I would hate to work in the convenience store across the parking lot from the Latin Twist Food truck. It would be hell constantly breathing in the smoke from the grilled meats on the barbecue without being able to partake. Latin Twist has a permanent station at the corner of Boise Avenue and Beacon Street, at the bottom of Protest Hill. It’s a good spot, close to the Boise State University campus and plenty of drive-by traffic. I tried a rib plate and it was fantastic. The meat was tender and falling off the bone and no would complain if you ate it with your fingers. It was served with a salad topped with chimichurri dressing that was also good and a tropical fruit salsa that was very tasty. And the yellow Columbian rice and Cuban black beans were also delicious. The truck has an extensive menu, including Jamaica jerk, Cuban sandwiches, pibil from the Yucatan and even burritos. Latin Twist makes a great addition to Boise’s food scene.

Amazing! I was hesitant to try this place because I live close by and didn’t want to get addicted… but I went and I am. I had both dinner last night and breakfast today. Everything is awesome and we will be back… probably tomorrow.

The carne asada is out of this world! Flavors unlike anywhere else in Boise and the owner is excited about his product. We basically got an orientation to Latin food before we ordered. Plus, it’s quick and well-packaged if your take your order to go. Come hungry and bring your friends! It’s a high-quality truck tucked away in a fairly quiet corner behind BSU and you won’t be disappointed!

We just picked up lunch here for the first time. Drive by this food truck every day on the way to work. So glad we finally stopped in… excellent!!! The jerk seasoning is TODIEFOR and everything else we ordered is exceptional too. I’m still in nirvana :-D This saves a special foodie trip to the Caribbean… for now at least ;-)

Boise’s newest food truck makes a noble effort to introduce Central American, South American, and Caribbean street food into a dining scene previously lacking in this this department. Latin Twist opened on July 12, 2014, with a prime permanent location at the corner of Boise Avenue & Beacon Street. Their menu is in flux, as they’re still working out kinks regarding ingredient supply, prepare-ability of dishes in the truck, and customer tastes. They had a rather ambitious menu written on a whiteboard, but only about half the items were available today. On offer was jerk chicken, Argentinian ribeye, Peruvian linguiça, a Sonora dog, and several sandwich options — a large enough selection, and enough of a variety to showcase their kitchen skills. The S.O. selected the jerk chicken, smoked over Jamaican pimento wood(though the owner’s claim that he’s the only guy west of the Mississippi with authentic Jamaican pimento wood seems dubious). This was a tame jerk [unsurprising for Boise], with less herbaceousness and kick than we tasted in Central America. But the flavor was nonetheless pleasant and the smokiness was entrancing. It was served with rice, beans, and some lovely grilled summer squash. My Costa Rican ribeye sandwich was also tasty — tender shaved ribeye, pepperjack, black beans, grilled peppers, and shoestring potatoes on a fluffy bolillo. The pepperjack wasn’t the most authentic decision, but it worked well enough. Same for Latin Twist’s grilled corn — topped with a poblano crema, it’s not authentic elotes with chile-lime and cotija, but it still tastes good. Skip their version of escabeche, though, which is a strangely sweet mixture dominated by large slices of colored bell peppers. Since this is Boise, I worry that they might have to deviate even more from authenticity to suit customers. But hopefully the owners’ passion for Latin cuisine and solid talents in the kitchen can maintain their quality products for a long time to come.
