Stopped in for a drink and snack before an event downtown. Nice happy hour… great kale salad. Service was good as well.

My wife and I came into Angell’s last night for their awesome Valentine’s Day 4 course dinner! And let me tell you it was fantastic! 1st course champagne & strawberries, 2nd course we had the Lobster Bisque and table side flaming Greek Cheese, both amazing. 3rd course we had stellar Halibut Cheeks and New Zealand rack of lamb. Both were cooked perfectly. The Halibut cheeks was probably the best meal I’ve ever had. The lamb was also great. And the 4th course was an awesome table side Banana Foster. Great stuff. The service was spot on and extremely friendly!!! Great job Angell’s. This restaurant has definitely turned everything around and is now a stop spot in downtown Boise.

Stopped in last night after work for some drinks. Had a nice time. Service was spot on and didn’t waste any time filling my glass when it was close to being empty, I appreciate that. I know I will be back, I always enjoy myself at Angell’s even if i’m by myself.

My husband and I went for Thanksgiving; we had reservations. The place itself is really nice and well laid out. I like how there are individual dining areas. We arrived early and were greeted quickly. The hostess went to get us a table and we went to the table. The chairs didn’t match the rest of venue and the table was really small. I suspect a table made for the Thanksgiving rush. My husband almost knocked the table over trying to sit down(he is 6 ft.) We went back to the hostess and asked for a different table; she stated that she just tried to seat us quickly and would find us another table. I have been a server and I noticed that there were probably a half dozen empty tables, 3 – 4 empty booths. Ok you don’t want to sit us there. More people came in and we were sat a few minutes later. I just got the feeling that the hostess would have rather we didn’t dine here. The waiter was quick and took care of us. Onto the food: the cream of asparagus soup was very good, bread rolls were just ok, the turkey was ok, the salmon was dry, the ham was dry, the mashed potatoes were good, the sweet potatoes were good and the shining star was the green bean casserole. They were cooked al dente and seasoned well; not a ton of soup or drowning in sauce. The mashed potatoes were seasoned well but had way to much butter. The sweet potatoes were cooked well but the bourbon sauce was MIA. The ‘homemade’ cranberry sauce was better than the can. My mother makes homemade cranberry sauce and her bar is set way to high. I did not try the chocolate fountain because I like dark chocolate not milk; my preference not a slight on them. I love the venue itself but I am not sure we will come back.

The bar menu is has a nice variety. I settled for the lamb lollipops and baked brie. Neither disappointed! I also got to try the potatoe skins. These were more like twice baked wedges. Because of the size, the accompaniments were lacking.

Well, we wanted to love the place but tonight, first Thursday, we couldn’t even get a drink, let alone dinner. Come on guys, this place should be the top of the chain in downtown Boise. We walked out without service and when my date forgot her purse, she returned to collect it and was still never acknowledged. We won’t be back, there are too many great choices where my money is better spent.

My friends and I come to the happy hour quite frequently. Happy hour lasts until 7 and the glasses and pours are just right. Our bartender, Dean, was an absolute treat! Our appetizers were superb! We got the mushroom bruschetta and the baked Brie. AMAZING. We love supporting a locally owned and operated establishment. Have been for dinner once, and were not disappointed

This was my first visit here. I came here after purchasing a deal from boise deal saver. I came here expecting a classy meal wouldn’t you at $ 30 plus dollars per plate? The outdoor patio is very nice! That’s where this review goes south. I ordered a steak with herb mashed potatoes and risoto. I ordered the steak medium; it came with a brandy glaze. The steak was supposed to have a peppercorn dry rub. All I tasted was the overpowering flavor of brandy. The steak itself was raw in most parts. The potatoes the only flavor came from the pepper shaker on the table. They were very bland no flavor at all. Now the risotto was very good. Lastly the service was a little lacking seems like they weren’t ready for the dinner rush. I didn’t even get asked if I wanted desert. The color commentary between kitchen and staff isn’t necessary not what I expect from a 4⁄5 star steak restaurant. I get it communication and humor are needed in a restaurant but not so the customers can hear like comments made about my order just not appropriate. I wasn’t very happy with my first visit; I am all about supporting a local steakhouse but it’s gotta have flavor and excellent professional customer service to match! I know it’s not local but check out Ruth Chris down the street as a model professional in every aspect, prompt service, and quality food you don’t mind paying higher prices for the food. Hope you guys can turn it around excellent outdoor seating and you could be a dining destination for Boise folks. Sadly i won’t be back after this visit.

We order 2 drinks(1 each), 1 appetizer and a salad. We came in for dessert as well, but after an hour and a half, that was all we managed to get. Service was lackluster and took almost 20 minutes just to get water and a menu. The crazy part was their online menu, menu at the table and apparently where you sit will determine your price. When we asked why our salad was priced more than on the menu(while pointing at the menu that was still at our table), we were told that it had been rung up as an inside salad. When pressed on this, she said there is a different price for inside. Life is too short. Thanks anyway.

Use to love this place, the outside patio is so beautiful and the remodel is lovely too, but we had dinner last night and it was horrible. I ordered the Renato Steak with Cognac and my partner ordered the salmon(the only fish they offer). Both dishes came out over done and my steak was so chewy and fat. We sent them both back. My partner’s came out better, but still lacked flavor. I order my steak medium rare and the next one out is rare as can be and still chewy and fatty. I sent it back as well and ordered what I thought was the medallions of pork. Instead I got two pieces of pork that tasted like leather! I didn’t eat my meal, but there was no offer to take it off. We did get a couple free drinks, but I left hungry and sad.

