Came here for happy hour this evening and the food was utterly disappointing. I had a GREAT experience with my elk burger last time I was here so I decided to try some new items. Smoked salmon salad — gross. Just a giant piece of cold«smoked» salmon on some sad greens. Salt cod croquettes, 3 pieces for $ 6.99. Salty. So. Freaking. Salty. And overpriced. Last but not least, the poutine. White gravy in poutine? Duck confit was just oil on greasy fries that added no distinct flavor. The additional star is for their happy hour drink deal, BOGO, only restriction being that you can’t get top shelf alcohol in your cocktail. Not a bad deal.

The service was excellent and the food was sublime! My sister and I came here for our very first restaurant, as we were visiting from out of town. We ordered the hummus and poutine appetizers and it was just delicious. Exactly what we were looking for after a flight! I ordered the Big Kono Wave(originally from Hawaii) blonde ale beer and she ordered the Idaho Potato Ale IPA and both were bomb! The bartender helped us with our drinks and it was perfect. I’ll definitely be going back again!

First off, 29 dollar bill for about 7 drinks, «Potato IPAs» which I recommend very good. The price is decent, the look is very Canada/Scottish but its a nice look. Bar is warm and plenty of elbow room. But the 5 star goes to our tall cute waitress very nice and cute. Great pub for the first day in idaho

Great poured cocktails and very good service at the bar! Their specialty Ruhm consists of Sailor Jerry. Not really a specialty but if you want to get there quick it is great! After viewing the menu and the reviews I decided to try the place down stairs for a specialty burger. What a mistake that was! I should have stayed and had a better burger and I am sure it would have been great! All in all a good place to hang out for cocktail and we will see that next time about the food!

This pub has phenomenal grub. Specifically the burgers and decently priced alcohol. The fries could be better, not my style of fry but it’s okay. It’s more a soft squishy fry than a crispy one with texture. Seasoning is pretty good on it though. The burgers are enormous, generous portions and the layout is fun. Service is good.

Overall not a good dining experience. Although I haven’t been to the Piper Pub in a while, I’ve been there many times over the last 15 years. I ordered a beer(Hefeweizen). Took a drink, it tasted off. Took another drink and another and concluded it was off and requested a different beer with 95% of that beer still in the glass. I was told that I would be charged for it and that the Hef was fine. Basically, it was me, not the beer. I can imagine if I was in my early 20s and drank 85% that they charge me but I’m 40 and just wanted to enjoy a beer with dinner. The food has gone down hill from what I remember and doesn’t compete with other options downtown. Wasn’t horrible but I don’t plan on going back for food. The service was well below par. It was like being served by the TSA. I mentioned the beer issue. Asked for water 3 times and flatware/napkins twice.

I’ve been here many times, and I like sitting outside when it’s nice, but the food isn’t really that good. And overpriced? Oh my. Tonight, I had a hamburger and«home-made» fries. You know– the kind of fries people rave about when secretly you know that processed Ore-Ida or Simplot fries are SO much better? Yeah, those. Yuck. Restaurants should quit thinking that they can simply cut up potatoes into strips and they magically become«french fries». Not. I came here for a Scotch Tasting event. It was all well and good(I’ve decided Scotch is inferior to a good Bourbon), but the food– overpriced, and just so-so. For your money in downtown Boise, there are MUCH better places. I’ll be back, but only if someone I’m with wants to go there. And probably just for the balcony ambience, not the food.

This place is A-OK in my book. I stopped in with a couple friends for Sunday brunch. There was nobody inside except for us. The server was very nice and not pushy as we waited for more to join. Mimosa’s were $ 3 and bloody mary’s were $ 7. The bloody’s were very tasty and I like the checklist you receive to let them know what you want in them. Mimosa’s were normal. The food items were quite small for their prices and again just okay.

Stopped in and had really tasty nachos for an appetizer. I had a decent burger and garlic fries for dinner. Good ambience inside and it looked like great outdoor seating for nice weather. Overall slightly overpriced for what it was.

I think each time I have been in it has been consistent in all areas. Food is pretty ok, service is great, drinks are good. This would be a great place for a happy hour or a brunch for sure! Patio is a huge perk and people watching at its best. The past couple of times food has been acceptable. I don’t see why you wouldn’t try it! Do it, you might like it!

Me and my boyfriend ordered burgers. I asked for no mushrooms my boyfriend asked for no pickles, bother burgers came with what we asked to not have on them. Fries were cold and burgers weren’t great. Service was alright the waitress was nice but I wouldn’t recommend or go back.

