This review is limited to the appliance department. I ordered a suite of kitchen appliances and a washer/dryer on-line, specifying this store as my «home» store. The items were promised to be in-store on a specific future date, with delivery the next day. Since I live elsewhere, timing was crucial for delivery in Boise. That is exactly what happened. Everything, including hoses, vents, etc. arrived on one truck as scheduled. The delivery guys installed everything except the dishwasher, made sure everything operated correctly, and cleaned up after themselves. I could not ask for better service from Lowe’s.

I’ll change this review if things get better but so far my service has been terrible. Went in on a Thursday, paid for $ 45 to have an installer come measure. Lowes said the installer would call in a day or two, 5 days later I called Lowes and they got the installer out that day. Installer said he’d call the measurements in to Lowes the next morning, a Wednesday. Today(Thursday) I called Lowes and they don’t even have the measurements yet. Which means a full week and a day I am no closer to replacing the busted window. Meanwhile I have layers of cardboard over the window and the weather is changing quickly. Not any confidence in this process so far. I’m really worried I will have to forfeit the $ 45 and go to a professional window dealership. Fingers crossed.

after 3 years of taking my dog every time i go(which is a lot), guy in plumbing told me i should not bring him back again b/c they only allow service dogs and i should see the sign on the door which has been posted for years. yes there is a sign which is ignored by everyone that brings their dogs — a lot of people. my main question is why this guy in plumbing felt the need to exert his authority. he wasn’t the manager and my dog was sitting quietly in the basket. I could tell he was just one of those,” respect my authority” types. he could have said, «it doesn’t matter to me but just so you’re aware, someone up front or in management may eventually tell you not to bring your dog,» or something like that. can’t stand these types of «do as I say» people. anyway, home depot is much more accommodating so they just won all my business. it’s little things like this that do matter when we have choices.

I’m never pumped to go to Lowe’s. If I have to go to Lowe’s that means something broken and I have to struggle to understand simple mechanics to try and fix it. Usually, I get sleepy just walking in there. I feel my life force being sucked out of me at the prospect of having to do housework. Having said that, Lowe’s is not too bad. The woman that works in the appliance section is really cool. I’m no handyman, but if you are, I’m not telling you something you don’t already know. If you are like me and don’t know much about home repair, just buckle up and do your best. The staff at Lowe’s is knowledgeable and friendly. You’ll get through this. I hope.

I have a love/hate relationship with this place. I love the convenience of this location due to the proximity to my house. However, every time I go here a little part of me dies and I feel like I could do better. If Home Depot were closer to my house than Lowes, I’d never go to Lowes. In a pinch when I need something basic that I can get at any home improvement store, Lowes is there for me and meets my needs. I can’t say any employee at Lowes has ever blown my mind with superior customer service. I kinda like when employees leave me alone and let me get done what I need to get done. The weirdest part is something bothers me about this Lowes but for the life of me, I can’t quite put my finger on it. Kinda like I walk through the front door and my emotional defenses are put on high alert. If I need sprinklers, hand tools or basic painting sundries, Lowes is A-OK with me. If I need anything name brand, I’ll visit somewhere else.

Stores like Lowes and Home Depot are pretty much the same. Big, barn-like, often with birds in the rafters. The smells of sawdust, rubber, cleaners and oil. Large flatbed carts and people in aprons. Only the color schemes change. I went to Lowes because I had been given a $ 50 gift card. I had actually found an item online that I wanted, and hoped I could find it locally. I also planned to stock up on household necessities, like light bulbs and ‘canned air’. We had to ask for help to find the ‘canned air’.(We being my husband and me). We had a great time looking at kitchen counter tops, dishwashers, stoves and washer/dryer pairs. It seemed a bit difficult to find someone to help us when we found we DID need help– and I promise you we spent a lot of time trying to find the item ourselves. When we did find a gentleman to help, he DID go above and beyond. He was quite personable. The item I had found online, was nowhere to be found in the store. When asked where similar items might be found(it was a lanyard– worn around the neck– to hold keys or an id and I was looking for a specific model) we found no items of the sort. Finally at customer service I pulled up the website on my phone and had the staff look for that specific item– of course it was not to be had at the store. End all be all. for basic needs, this store is a-ok. If you are looking for something specific you might want to call ahead before you head over there.

While in Boise, husband and I had to do some work on our house. Yes, Boise, Idaho. Yeah, yeah, yeah… Idaho… yeah, you da ho. Lowe’s has been our choice lately since Home Cheapo has been letting us down during the last couple of years. The selection of ceiling fans is out of this world. You’ll be looking with your head tilted up for about 35 minutes trying to decide on which fan. This one has longer blades, that one has interesting lighting features. Whatever you’re looking for — this Lowe’s has it. They had self checkout… easy in — easy out.

Between Lowe’s and Home Depot, Lowe’s beats HD hands down. While their respective selections are adequate and like each other’s, the shopping experience at Lowe’s is much better. The associates are quicker to respond and actually happy to do so. Can’t ask for better.
