vanilla to the drinks and when we asked if we could pay more for the vanilla we were told that wasn’t possible. When we arrived home and opened our bag we discovered our orders of onions had 2 normal sized rings and 3 small rings, the blt had 1 ½ strip of bacon and the fry sauce was pure mayo. Needless to say we paid over $ 20 dollars for the worst food experience we have had in boise. We will not be going back.

2nd time here. The first was good. 2nd time was AWFUL! my burger was way under cooked I hope I don’t get food poisoning and my fries were so greasy they were soft. There was literally a puddle of grease at the bottom of my fries dish.

Great food with reasonable prices! Too bad fast food isn’t like this anymore. You probably get as much bang for your buck here as you would at McDonalds, except this is actually quality fast food. Yes, that’s an oxymoron but you know what I mean. This place has been here for a long time. I think like 50 years or something. I highly recommend this place to fulfill your thirst for greasy fast food!

The food and drink here is really good. From the korn dog to the burgers. Fries onion rings tatter tots all great. I recommend a scotch and soda spin. As long as they do it right everything is wonderful. Some of the employees there don’t know the difference between a spin and a milk shake. And there is a big one. Also today I went in through the drive threw and they gave me my food with no bag. I was like wtf? But still good food. Definitely worth a try.

GREATMILKSHAKES! They have a «baby» size, which is perfect if you want a shake after your meal. Service was super sweet and helpful, but honestly the order was not exactly what we asked for. That said, who cares?! It’s a small drive in with cheap tasty food. What more do you need?

This was my first time visiting this burger joint. I had a card with various burger joints that represent the best burgers in boise. I have to say my experience so far at the old fashioned drive through places like this the customer experience is pretty lacking. The food or even the counter service is very slow. So for the food I ordered onion rings; I got 3 or 4 onion rings seems a little small I know it was the regular order. The burgers were average; for almost $ 3 you’d expect to get a little bit burger. The burger was nothing too spectacular i think the patty was frozen hardly seasoned. I think the microwave instructions on the wall answered my question if they make food fresh at their restaurant. The customer service is mainly my main low rating. I pulled up to the window the poor young lady was running around helping the other drive through window plus a walk up order. Then after 10 minutes she comes up the window says I need to drive around because the car behind me ordered first. I thought that was a little bizzare I said okay. I pull around and another car that ordered after me is now in front. Did he have to pull around? Nope so I don’t know what was going on with me. I got my food it was lukewarm I kind of expected that being it was 15 or so minutes after my order. For a first visit this wasn’t anything special to have me driving through their drive through again. Maybe it’ll be a better experience for others.

We stopped by because my hubby had seen the board stating they do scotch and soda. Back home(Wyoming), there’s a drive-in that does a scotch and soda freeze that I would die for. So decided to ask about it. They obliged(they call it a spin) and we decided to order some onion rings as well. Delicious on both accounts. We’ll be back to try the cheeseburgers and«korndog».

It’s not to bad, if you’re a local like I am, think golden wheel on fairview ave, or Doug’s Berger den, and it tastes the same.

Better than Bad Boy Burgers. No clue why this place doesn’t have at least a four-star average. I ordered a bacon-cheeseburger and it was perfect. Hot, fresh, fast, cheap. There really isn’t anything bad I could say about this little burger joint. Give it a try! The staff is great and girls working the drive-thru are very friendly.

Yuk! Went for milkshakes but the ice cream machine was down. The place looked incredibly dirty. I ordered corn dogs for my 2 kids and they were still frozen in the middle. Who messes up corn dogs?

Cold tiny burger, which was mostly bun. Small order of fries for the cost. The iced tea was old. The only thing I enjoyed was the fry sauce and that’s just because they don’t have fry sauce where I am from. I would not try it again.

This was our third stop on Burgerpalooza – in search for the best effing burger in B-town. This review is for their burger/fry fare. For a review of their shakes, I refer you to the review I did prior to this update. Overall, a boring sort of burger and our lowest scoring one thus far(2.17 average star rating from participants). Their fries did nothing to redeem this joint or their unimaginative interpretation of American fast food. Even one of the participants who gave them higher than the average score(3 star) later notated on her scorecard«error! must have been in a good mood!» as in hindsight she felt she had been too generous. What we hated: The fries. The freshness(or lack thereof) of ingredients. The overall quality. What they have going for them: They’ve been here for many years and that must account for something. Their location is prime on the corner of 36th and State – a great location for grab and go for those returning from work to their home in the foothills or Northend. They have a drive thru. And, though they don’t have indoor seating, they do have outdoor(limited) seating. Overall, with so many other burger places nearby, I would probably drive the extra ½ mile for something a little fresher and memorable.

Don’t bother. The most overpriced fish-n-chips for a drive-in, and they were basically fish sticks and those tasteless school lunchlady fries. The added toast was, well, unexpected for an order of fish-n-chips, and the included carrot was just downright weird, though it made it seem complete as a school lunch. The chocolate shake tasted chemical-like. Had it been super-cheap, I would have given it 2-stars.

OK It’s almost 9PM and you have been in meetings all day, there is not a chance that you are going to be able to exercise at this point. You are starving and don’t have time to make dinner before answering some email and preparing for tomorrow. What’s that up ahead? That wacky place that you have always wanted to try but were afraid of. The Viking! Nothing to be afraid of here. Just good home cookin’. Actually my big aversion to this place stems from their practice of flaming customers who give them bad checks. I can understand the frustration, but it is just plain stupid to put the names of these deadbeats on the Viking sign. As a potential customer, I don’t want to think about your business disputes. It does not fill me with consumer glee and make me want to flock to your restaurant. That is what a sign is for and you are wasting it. Get your public shaming kicks elsewhere. Anyway, the Eric 2 is a pretty good burger. Especially with grilled onions. Nice touch. It was smaller that I thought it would be which is actually a good thing. Who needs to eat larger portions. This cost me $ 4.00. A little less than a fancy sandwich elsewhere. Very nice service and I was happy to support a local business. Funny that they are right next to another Americana local biz, the Smoke Inn.
