I am unsure why this place has received so many negative reviews. I took myself and my youngest daughter here for an eye check up, and my youngest is a handful! She has a hard time with all of the equipment and begins throwing a fit. The eye doctor was very patient and took the time to help her over come her fear of equipment. The only negative was the hard sell of eye glasses, while I understand the need to sell glasses to stay in business, I did not like the fact that we where passed off to a sales representative to buy glasses without being asked if we planned on purchasing glasses there. All in all a positive experience.

I am never comfortable writing a negative review but I think this time I can not turn a blind eye and say nothing. I am VERY disappointed with Boise Mnt Eyecare… After moving into Boise I researched eye care professionals in the local area. I noticed several positive reviews for BME, and felt good about my decision to go there, especially after meeting with them in person(very nice people). Dr. was great, and Jody(one of the very friendly assistants there) helped me through an issue I had with a brand new pair of prescription Maui Jim’s sunglasses that they were building for me. After working out the details, I was billed the full balance that first day for both progressive and distance correction sunglasses. Later they found Maui Jim’s had issues effectively installing progressive lens correction to the glasses, suggesting I pass on the progressive Rx feature(for reading vision) and just have distance vision applied. I agreed, and Jody told me I would be refunded for the progressive portion of the bill(somewhere around $ 300 from a total of $ 1400 I had spent on two pairs of glasses, after insurance). After a week or so I stopped in to pick up my new glasses. Jody explained this time that I would be getting the refund in the mail in the form of a check. I then left the shop feeling good, and have had no further issues with my new glasses(at this point very happy with the service and the final product). I certainly trusted I would receive my refund in due time. Thats where it ends; a couple of months passed before I noticed I not received a check in the mail, nor gotten any credit applied to my credit card(thinking it might have gotten somehow lost). I left two messages for Jody to call me about the refund, but I never heard back from her(both times I left messages, and the 2nd attempt the receptionist said Jody would certainly get back to me this time). After a few more weeks passed(and no response from Jody) I decided to stop by the clinic in person to speak to her directly. Surprisingly she told me that I would not be receiving the refund after all, and after discussing it with the doctor, they had decided somehow not to pay me. Okay, awkward!!! …I was completely shocked. BME charged me for something they could not effectively provide but chose to keep all of the money regardless, AND I had to go there in person to get them to respond to me months after the fact. During this visit Jody seemed understanding of my reasoning and stated she would try to have another discussion with the doctor to see if he would approve the refund(which is certainly the right thing for them to do). I was still skeptical, but she promised to call me the very next day(emphasizing her promise not to forget). Its now been over two weeks and I have not heard from her, nor have I received a check in the mail or any kind of credit on my credit card. I can not put words to how disappointed I am with their lack of professionalism(combined staff and its managing doctor). I never expected this kind of service and treatment from these seemingly nice people. Apparently they have two sides to the way they do business. Up front with a smile, but a big FU after. Not a single explanation as to why I should not receive the refund. …not cool! Needless to say, I will not be going back.

This was a very unpleasant experience. There are a number of eye doctors in the area, I should’ve done my research ahead of time. This felt like when you get your oil changed at Firestone or another place and they try and sell you a bunch of upgrades making you feel uncomfortable about driving away without having them done. It was really bad — out of the 3 people working with me to explain what their charges were and how they would bill my insurance, I still didn’t have an answer. It took several calls back including back and forth between my insurance company to get this rectified. I would NOT recommend.

Good: The girls at the front desk are very friendly. Nice selection of frames. Bad: I was convinced by them to get bifocals even though I have never had any before. They said it would be better for me since I work with a computer all day. They prescribed me with nearsightedness even though I have never had that issue before and I had just gotten off work and made it to their office for my eye appointment(my eyes were very tired). I explained to them that my insurance didn’t cover it but I ended up paying sooo much money out of pocket because they said it would be better for me. Well they didn’t work… I couldn’t see while driving even though if I put my previous glasses on I could see just fine(the prescription showed that my new glasses and old were practically the same for farsightedness). I tried them for over a week and it was just terrible. I couldn’t work at all because of the headaches. I went in again and the doctor checked my eyes again and said that the glasses were right but maybe I was just never going to get used to wearing bifocals. So they made me new glasses that were just for the computer and told me to use my old ones to drive. Of course they didn’t offer any refunds of any kind even though I had to pay a crazy amount for the glasses. Well, the new ones still don’t work. I can barely look at the computer without getting massive headaches. I got these glasses months ago and every time I try to use them(I keep trying because wow did I end up spending a fortune there) it hurts so bad. How is it possible that these glasses that were supposed to make looking at computers easier, create such eye pain and headaches every single time I try to use them. I honestly did not want to write a bad review about this because I just thought all Optometrists had the same policies and behavior towards customers. I obviously was wrong since I have found places that will refund you if the glasses don’t work for you. When a customer wants a refund, or new glasses is not because they are trying to screw their business but it is because they genuinely need glasses that work for them to survive in the world. I can’t believe that in less than a year I need to go and try to buy new glasses again because I got screwed over so badly. The extra money I had to spend at this place plus the little amount the insurance covered per year is gone and now someway somehow I have to come up with the money to buy new glasses thanks to this place.

What a great selection of eyeglasses! The Dr was very friendly and great with my kids. He was fast but thorough with my exam and explained what he was doing. They have new technology and the staff was so genuine… Also was able to explain my insurance to me. Highly recommend for you and all your family members and friends! I will definitely be going back!
