Rediscovered Books is a gem of a bookstore. Friendly staff, free gift wrapping(who does that anymore?) and a wide selection of books. I’m told that if they don’t have a title, they will order it with a 20% discount. Take that Amazon! Not surprisingly, the staff also know about books and depending on the genre, can talk to you about them. Take that Amazon! If I lived here, I’d be a regular at here. It’ll be a «must stop at place» next time I’m Boise though.

Love this place! We live in California and have come here on both of our visits … Love that they have both new and used books, tshirts, bookmarks, Great gift ideas. The staff is very friendly and maybe you feel welcomed. Will be back here again on my next visit!

You know what really makes a bookstore for me? The staff. 100% the staff. And the staff at Rediscovered Books is about as good as it gets. On a recent trip to Boise I swung into the shop to pick up a book for my sons(a tradition of traveling I picked up a few years ago) and was delighted with what I found. Based on a staff member’s recommendation I bought The Library Lion which is such a lovely story in my eyes, but more importantly is my older son’s favorite book since I brought it home. Not only were they able to recommend books for a 4 year old, but they also were extremely helpful for recommending books for a tween/teen boy for someone else in the store. And their shelves of recommendation were equally awesome. If you aren’t a staff person and focus more on selection I doubt you’ll be disappointed here either. They have a wonderful selection, but if they don’t carry what you are looking for they will also order it for you. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Rediscovered Books and would definitely head back there if I find myself in Boise again!

Great independent bookstore in Downtown Boise with pretty good selection. Why I love this place: 1. If you’re looking for a certain title and they don’t carry it at the moment, they’d be happy to place an order for you! 2. They buy back your books! If you know you’ll be coming back here, just opt for the store credit because you’ll get ~2x the money than getting cash. 3. The staff picks and comments all around the store. It piques my interest sometimes to skim through a book that I probably wouldn’t even look at before! 4. Staffs are always friendly and helpful. They always ask if I need help to find anything and if I don’t, they’ll leave me to look around the store. What would make it better: I know they’re limited on space, but I personally would love if they have a larger seating area!

So nice to have a wonderful bookstore downtown! Great staff. Nice store with a well thought out selection. I have stopped ordering books through Amazon, and order everything through these folks. No shipping costs, good prices, and a much better experience.

A total gem of a bookstore in downtown Boise filled with great selections both current and not. I popped in before my flight back to SF and the selections were numerous with plenty of great choices being displayed to make the search a bit easier. Staff was nice and accommodating. Books separated by genre. Although the store doesn’t have the most modern feel, it’s nailed that small town vibe.

Rediscovered rocks! 1. They boast a great selection of books considering the relatively small space the store takes up. 2. From my experience, the staff has an overwhelming knowledge of books and literature, including newer releases. 3. They frequently have fun events. 4. Special ordered books arrive quickly. I will always get my books from Rediscovered.

I LOVE finding independent bookstores across our journeywise trip throughout the USA and Canada… and in Boise, here’s one of the best! Went twice, actually, over a week long visit. First time, not too many people browsing, sadly. Second time, on a Saturday morning, the place was busy busy — yay! The staff was very helpful, books are well-organized, and though not a huge selection, really fine for an independent. Saving local bookstores, yes — I always try to buy something, and here, was pleasantly surprised to pick up a used book I’d been searching for!

I lament the disappearance of so many book stores, so it was a great move for Rediscovered Books to locate in a very busy downtown street, 8th Street, venue for the Farmer’s Market. There is a lot of foot traffic in this area and it’s an ideal place to come in and browse. It’s a small store but the selections are more than adequate. The classic and fiction area is especially noteworthy. The other pluses are that used books are available, the owners will buy gently used books and either offer cash or store credit. Me, I opt for the credit — can’t think of a better way to find gifts for family and friends then here. Another plus, if the book you want isn’t in the store, it will be ordered for you without the added cost of postage. Can’t beat that! The staff is very friendly and helpful. You can tell that they love their jobs here!

I can’t say enough great things about this bookstore. The staff makes it wonderful. I have two kids(ages 8 and 10); one’s a bookworm and the other is, shall we say, reluctant. Every single time we go in, a staff member has listened carefully to my kids and then made recommendations that are just spot on. The staff talks directly to the kids and they ask great questions to zero in on exactly the kind of book each kid might like. We’ve had great interactions at our also-excellent library, but their recommendations at Rediscovered have just been amazingly perfect each time. My son is now hooked on high quality graphic novels; my daughter leaves with great fantasy and mystery recommendations. There are wonderful small bookstores everywhere(love Smith Family in Eugene, OR!), but Rediscovered is tops at having really amazing, friendly, smart staff who readily share their enthusiasm for books with kids(and adults too, of course). I used to never buy new books, but I do now – only at Rediscovered Books!

Downtown Boise has long been a tough place for independent bookstores – although several have tried to fill the void left by the Book Shop’s demise in 2000, none have survived. Despite the failings of its predecessors, Rediscovered Books is making a go of it on the hope that its stellar staff, targeted selection and great location will enable it to succeed where others have failed. Knowledgeable staff and enthusiastic service elevate this store above the rest. During my visit, I interacted with three employees who either helped me find the book I was looking for or offered to order it for me. Especially exciting(to me anyway) is the fact that my former high school English teacher – one of the best at Boise High – began working here after retiring from teaching. It speaks volumes to me that the store is staffed with professionals who REALLY care about helping readers find books that are right for them. As a regular visitor of small but successful neighborhood bookstores on both coasts, I’ve observed that their success is derived in part by targeting specific client niches. For instance, one finds a wealth of foreign affairs and political offerings in DC bookstores, while food writing seems to be emphasized in shops frequented by Bay Area locavores. To that end, Rediscovered Books focuses mostly on fiction, with a broad range of literature, science fiction, and other offerings at the front of the store. Smaller, but nonetheless impressive current events, politics and history sections are relegated to the back. Although I prefer the latter, I was not disappointed… I found the history of 1961 Berlin I was seeking, along with a delightful illustrated copy of Strunk and White’s Elements of Style. Be aware that this is the type of business that carries only one or two copies of any given book so as to offer a broad range of offerings. This is a wise move given the limited space, though it does raise the prospect of popular titles being in short supply. Finally, the store’s 8th Street location is a big improvement over the Book Shop’s old digs. I hope that the foot traffic generated by the area’s restaurants, nearby convention center, and the Saturday Market will buoy the stores fortunes above its predecessors. As someone who grew up here and wants to see downtown succeed, I’m thrilled that there is now a locally-owned, serious alternative to the bloated book warehouses out at the mall.
