I went to Mr Seymour in the early 2000s, after having completed my own taxes the previous 25 years. Due to illness which forced my wife to leave her job, an adoption, some other complexities, and other life crises, we had not even filed taxes for three years. Mr. Seymour(Allen) was like a gift from heaven, a true hero. He was completely non-judgemental, while providing a candid assessment of our situation, and how to fix it.(For starters, he suggested I open mail from the IRS, something I was unable to do because of sheer anxiety. We arranged for the IRS to send correspondence to him.) He made me feel enormously better by relating a couple of stories of past clients who had problems that made mine trivial to the point of being laughable. Still, he provided just a hint of, what I might call, «tough love,» to motivate me to acquire and bring in appropriate documents. He basically said, we can fix this, without much pain(expense) but you have to file soon, very soon. I brought him a very large box of poorly organized documents that covered at least three tax years, each as yet not filed. Three days later he called and presented me with the completed taxes. I owed about $ 1,200, for one year, which was somewhat more because of penalties.(I had earlier received a, «Demand for Payment, from the IRS, for $ 39,000, so this was an outcome far better than I had imagined possible.) More good news: I had refunds coming from the State that dropped the net amount owed below $ 500. His fee, for both State and Federal, for all three years, was $ 550. I had attempted to receive estimates from other accountants. Only H & R Block would provide a number. They said, «possibly as little as $ 750, but from what you’ve described, it is likely to be between $ 1,000 and $ 1,500, or more.» Yet Mr. Seymour, an extraordinarily competent Certified Public Accountant, charged $ 550. Further, for no charge, he reviewed the last two years I had filed myself and suggested that any mistakes were in the IRS’ favor. Thus no new filing was warranted. Allen now does the taxes for at least three friends. One was about to mail those completed by another CPA, along with a $ 3,100 check. I urged him to go to Allen before putting that checkin the mail. He did so and received an $ 800 refund. I should note that his taxes were much more complex than mine(investment property, depreciation, and so on) and Allen’s fee was, as I recall, about $ 500 for just the one year, which, according to my friend was almost exactly the same as his other CPA That extra $ 500 saved him $ 3,900. I recommend Allen Seymour, CPA, without reservation.