I think I just had a bad experience(s). I really want to love this place but the cards have never been stacked in my favor. Service has always been slow and poor, especially recently when we made it half way through our appetizers without silverware or napkins when we finally received them. We had asked and they were delivered about 20 minutes later.(of which someone from our group went to grab some about 15 minutes into waiting.) I honestly don’t want to explain all the things that went wrong but after about 3 hours we finally received our check and we were able to leave. Let’s just say we had planned on about an hour for happy hour not a long drawn out 3. To end on a positive note, I will try this place one more time because it has the potential to be great and I enjoy their food and drinks.

Another tough night at Angell’s. Keep trying this place because we love the location and the atmosphere but they sure need to start paying attention to the quality of the food they serve. The Escargot had sand in them and were under-cooked and fishy tasting, yuck! The steak that I ordered was OK, but just barely. The veggies were overcooked and had an unpleasant taste. My friend had the seafood pasta and it was less than OK. My son had spaghetti and it was good according to him, but that is hard to mess up isn’t it? Fantastic service and fun music and loved the atmosphere, but $ 150 for a dinner that I could barely eat just doesn’t cut it.

Food was lacking and pricy. The kitchen was very, very slow. No gluten free pasta or bread. Great atmosphere! Music was good.

We loved dinner! Jeff was a fabulous waiter! Thanks for taking great care of us! You rocked! Sorry happy hour is just in the outside seating area, not even under the gazebo. Should be everywhere! Thanks Jeff for your special attention!

I had dinner with another lady. Dinner salad was crisp. My ribeye was delicious. My date had the salmon filet. Atlantic salmon, most likely farm raised. Well, as we were finishing our meal, it seemed as if we were keeping them open. I left a nice gratuity for the excellent service from our waitress, Caitlin. The night manager was ok, but, we still felt hurried. We don’t go out for dinner, on a regular basis, but, when we do, I spare no expense. I felt we got the bum’s rush. I’m pretty sure I’ll rush to another establishment. And, in retrospect, because of my date, it was the last great evening, I’ll ever have. In the lyrics of Annie Lennox, «No more I love you’.»

Sad to see this wonderful long-standing restaurant is going … going … almost gone! I’ve gone to this great place for over thirty years … and no more … never again. Sad. A friend and I went for dinner on a Saturday night. Not one sole was in the bar! The bartender waited on us, along with pouring our drinks, along with seating anyone who came in. The patio had a few people. Firstly, they didn’t have a 2 – 3 vodka’s I drink, then they said they just ran out of the gin my friend drinks … that’s a good sign when something is going bad. At one point, what I’m pretty sure was the owner came in and sat at the bar counting money, and not helping his staff with customers. He was oblivious. Yet another sign when the owner is not tuned in. The menu has changed, and is disappointing. The staple, delicious Chicken Cantonese Salad is no long on the menu … there weren’t ANY special salads! Weird, right?! My partners dinner was unexciting, but he ate half of it. We won’t go back, obviously, but it’s just too bad. I remember when Angell’s was the place to go!

Used to love coming here. Came the first time in a few years last weekend. Unfortunately, I think they may have run out of seasonings that night. Service was acceptable, atmosphere was fine– niether were fantastic. The food though. Nothing was seasoned. I had chicken– it was bland and very dry. Didn’t have any desire to finish it. My wife had pasta. It was cooked properly, but no flavor at all. We had calamari and I would venture to guess that it was probably just a frozen bag of squid that they through in the fryer. Rubbery, flavorless. Too bad, the location is great and the place has history here in Boise.

There was so much wrong with this restaurant. It was worst than I could have imagined. We had an old apathetic bar tender. He was rude. it was the worst customer service that I have received in Boise to this day. The food was not better than a frozen TGI Friday’s appetizer. It really is not worth the money or time. I wish I could give it zero stars. It’s sad to see a Boise restaurant legend treated like such filth.

Have eaten here once since the chef came over from Le Coq Rouge. Sat on the patio, delightful live music and outstanding service from our French waiter, also over from Le Coq Rouge. For Boise residents it’s a dream come true — the food and service of Le Coq Rouge without driving to a strip mall in the middle of nowhere, and the ambiance of Angell’s. Food is expensive but ample portions and worth every penny if you appreciate fine dining. A couple suggestions for the owners in case they are reading — rename it to Le Coq Rouge or something close to get the word out about your chef, frankly Angell’s has the reputation of being dated. Also, the live music, while excellent, was a tiny bit too loud.

BOISE: Just had a business dinner on the elegant patio at Angells. As I understand it, this restaurant was closed for awhile and recently reopened. It came back with a bang! The ambience is formal yet welcoming and the waitstaff is friendly. FOOD Chili Tiger Shrimp Starter(4 Stars): These little shrimps were really good. Would order again. Filet Oscar(5 stars/$ 34): This filet was plated more beautifully than most I have seen. The filet floated above a halo of potato purée, surrounded by absolutely deliciously sautéed vegetable spears. The crab was delectable. It was a work of art; please try it. People at our table ordered the prawn pasta and the Cantonese salad and everyone loved their food. DESSERT Cheesecake(4 star): Awesome thick crust, berry drizzle, delicious. Lemon Crème Brûlée(4 star): This was wonderful as well and unexpected in flavor. Banana Bread Pudding(3 stars): It was good, but not as special as the other two