We popped in to the Piper after finding our first choice for a downtown dinner to be closed. I’ve been before, but never had an experience to write home about — so I knew going in it would be hit or miss. We first seated ourselves outside, but our waitress graciously let us switch to an inside booth when we found it to be a little chilly. She was great throughout the night — very friendly. It was early for a Saturday night downtown(around 7pm), so it was quiet. A few groups of people and some good football on the tvs. I had the Pineapple Honey Mojito, which I wasn’t a big fan of. It was made well, aside from the mint not being muddled properly, but it just wasn’t quiet my cup of tea. Great selection of drinks, though! Our food was awesome. I had the IPA Steak Sandwich and it was delicious! The pieces of steak were a little big and hard to bite through, but east to chew and had great flavor. There was some sort of sauce that was killer. And the garlic fries are definitely worth the upgrade. My boyfriend had the finger steaks and said they were pretty good, nothing spectacular. My mom had the corned beef sandwich and it was okay. The tots that came with it were pretty good, but the bacon in them tasted a little fake. Overall it was a good meal with great service. I’m definitely more inclined to go back now!

I usually love this place… for drinks(not food) but tonight I stumbled in my new shoes(they were heals. I thought I was being cute.) but the chick bartender said to me… order wisely… and so I ordered nothing… not even there shit food… later she apologized to my husband saying she shouldn’t have been so judgemental… as she couldn’t tell if I was drunk or not… Go some where else Unilocalers!!!

I’ve been to this place a few times now and I feel like I can give it an honest rating. My rating is purely on their food alone, no drinks. They serve a pretty good selection of bar food. They have your average fare of chicken wings in various sauces, fries, burgers, nachos, etc. the also have some really great dinner options. They have some lovely fish and homemade chips, but the best thing I’ve had so far(and the only place I’ve seen that makes it) is the Jameson Whiskey bangers and mash. If you like Irish/Scottish or even German type dishes, you need to come and try this entrée. It’s probably even better wish a few shots of Irish whiskey.

First happy hour experience in Piper’s Pub, on a Friday, on the first day of spring. I was lucky to snag a seat outside with everyone wanting a piece of the cool Boise weather. I noticed they are a bit unorganized when it comes to waiting tables, perhaps due to the«Seat Yourself» option. It can be difficult for a waiter/ess to notice you. I had to go to the bar and let them know I was sitting outside and it still took a while to notice. Nonetheless, my New Orleans Hurricane arrived timely. I have had their huckleberry mojito before and I wish I would have had that instead because the hurricane tasted like Sunny Delight, but a little better, and once you mix it more and drink it more it tastes a whole lot better. I also tried their Tequila Lime Nachos and they were surprisingly yummy! The only thing is that they didn’t have any chicken. Overall it was a pleasant experience and its a place I’ll come to again, but not sure how soon.

We came in for happy hour, the wings were really good and the atmosphere was nice but the food wasn’t outstanding or anything to rave about. Good service however waitstaff was prompt and friendly but for the food quality it was over priced

I was in Boise for a conference and was looking for a fun place downtown. Ordered a burger with sweet potato fries and a couple Martinis. Food wasn’t stellar but wasn’t bad. Martinis were good. Services was okay. Biggest drawback was they had a live band(which normally is a good thing) but was way too loud to be enjoyable. Had to shout to hear what people at my table were saying. Good location.

For those of you who follow my quest of finding a great burger in the Boise area, today I’m happy to announce I found a strong contender. The bar has an incredible location as it overlooks main and 8th, while the building it is in could use a major overhaul, the actual space is great. The bartender greeted me and told me about some of the good menu choices. I went with the little pub burger which was about 9oz of meat and loaded with fixings. It was a gut buster, but it tasted soooo good going down. The atmosphere seemed great, but I went during lunch so there isn’t much of a scene. From talking with the bartender the happy hour seems to be the biggest draw. I’ll have to return then and check it out. Overall I’m very excited with this joint.

Drinks are fairly good here. Last call us at 12 am which is kind of a bummer but that’s to be expected for Boise. Had the pear mojito which was good and not to overly sweet. Then had the hazelnut carameltini. I didn’t know it would be served hot but it turned out pretty good. I would come back as it is close to the restaurants around.

Being a food monster, I have to rate this place more heavily for food than for drinks. I will say, so as to start with something positive, that these guys know how to make a decent drink. I’ve had a great manhattan here and my wife typically loves their champagne cocktail. However, with even a decent mixing guide, it’s hard to screw up a cocktail if you use quality(not top shelf, but qualtity) ingredients. I also think it’s cool that they have bourbon and scotch tasting phlights. Unfortunately, cocktails are fairly expensive(think Fork, Chandler’s). But… their food freaking stinks! At least the last(and only) time we ate there. I don’t remember my wife’s meal(probably a salad and probably forgettable), but I had fish tacos and we split some french fries. The fries were totally medicore and reminiscent of some kind of bag o’ freezer fries. When they arrived, they were mushy and undercooked and cold. My fish tacos were totally sub-par and, according to my wife, that’s a bad sign(because I gobble up anything that someone calls a fish taco). Service was not stellar, even on a slow weekend afternoon. We won’t be returning. There are much better places for fish tacos(10 barrel, Cloud 9) and, if you’re going to spend a bit on drinks, there are much nicer places to eat and get an expensive cocktail(Fork).
